  1. This story sounds like bullshit. The year Luis Robert got to 6 home runs in A+ was in 2019. During that year, it took him a mere 13 games to get to 6 home runs. He was promoted from A+ after 19 games while posting a ridiculous .920 slugging percentage. Who would doubt the power potential of a guy with that robust slugging percentage and home run rate? The repeated use of "kid" and "little" is cringeworthy. Your buddy sounds jealous tbh.

  2. It'll never happen. A system like that just doesn't work either. The teams would tank down the stretch because some years getting a top five pick is better than making the playoffs. Also, a team like Arizona wasn't tanking last year. They were just horrible. They deserve the 2nd pick.

  3. His review was actually quite positive. They mentioned that his swing gets long and possible contact issues, but they like his speed, power, and defense/arm.

  4. Ben Sheets hit zero home runs in his MLB career. I’m guessing his power at age 43 wasn’t too hard to project.

  6. All conjecture. There is no way to prove that would actually come to fruition. They could just as easily line their pockets - only difference is they would be permanently bad.

  7. It wouldn't come close to doing that. What it would do is force those teams to actually spend some of the giant pile of money they make instead of simply lining the owners pockets and then crying poor to anyone who will listen.

  8. Zero reason the 9th best team deserves the #1 overall pick. That system would end up permanently burring teams like the Pirates, Orioles, etc. Baseball needs to adopt similar methods that we see with other leagues. The lottery would be interesting for the top 5 or so picks. Also, allow picks to be traded. This one alone would prevent the need to tank a roster for years. The draft's purpose is to give bad/terrible teams a sense of hope for the future, not reward mediocrity or a "just not quite good enough" effort.

  9. Some times the first year is an adjustment, especially after the kind of layoff he just had. I am hoping that this year things settle down a bit and he can show some things.

  10. I can't believe he still is without a gig. I guess its good for us because the longer he's not in the dugout, the better our chances are to win a World Series.

  11. That's the system I've been talking about. It would be great. Imagine teams playing competitive baseball in september and not this triple a crap they've been pushing on us for the last decade plus.

  12. https://www.africanbites.com/coquito/ Coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and rum The sweetness comes from the Coconut Milk instead of adding sugar to it. Also they typically don't use raw eggs.

  13. The more I read and see about Vera, he really feels like by far the top ceiling in this organization, and he seems to be already pretty high of a floor. We will see if that changes once he gets challenged stateside, but the stuff just seems ace level.

  15. I wouldn't have him there but I understand the argument because he does have big league tools. But at 24 years old you would certainly like to see those tools translate to a better more consistent approach and feel to hit. He's going to be a big leaguer but how much of an impact he makes is still very much in doubt because at his age the bat should be far more advanced.

  16. Maybe this all took place at the first game of 2019 right after he hit the first home run of the first game. Man’s tallied 6 total home runs in his Sox minor league career but before he hit two more home runs in that first game But also do nerds really rely on a counting stat like home runs for power potential? Seems like a baseball nerd would focus on like hip rotation moves per 1000 frames (of which I’m sure Robert is elite anyway ????)

  17. Yep...really hard to keep up with all the fast-breaking news surrounding the settlement talks. Anticipating word of settlement to break at any moment now.

  20. I feel bad for sportswriters right now. There is literally nothing about baseball to write at this time, so this is what we get.

  21. "Better" isn't saying much. He had a flash in the pan April and then absolutely cratered. After April he seemed to prove right all of the reasons he never advanced to the majors in the first place. I don't expect anything at all of substance for the guy. Honestly, I think he is a waiver waiting to happen when the roster needs to free up a slot.

  22. Did you sleep through last season? Leury was incredibly valuable last year. He can play anywhere and while he isn't like a plus offensive player, he isn't a black hole either. He is pretty much perfectly suited for a utility role. Which is what the Sox signed him to be according to all reports. Also the Sox have never really pretended that he wasn't a utility player. He had to play too much last year, but with out him it would have been more Mendick or Hamilton. Or some other type of roster filler guy they had to pick up. Garcia isn't a world beater, but he is a guy that you need on your team.
