In Peralta’s last 4 games he has: 5.1 IP / 7 ER 4.1 IP / 2 ER 4.2 IP / 1 ER 4 IP / 5 ER If we are looking to UPGRADE our rotation with pitchers that can give us length and keep us in games… I really do not understand why anyone would want this to be one of our new guys. I wouldn’t give up even Wolkow’s jock strap for him. What indication do we have that we’re going to get the Peralta of the past? PASS.

The Sox, at 21-15, currently have the second best record in one-run games in the AL and fourth best in all of MLB. The Sox 21 one-run wins is the most in the majors.

Not at all, trying to be realistic, win a game then go from there...avoid longer losing streaks, stay in what is still (for now) a four team race. Especially with (again for now) the way the pitching assignments line up this weekend. Win...a...game.

Hopefully two competent starting pitchers. They can survive with the mediocre catching if they absolutely have to but you have to have the pitching down the stretch.

Now this is a take that I just don’t and will never get. Colson’s line over a year is something we should be salivating over. He’s streaky and he is young. Not a finished product. The only intention of this thread was to suggest a move down one spot in the lineup while he works on evolving one approach to his offensive game. We shouldn’t deal in extremes but who am I kidding…. Colson has been instructed to always get his “A” swing off and your recommendation is the solution… but ONLY during situational spots that have been weighing us down offensively. RISP with less than two outs. We need the entire team to really focus on situational swings from here on out for that scenario. Games in August and September leading into the playoffs really mean a ton for our Sox. If they start to shine in a stat that has been a black eye so far, we’ll be much more likely to squeak out more close games. It also will be good practice for post season play and help them all take the next step up maturity wise. Hope we see Colson moved down to the 5 hole while he works on this because his strikeouts really have been too much of a boon at the cleanup spot. Ok, that’s enough redundant trade deadline wasting time talk from me.

That's my thing. He's been a pro catcher for all of about 4 months. He's caught about 82 college games, and 4 summer league games. I'm loathe to trade him, also. But he's just barely a catcher. LF/DH? Sure.

They got swept by the Rays earlier this year and I don't think that was fair so we will probably win this series.

One problem for Wolkow is an emerging industry view that the skills he is weakest at — contact and swing decisions — are the ones that are hardest to teach. The flip side is that teams increasingly believe that they can squeeze more power out of most players, especially if they have a strong foundation of making good swing decisions. Then you look at Wolkow who has god-tier power but he can't get to it in games because he has to sacrifice everything in order to keep his K rate below 40%. He's a fun target for a team trying to get something for a player who isn't going to have much value. But I just don't see how he could be a major part of a deal for anything besides a depressed-value rental or low-end reliever type. Some important context for interpreting Winston-Salem statistics this year, by the way: there is an offensive explosion in that league this year. Has to be juiced baseballs or something. League average OPS has jumped from .663 to .767. The league hit 1049 homers last season; this season, there have been 1426 already with over a month to go. This happened to a lesser extent in Kannapolis's low-A league and Birmingham's AA league as well, more like 60 to 80 points of OPS for them. So the table stakes are the back-of-the-baseball-card stats should be up for everybody year over year (note: no change in offense in AAA, which happens to use MLB baseballs).

I mean I get the prospect hugging that happens during a deadline, but can we not act like he is the next coming of a sure thing? Even if his bat is for real, we have no idea if he can be a catcher or not.

Some of the crowds down through the years at Sox park have been embarrassingly small in April and May mainly because of some of the frigid days. I’m sort of anti dome but if I knew attendance would increase dramatically in April and May because of a dome I would be all for it, I’m sure Ishbia could afford the extra bucks.
