After weeks of saying 60,000 deaths would be a great job, Trump has revised that number to 100,000, and they blocked Dr. Fauci from testifying to Congress. Trump is a genius but you can’t see his grades. Trump is the healthiest President ever, but you can’t see his medical records. Trump is a billionaire but you can’t see his taxes. Trump is innocent but you can’t subpoena the witnesses. The pandemic is totally under control but you can’t talk to Dr. Fauci.3 points

They just became mandatory in IL yesterday. When I went to the grocery store today 15 of the first 20 people I saw outside had no masks. Jewel now requires them to get in the grocery store. There were a couple of people that took them off once they were in a but only a couple. It was the safest I felt there in weeks. I did hear security talking as I was leaving. Some guy got in by holding his shirt over his mouth and nose and then dropped it once he was in. They did escort him out. I still don’t understand why people can’t put a mask on. They just must not give a fuck.2 points

This thread is like so many of my classes in college. Caulfield is the professor and Greg is the high guy making random comments that make just enough sense that you try to figure out if he's serious.2 points

How is it that your hair grows like a Chia pet while you manage to simultaneously talk in 3rd person like Bob Dole...Kansas’ most famous senator. You might want to forward that information on to follicle-challenged Trump. And reassure him there have been zero incidences of contracting the virus due to having Beatles’ or Beatnik hair, at least not yet.2 points

They absolutely aren't required here. This week's shopping trip was the first time I'd say more than 1/2 of the people in the store were wearing masks, previously it's been less than half.1 point

In Illinois, people are supposed to be wearing masks in public places, including the grocery stores. Not everyone is doing it and people sure as hell ignore social distancing guidelines when shopping or passing other people. Also, I don’t care for meetings and can’t stand video conferences!1 point

Greg - I'm the opposite; I think I spend 6-8 hours a day on the phone (technically skype or goto, etc). It is driving me absolutely mad. I hate talking on the phone or in the case of most of my day presenting via video conferencing, etc. That said, all that phone interaction is not the same as face to face, so I have actually gotten to know my neighbors pretty well as a result of this crisis. Pretty easy for us to sit in our garage / driveway and chat with neighbors over on the other side sitting in their driveway. My introverted ways usually make me just say hi & bye to the neighbors vs. have actual conversations (usually by the end of the day / end of the week I'm sick of all the time I've spent interacting with everyone at work - I spend most of my day in and/or leading meetings or being the guy who is trying to push things forward more aggressively) so I'm mentally spent and ready just to chillax with the familia.1 point

I am still waiting for Greg to morph into Ranchoddas 'Rancho' Shyamaldas Chanchad from 3 Idiots, one of my all-time favorite movies. Having lived a decade in Kansas City, it’s easier to “get” him. We all have a little Devil’s Advocate side lurking within us...the frustrating part is I’m not sure if he is unwilling to do the research on a subject sometimes, or he simply delights in playing the board jester just to get a rise out of everyone. He called the Democratic governor of his own state conservative the other day, yet she’s not one of those governors quick to insert herself into the news cycle, and is moving to reopen restaurants soon...you can’t be too far to the left to win in a state like Kansas with almost as many religious conservatives outside Johnson County and Lawrence as you’d find in Iowa. And for some reason I don’t see Greg as a big drinker (his South Side of Chicago Catholic side)...and, it’s going to beer if he does, not hard alcohol. He’s too attuned to inflated major league concession prices and aligning himself with the plight of the common man, which means my guess is Coors. He always posts late at night in the US, so he could be a 2nd shift worker...but every once in a while pride in the higher education of his family members breaks through that blue collar persona.1 point

If there offense is good - They are a top 6 team in the NFL; If there offense is okay - They are a top 15 team in the NFL. If their offense played like last year - They are probably a top 20 team. Only way I see them in the bottom 10 is if they have significant injuries to their defense.1 point

Okay this post convinced me. Greg actually lives in Russia and he's trying to influence the lock-down. He thought he was on Facebook but got confused because he's been on a quarantine induced vodka bender.1 point

It's grocery stores, drug stores. There are so many people who aren't social distancing or wearing masks.1 point

Depends on the business but you make a VERY VERY great point. This will of course happen. Greg likes to be optimistic at all times but I believe MANY people in the work environment making decisions are evil.1 point

Just one of us is in Kansas, baby ... that's greg and he's the guy you can spot with the long hair.1 point

I know this is first world problem stuff, but in the likely event that my fiancee and I have to postpone our wedding, I really hope our venue and vendors just let us reschedule vs. eating the roughly $8k in deposits we've already paid.1 point

Haven't been on this board in a while. But decided to check in as a temperature check. Like getting a balanced perspective from different groups of people - co workers, friends, small town friends, finance friends, etc. Reduced down - people are starting to get real antsy. We're in the "are we there yet?" phase. This is a cross country trip from Chicago to LA and we're in Kansas. There's about to be a blown tire, an engine blowout and many more issues along the way. By all accounts - buckle up.1 point

I do have perspective. I realize we have lost more in other wars. Although we haven't stopped losing during this crisis. Over the years, major American institutions have had their credibility problems. The media, the FBI, the CIA, Congress and other organizations. But while they had their failures, they have served the country well in other cases. While running for president, Trump assailed all these institutions as totally worthless. Fake news. Believing Putin over his own intelligence community, and claiming the FBI as totally corrupt. He fed into the paranoids and convinced others we could have faith in almost nothing except him. Now when we are facing a real crisis, some don't believe it. They say its fake. Meanwhile, they don't act in a safe manner and they can infect themselves and others. I think that is serious. I come from the Vietnam generation. The effects of that tragic war hung over the country for decades and still does. Hopefully, we will be able to get this crisis under control soon. But the effects will last for a long time. It is not just a matter of statistics, important as they are. I am not ignoring history. During the Sixties, two places burned. Vietnam and American cities. I strongly remember those images as smoke billowed in the sky. When this crisis is over, it will not be over. That is my perspective.1 point

It can be, sure. Think of society using shame to keep LGBT in the closet, and the damage that does. I'm not making a universal statement on whether shame is good or bad, but it can be effective in shaping external behaviors (vs internal behaviors like say fat shaming someone into losing weight). Shame (and guilt) has always shaped behaviors in different cultures and always will. I'm not sure how it's "lazy" or what you mean by that, though. Edit: keep in mind here that the context is Greg whining about his long hair giving him headaches (??)1 point

To me Donald is all about shortcuts, not brilliance. It's easy to campaign by stoking people's fears about minorities taking over. Donald was born on 3B and made his way back to 2B. He routinely gives three different versions of events and seems to get away with it. Presently he wants to claim he was on top of CV early but that China somehow deceived us. That sigh of relief from his cult is for the black guy being gone.1 point

In South Korea they opened churches with assigned seating. Maybe they try same as yours. It will allow them to do tracing better afterwards if someone gets sick.1 point

Kansas governor scared silly of corona in a state without a ton of problems issues some lame reopenings starting Monday. She announced bare minimum type stuff tonight in her powerhungry way. No hair salons or barber shops will open for a long long time to come. Greg is gonna have to do something. Wish I had somebody i could trust without corona to chop my hair. I know I ain't got corona at this time. Am scared to have somebody cut it. Don't wanna get corona. Thanks, Guv. And yes I've written the guv a third time and some Republican politicians to express my support for a pair of barbers i know here who literally need cash NOW to feed their families. Oh well, I'll try to stop whining about my personal minor problems. They will open church for services with social distancing. I didn't read how many people will be allowed in on Saturday/Sunday Masses. I have a sneaky feeling my church (a bit conservative) won't be opening up despite being allowed to. p.s. This will be "funny" if our conservative Guv. decides to prohibit grade school, high school and college classes this fall if at the same time the NCAA has a plan for football. Shutting down class first semester means no Kansas football or basketball even if the NCAA decides to have seasons. The rule is no sports are allowed on state schools campuses if the campuses are closed to students. Our guv tonight said life may never be the same. Sounds like a guv who will not be allowing classes to be held for a long long time.1 point
