I can smell it.

It didn't change the winner but "The Catch" was a pretty cool result of a defensive sub.

Currently mostly unused. But it exists for a reason. It was in use not that long ago. We aren't talking decades either.

We really just need to take one of those games in Cleveland and get the tie breaker. Just don't get swept

Our Magic number has gone down 4 days in a row....I'll take that.

Bridgeport is not gentrifying. Yes there are million dollar single family homes now, but there has't been a vast transformation over the past 20 years like we have seen in the South or West Loop.

It's been so similar when I've looked at them the past couple of months that I thought they were the same. But they're not 100% the same, weird.

Fangraphs went from 70.4% division to 76.3% division after Cle loss today. Playoffs at 89.5%.

They don't but at this point with like 18 games left they've pretty much merged on the math. They use different projection systems. I don't know where ESPN gets their data for their WAR or for their projections but it's not FG.

I think ESPN uses FanGraphs for their playoff odds.

Think the highest we had was last week at 9 over at 90.2 on ESPN and 90% on FG. So losing those 3-4 in Houston didn't hurt us much. Really we should have swept the Twins with any situational hitting or pitching in game 2 of that series but water under bridge now. I think 85 wins will take division. We basically just need to play .500 and not s%*# the bed in the Tribe series.

He's just dancing around a simple question with more word salad bull crap. It's not worth arguing with him. We didn't think the sox would be this good this year so we're upset . Yada yada bs.

It went up to 89% just now. I think there was a bug because they gave Cleveland a .562 win% the rest of the year and just corrected it to .532.

Didn't Hill literally win us a game this year as a defensive replacement? He hit a pinch hit go ahead homer and made 2 big plays in the 9th in RF to get us the win against the Royals. https://soxmachine.com/2026/05/white-sox-6-royals-5-a-hill-to-die-for This ended up being one of Venable's best managerial moves all year.

Because it's just one of those things baseball teams have always done. I ask again, how often does a defensive upgrade in the OF actually impact the game? Can you think of a single instance where the team would have lost instead of winning if not for the replacement? Because I cant.

ESPN has our Sox' chance of post season at 87.9% I'm sure they give our Sox very low odds to win their first ever World Series though.

It's admittedly super annoying that the Tigers kept up their habit of not holding leads (over 25% of their losses are games where they blew the lead in the 7th or later, 20+ games) and not winning away games against the division (3-19 on the season) but our Sox can benefit from those things too in a couple weeks. Meanwhile, the Guards are .500 since August 1 (including both Detroit's anti-clutch bullpen and that exceptionally soft patch vs. the Rockies/Angels) which has netted them no ground in the standings. So like you said, just take care of business. 37 games left between theirs and ours, 16 going the right way gets the job done. Win the tiebreaker and hopefully the series next week and it removes a lot of the sweat factor.
