  1. Past hour
  2. They’ve done it with Bonemer and Fauske the last two years. Bonemer is a top 50 prospect in the sport. It’s how you get those guys. I just don’t look at the draft as slot amounts per round. I see it as, they have a certain total amount to spend and trying to get as much talent for that money as possible.
  3. The Oort cloud, sometimes called the Öpik–Oort cloud, is theorized to be a cloud of billions of icy planetesimals surrounding the Sun at distances ranging from 2,000 to 200,000 AU. Its existence was proposed in 1950 by the Dutch astronomer Jan Oort, in whose honor the idea was later named.
  4. Might be worth a waiver claim… “Astros designated RHP Kaleb Ort for assignment.”
  5. Today
  6. I just said I’d add another lefty outfielder on a cheap one year deal and suggested Verdugo.
  7. I’m all for the signing too, but let’s not treat it more than it is. Minor league lottery ticket at a position of weakness. He’s got to show he is not 30% worse of a hitter than Dominic Fletcher before I start considering him for the majors.
  8. That would likely require a battle in the CBA, and the players would probably not allow it.
  9. MLB needs to do something to get their offseason going, some sort of incentive to signing free agents in the 1st week of FA, with lesser incentives as every week goes by and install a deadline for the players to sign by. I remember tuning into the winter meetings being so excited but has just been a big letdown for awhile now. MLB needs to do something to get the fans tuned in for the offseason.
  10. Yesterday
  11. The only overslot picked in first10 rounds since 2020 to reach the majors are Burke and Cannon, 2 college pitchers. In 2023, they decided to go underslot early instead of mid-rounds and ended up with Keener and Gonzalez from picks 3 and 1. The one they played straight? Grant Taylor pick #2. Hopefully Oppr and Wolkow end up like early round picks.
  12. He’ll probably play a month or two in Charlotte and get released, and we will never hear from him again. But I really don’t mind the signing, just expecting zero.
  13. Good let them talk. "You are looking live" at the Hammond Bears. 😉 The politicians have made it pretty clear until the Bears pay off the renovation debt from 2002 they aren't getting any cooperation. Let them go to Indiana, they'll still be the Chicago Bears.
  14. I read where the Bears are meeting with the Indiana officials next Tuesday. ( January 6) It will be interesting to see if there is any movement on a new Bears stadium.
  15. They haven’t really been “punting” but in order to go overslot without comp picks, the money has to come from somewhere. It doesn’t really but teams like having agreements in place so that they know how much they can spend throughout rest of draft.
  16. Kelenic stinks. I doubt the Sox are guaranteeing him anything, and if they are they're stupid. Don't mind taking the shot to see if they can "fix" him to be a positive contributor but I expect he'll either be in AAA or released to go play overseas by the start of the season.
  17. Sox choose cheapness over that BS no matter what they say.
  18. Should move him to the pen, switch him to a 4 seam/cutter pitcher (should be hitting 97 with 92/93 on the cutter out of the bullpen) and have him kill righties. He's always been a good bit better against righties than lefties.
  19. How about this for a thought. Typically the best path to being an effective major league starter, is to start games as much as possible. Are there exceptions? Sure. Are most starters brought to the majors as starters? Also yes.
  20. Especially after a couple of years of "character matter" propaganda.
  21. You just hit the nail on the head for a lot of people tired of perpetual rebuilding.
  22. How about Vasil in rotation? Of course taylor too, although I guess Bannister & Co. have injury concerns (so I've read). Maybe try Cannon in pen?
