  2. yup. my thoughts as well
  3. The 2020 White Sox, the "green shoots" version of that core, were 3rd in MLB in home runs. But again, I'm not down on this team at all -- I love the core and think it has a good chance to stick. And unlike the last flameout core we have a healthier wave of prospects on their way to fill whatever holes are created by injury, regression, the cheapness of an owner who might not be anxious to give Japanese Judge a record-destroying contract, etc. But those holes can open up quick, and I think we mentally lock guys into decade-long starting spots at our peril. (Not really, since what we as fans think and expect doesn't have any real-world stakes, but you know what I mean.) It's why it's so important to draft well, stockpile prospects, and not make rash moves for flashes-in-the-pan.
  4. Beautiful reread. Miss some of these posters.
  5. I think Vargas, beyond his play on the field, has been a huge addition. He's a leader, everyone seems to love him, and his attitude is contagious. He and Mune have really seemed to hit it off. Add that to his team MVP play, and he's one of the best acquisitions in a long time.
  6. Will go down as one of the great trades in White Sox history. And we got Fedde back and he has been a contributor this year. IMO, Vargas has been the first half AL MVP.
  7. The real change was waking Jerry up. For the first time in his life, he is willing to spend on something outside of the major league roster. There are all kinds of stories out there about other people in the org hinting that they wanted to do more, and acting like they were doing more, which ended up being complete lies sold to us by a compliant local media, including even Getz himself talking about how much freedom he had to do anything he wanted. Hopefully this continues.
  8. I was suspended at the 2024 deadline, so I wasn't able to comment. That being said, my views were that Vargas was a great acquisition, Fedde was smoke and mirrors, and Kopech was a head case who wouldn't amount to much beyond that season. I felt we needed to have patience for Perez and Albertus. Hate to say I told you so...
  9. In order to sign #11 at over slot, you have to know two things: first that 1-10 will sign because if one doesn't that pool of money is lost. Secondly you need to know what the $ value is so that you can offer #11 (and hopefully more picks 12-19) a firm amount. The implication being that 1-10 are done deals as well.
  10. Getting rid of both Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn was the important first step in the process. The organization had fallen flat on its face under their leadership, which was made worse by them being in conflict with each other. That was a total shitshow.
  11. Today
  12. Still think we should have gotten Cesar Prito included.
  13. I agree. Not sure if it was Getz, Ishbia, or someone else, but something has seemingly snapped them into doing things that are relevant to the decade they are actually in, and it's very refreshing.
  14. If you like reading people whine and talk trash about things they're wrong about. Which I do.
  15. Good to lock this one up
  16. Obviously all of my opinions ruled but it’s fun to read just to again be impressed that Getz actually did the impossible thing I didn’t think he could do in this thread - he improved our player development and scouting decisions. Everyone’s opinions are understandable when you remember the learned helplessness we were in where we knew we had to get a player already good because they would only get worse on our team. no zealot like a convert - and I’ve never been more of a believer in a gm than I am or Getz right now.
  17. I'm not sure there were many who liked this trade when it happened. The reaction got worse and worse as Vargas struggled on a VERY bad Sox team. The clip of him sitting in the corner of the dugout with a look of absolute despair mimicked what we were feeling. Now that clip is used in the "how it started...how it's going" videos. Talk about an incredible turnaround. Turned out to be a pretty good trade.
  18. Enjoyed reading the little house books with my son and the great biography prairie fires on Laura Ingalls Wilder, a great companion to the natural and political disasters surrounding them. Anyway I say that because boy do I hate the new Netflix series. Absolutely bizarre tone, not sure who this show is for at all. Disappointing waste of what seems like a new interest in the books.
  19. What a great thread. Props to anyone who wants to chime in and call themselves out here.
  20. bmags, I think Casteel, Yeager, and Bergman are all RHP.
  21. I agree. But there are at least two reasons to make an in season, deadline trade. The short term, let's try to win this year and the long term let's add prospects. Buyers at the deadline tend to be looking for short term, win now, and are willing to give up prospects. Sellers are generally looking to off load short term contracts and pick up prospects. This season I would rather not pick up players with one or two years left on their contracts in exchange for players that are still developing. That's what mid and bottom tier franchises go for. Trying to win a division or make the playoffs is nice, but truly having a chance at a "multiple championship window" is what top organizations look for.
  22. Keith Law reporting Kyle Casteel to sign for 1.25 million. 1.1 to count against the pool.
