I am also going to say outloud that human nature doesn't work like that. You don't have a single incident in 2021/22, and then not say or do anything like this for 4-5 years, and then all of the sudden you are acting like this as the scouting worlds biggest event in 2026. It's a curve that accelerates over time until they are perfectly fine saying stuff like this in public, because they have no fear of consequences. That doesn't happen overnight. You build up to that little by little. It starts at a whisper in private, and works up to not caring who is around, and that takes time. I 100% believe this was a worlds worst secret kind of thing in the front office, because nothing else makes sense. You don't go from 100 to 0 to 100. Granted, I am sure there will be an effort to make sure no one speaks of this again, so we probably never get the current people on the record, but I can almost promise you that human nature dictates that the Sox knew about this happening on a regular basis, whether we ever learn the truth about it or not.

Like was stated by the OP the Sox have to get at least 1 against the Guardians. If they are swept they will not only be 2nd in the AL Central they will be more than likely at least a game back of Toronto for the final WC spot unless they are swept at home by Detroit in their next 3. Toronto, Texas, and Baltimore are all still alive for the final WC spot and Toronto plays Baltimore 3 more and Texas 3 more. At this point the Sox just have to win. It's a 13 game season. They still need no help from anyone as long as they win. Worst case if they are swept by the Guardians they probably have to go 10-3 to have any chance at the WC.

Yeah, that's basically the price Jordan Hicks's current contract and, as you said, it'll certainly be lower than $44M in another 3 or 4 years. If not zero, then maybe $20M or so. The Rate Field debt is very likely a non-issue. If the city/state wanted to condition any infrastructure package with having the Sox pay down that debt, I can't imagine that would be a deal breaker.

I had NOT seen the Sox have an option year on the stadium for 2030. That's new to me at least. Also the updated figure of $44.1 million left on the bonds seems pretty small, and I doubt it ends up being an obstruction. They don't list the amortization schedule for it, but between them still having 3 (well really 4) years to still pay on it, I am guessing that it will be either gone, or close enough to gone to not matter, by the time that the new stadium rolls around.

It goes to the quantitative analytics of 2026. Is it better to play for one run, or is it better to play for the big inning? The numbers seem to say it is the big inning, and so far the Ryan Fuller philosophy with the hitters seems to go this way. It's kind of the same thing with going for it on 4th down in the NFL. The odds of expected scoring go up when you go for it more often, but the public glare of failure puts a lot of pressure on teams to go the less productive ways. Thinking of Ben Johnson gifting Carolina a TD on Sunday by going for it on 4th and 1 inside his own 25, statistically the expected scores outcome no doubt was higher if he went for it. But the actual results may vary.

There are absolutely ways this CAN fall apart, but judging by the agencies and cooperation between the directly affected parties, the odds are pretty good that this happens. What form will it take by the time we get there is probably the biggest question, but with Ishbia cooperating with Amtrak and the like, I am not sure what could stop it, except maybe a Worldcom/Enron type financial meltdown.

Problem is I don't even know what "showing up" looks like with this unit. It's just bad. Sweat is a "good" player but nothing more. The rest of the D-Line is below average. The linebackers are OK but in 2026 that unit isn't really that important anyway. Jaylon looked like a LB playing CB yesterday. Stevenson got burned a bunch. Thought Thieneman looked really good, but that's not going to be enough. I think this is going to be a situation (at least I hope) where in 3 years, we're going to look at the defensive depth chart from Week 1 this year and see new names at every position outside of Thieneman, and say "Can you believe this is what they were rolling out there?" But, as bad as the defense looked, the offense looked just as good. They could do some special things this year, but I fear this could also just be a maddening season, and there are going to be games they put up 40 and lose.

It's hard to be optimistic at this point from what we have seen lately. BUT this team has a flair for the dramatic. I do think you have to put your hottest hitters in the line-up for the whole series (Yes, I'm talking about Grichuk). The demise of Mune is baffling and just doesn't make sense. If the baseball gods owe us anything I would wish for Mune to get hot the last 13 games of the season. Here's to hope..............

I agree on the teams of the past not having guys as big, fast and athletic as the modern day player but somehow the game just isn’t as good and as you said it is what it is. No one is forcing me to watch but I still love the White Sox.

It's the state of Illinois. All hands will be out to receive something.
