Every single White Sox Twitter account has been posting pix of little anime cartoon girls shedding a tear over Tim Elko not being on the White Sox for a month, now. Every podcast has been swooning over his AAA stats. Promoting Elko would get some fan coverage on social media and the podcasts, and cause as much excitement as could be fostered during a 110 loss season. Nobody is predicting an MVP season once he gets here. Back in the days before sports talk radio, Joe Wallis or Scot Thompson would generate excitement among the Cubs' fanbase, just from their minor league cache.

And I would think that if the Sox had any online awareness, they'd understand the jolt Elko would put into a vocal part of the fanbase. They should have announced Elko yesterday, and gave everybody a day to buy tickets to the next 3 games.

They might even have the one guy in the Sox' organization who remembers Meyers throw out the first pitch.

Getz is being accused of playing service time games with Meidroth, Elko, Teel, and others, as they work on their game. Nobody here would argue that Madrigal and Vaughn weren't "rushed". The director of development doesn't decide who gets promoted to the bigs. Getz has also alluded to the dysfunctional siloing of scouting and development so that development would get players with no real idea of what the scouts were looking at. He has worked to open up communication between those areas.

I would guess that in 2019, there was an EasternEdward here who was advocating for keeping Madrigal in the minors to "work on his game", while he was roundly mocked for buying into the company line so they could gain another year of control. Perhaps I could trick Caulfield into making your own point so that you immediately need to disavow it.

KW/Haber/Hahn were calling the shots in those drafts. Hostetler also wasn't a great scouting director. Shirley seems to have recovered from FO panic picks, and still fleshed out good 2-20 drafts.

The whole point is to roster prospects they think they can work with. Canario is a guy who needs a lot of work. It's fair that a lot of organizations looked at him and decided he was either a waste of a roster spot, or his problems weren't in the wheel house of what they can work with. They have years to work with a guy like George Wolkow, or even Workman. The whole point of prospects is to get multiple players in multiple levels, and maybe one will be ready. Am I "excited" about Fletcher, Julks, DeLoach, Mitchell and Colas? No. But Fletcher looks like he can replace Palacios and play better defense. That's all you're looking for, right now, not a guy who's going to turn into A-Rod. And they are working with C. Montgomery. That's why you keep drafting guys like Bonemer and trading for William Bergollas.

And as far as Vaughn's supposed "leadership" qualities, Elko's a big time Christian, and team leader going way back. Pure character guy. I'm all for a straight swap. I'd cut Palacios and Dalbec. Select Fletcher, Elko. Option Vaughn. I guess that leaves another 26 man slot open. Hello, Greg Jones!

Apparently, there isn't. Pittsburgh doesn't seem to have fixed Canario after a month. And the problem is, if they make it to the end of the season with him and still see something to fix, they have to do it all over at the major league level next year, too. If the Sox see anything in Jones, they can do it at AAA. If they see anything in Workman, they just need to stow him for 5 more months, then they have about 7-8 years of control with 3 options. Hell, Workman probably hits better than Amaya right now, and might play the same level of defense, which is above average.

Elko is a much better defensive 1B, and has a robust hit tool. He's also worked to whittle down his strikeouts, whereas Vaughn is starting to feel like he's ... dare I say it ... uncoachable?
