  1. Past hour

  2. Today is why starting pitching gets even more important down the stretch. That the Sox don't have five guys they can rely on to work in the last five weeks says a lot. As far as the hitting, especially since the break, 'the big three' has had their issues overall. Another important series starts Monday, four games in Houston. Would love to see a split.

Dude would pull something opening a beer
  4. Also looks like the Sox need to send just a few more scouts to Curacao. Jurdrick Profar ... not so good.
  5. I would be more interested in August, as it seems that's when he really fell off...
  6. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/shielja02.shtml Total Sox bWAR -0.3 Well Tatis Jr. and Sosa were cheaters anyway so those two trades don't count and Chicago baseball history can just be rewound/rewritten And ofc Hahn's kid Jacob (Rice Univ) is now working as an intern in analytics (baseball ops analyst) for the Cubs of all teams. Looks like it turned into a permanent gig.
  7. He would become the guy that pulls a hammy and never shows up or communicates with the team again
  8. It is an awful comparison. The Sox acquired Vargas because they weren’t vying for a playoff spot, Vargas had multiple years of control remaining, and they had time to try to fix him. Castillo was acquired to improve the rotation right now in a playoff run, as well as improve it for next season, because he’s gone after next season. He doesn’t have much time to figure it out. And thus far, he has been awful through 5 starts with 1 good start. There is no guarantee that the Sox are in this same position next season, so Castillo’s starts right now are even more vital to the team since next year is not guaranteed. It isn’t a good comparison of trades at all.
  9. no way I even consider extending him until next year, not unless he takes a massive discount which I doubt his agent would do that nor should he
  10. Ladies and gentlemen, this has to be the first defense of the Shields trade in history with the benefit of hindsight. Good lord…
  11. Colson hasn't been so great in the L7/15/30 at all, minus the occasional HR: Mune hasn't been any better:
  12. Watching the Astros Mets game and I have a question...what the hell does it mean when they get on base and the player sticks out his hand and with the other wiggles his fingers towards their team's dugout?
  13. And James Shields pulled it back to become a serviceable innings-eater. "The dog ate my homework" is an excuse. "He stopped throwing his change-up and keeps changing arm angles" is a reason.
  14. Loved the newest spiderman. I have a hard time getting myself to watch odyssey, even though Nolan has been in my top 3 filmmaker list for over 20 years, since seeing Memento in theaters. One movie that everyone needs to see is GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE.
  15. They also turn the double play if Hicks doesn't take forever to throw the ball to Colson. Then when he did, it was in a bad spot. Not making excuses for Colson, but they both share some blame on that play.

Can I claim him and have a local beer league softball team play the rest of his salary to cover the entire outfield and hit cleanup for the rest of our season???
  17. I happened to watch a recap of the ALCS and World Series last year. Dominguez was in for 2 blow ups. Shoulda known that he sucked then, but I somehow forgot about them even though I watched pretty much every game during the ALCS and WS.
  18. Wonder if SD would go for LRJ to reinforce their OF depth?
  19. On the radio feed, DJ put that on Hicks not getting it out of his glove and disrupting the flow of the play. But I was listening and not watching so do not have my own opinion. And yes, that was a big play which could have led to Hicks going another inning and with a closer game things might have been different.
  20. It's not a poor comparison. The Vargas trade wasn't "bad", then it became "good" when Vargas started hitting. We all knew what the point of that trade was. Post-hype player, work with him to regain his prospect. To say Vargas stunk during 2025 is ludicrous. He put up 1.9 bWAR in his first full MLB season. That's an average major league player. But you're doing just what I'm talking about, pretending a trade was bad because what everybody planned on happened. Is there a contest I don't know about where people who are the fastest to declare a trade bad win something? Because I can't think of another reason why people scream about Getz messing up, not knowing talent, and all that garbage, then dig in and declare they were right all along, even as the object of their wrath is hitting home runs in the All Star game.

    Groovy!!!
  22. Braden at least gives you good ABs even though he's struggling lately, Colson swings at terrible pitches and watches pitches right down the middle too often but Mune is just scuffling big time right now. If I were Getz, I would definitely hold off on that extension.
  23. Thorpe no longer listed as tonight's starter for Charlotte, so maybe you still see him this trip @hi8is
  24. Hicks had a clean inning if Colson turns the DP. Gilbert is only up as a fill in for Schweitzer going on the paternity list (congrats to him), probably doesn't even see the end of this road trip.
  25. I must say I was surprised to turn on the radio and have Len say his name.....for a quick moment I thought "Oh good, is he on the Twins now?"
