Tanner Banks has better numbers. LFG!
-
Sure he is. We had no starting rotation coming into the season. The gamble was to sign Fedde, Flexen and trade for Soroka, and hope one of them could pop and be flipped. Fedde makes the whole experiment a success.

People have repeated the old false conspiracies so much, they're numb to them. They need new canards to enrage them properly. As if the 10 game losing streak wasn't enough.
-
Nope. Younger than league average. And he is a legit pitching prospect. We traded garbage for a rehab dream, a couple lotto tix, and more garbage.
-
And Riley Gowens was a throw-in who has developed into an actual pitching prospect, a bit young for AA.

Crochet wants an extension to pitch in the playoffs

nevermind. answered. -
Robert should have been tapped out between 2nd and 3rd, having a pinch runner finishing his home run trot due to trade.

Well, it is a board for conversation, so I'll shut up about picking nits. I think the Sox knew who they want, and made sure to get them, even to the point of giving in on some negotiation just to solidify their pick. I agree that international scouting kind of sucks right now, and that narrows the margin of error in the draft. I still trust in Shirley and co.

Jonathan Cannon is a big over slot success story. George Wolkow could be.
-
But I've just shown that a small handful of teams I randomly looked at on MLB.com did over slot some college picks from 3-10. It looks like a pretty common practice this year.
-
The Yankees went over slot to college selections at #2 and #6. The Reds went over slot to college picks at #4 and #5. The Braves went over slot to HS kids on #5 and #6, then punted 7-10. The Cards went over slot to college kids at #7-9. Those are just the teams I randomly picked who have reported their signings already. I think the Royals didn't go over slot to any college kids. I'm struggling to figure out what your point is, here.

Looks to me the White Sox had productive drafts in 2022 and 2023. Garrett Crochet is an All-Star who is the best pitcher on the market this TDL. Colson Montgomery and Noah Schultz were zigs when everybody else zagged. I'm good trusting Shirley and his team.

Great pitching breakdown with Brian Bannister
WestEddy replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
James Fegan's interview with Bannister which probably overlaps and covers some other areas. https://soxmachine.com/2024/07/brian-bannister-white-sox-draft/ -

I also don't want him to have to prove he's an offensive threat in a line up of young kids who are going to go 2-29 to start their careers. -
I get tired of my Twitter feed full of blog articles about "4 Sox players sure to move this week". "BREAKING!!! Brewers interested in acquiring pitching".

Nice James Fegan interview with Brian Bannister, discussing the draft and other stuff. https://soxmachine.com/2024/07/brian-bannister-white-sox-draft/

The White Sox spent their whole allotment. I believe the issue is the Sox going over slot for some players, and punting on a couple of rounds to pay for it.
-
I don't know why people aren't seeing this as a supply and demand issue. It's a weak draft. Less players at the higher levels. Therefore, more negotiation to get the guys they want. In a stronger draft, some toolsy high school kid who needs work gets sassy, you move on to the next toolsy high school kid. That doesn't really play this year.

In theory. Once Crochet's off the board, it's still supply and demand. The Sox don't like the offers for Fedde to this point. They'll either get better or stay the same. Beyond Skubal and Crochet, there's no real "aces" on the market, I believe. -

Fedde and Crochet are probably clouding up each other's markets. Teams see Fedde as a fallback from Crochet, won't get serious about Fedde until Crochet's off the market. -
And to be complete and comparative, Low-A has a minimum salary of $26.2k.
-
Just a quick Google search tells me that while a player in a complex league makes a minimum of $4800/yr, the Chicago Dogs pay a salary range of $52k-$96k for a season. I don't know what level of play they are, but that's quite a jump. I'm intrigued by a player like Matt Hogan, who finally hit consistently at Oral Roberts in 2023, looks like he went undrafted, played a year with the indy Pioneer League Rocky Mountain Vibes (Glassdoor says they have the same salary structure as the Dogs), and now, this year, after signing with the White Sox, jumped to age-appropriate Birmingham, and is OPSing .774.

I read once that every system has a guy another team wants. Somebody who they were going to take in the 7th round, and that team grabbed him 3 picks ahead. Even when the Sox were a bottom 5 system, they still had Montas and Bassit lurking in the teens. Semien was seen by some as an eventual utility infielder. So Houston probably has talent that can be developed, somebody just needs to trade for it and develop it.
-
They really don't offer any names. 1. White Sox trade Garrett Crochet to Orioles 3. White Sox trade Luis Robert Jr. to Phillies 4. White Sox trade Erick Fedde to Astros
