i think the Twins will pick up a starter or two that overperform. Nova definitely being a prime candidate for that. Or maybe Alex Wood. They just have a knack for getting way too much out of mediocre players. BUT...they will not win more than 92 games at the very most this season, and probably are more in the 87-90 range.
-
They will try everything they can to dump Price first. If they can't find takers, then maybe they explore JDM. If they want Betts long term though they probably have to trade Price and JDM.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option

Not sure if posted yet... But really nice breakdown. https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/dallas-keuchel-yasmani-grandal-join-forces.html -

The more I think about Grandals framing and Keuchels pitching style, the more I think a 3.25ish ERA is really possible. I wanted Strasburg (way too expensive) or Wheeler ( bridezilla), but this move is really solid to be competitive. They won't win a world series with Keuchel as their #2, but if Giolito is a top ten pitcher and Kopech or Cease hit their ceilings, 2021 has quite a good rotation -

Didn't lose a pick or prospects...and saved a lot of cash over wheeler. I'll make a bet that the next two seasons that Keuchel has better numbers than wheeler. After that his arm is gonna fall off, but this is solid and much better than price for slightly cheaper money. -
super expensive platoon. He is owed 15 mil next season 8 mil the following and a 2 million buyout...so he is really 25 mil for 2 years and that is just too much money imo.

Front loading Ryu would make a ton of sense. Pay him well for the first two seasons...decent for the 3rd with some incentives ...And make the 4th season a very low AAV with big incentives. That way his injury history is mitigated and you have our #2 locked in.

If Yoan stays healthy and plays nearly every game and improves...is a 7 WAR season out of the question?
-
This also is an absolute sell high moment for TA, which is why I hope the Sox would get more value out of him than 2 seasons on a return...
-
I don't think this happens...but add lindor and Ryu and you have a pretty nice window to win starting NOW. That lineup would be the best in AL only to maybe the Yankees and Astros...and maybe even better in 1 season. My worry is who they would have to give up outside of TA.

Really solid signing. With Kopech and Dunning and Stievers all potentially in the pipeline ...for the second starter this is a under the radar move that all should support. His numbers last year were good and quite honestly he got over shadowed in Washington because their great rotation. Happy with some progress.

I've seen him live a decent bit in Atlanta. You know who he reminds me of...Gavin Floyd. The frustrating version. Has the talent, but just can't get through lineups consistently without mental mistakes.
-
Did Ryu enjoy success with Grandal? That to me would make the sox slightly appealing if all money is equal. Ryu at 3/70 and Gio at 3mil could be interesting
-
Really? Why? Pre Injury he was looking like it all was coming together. Many pitchers come back Post TJ and are even better than their previous self. I myself thinks he lands at the high end of the #2 spectrum and has a nice 4-6 year run before he flames out.

Engel absolutely will be the platoon partner. He will also still spell Eloy in the 8th/9th defensively. This allows Leury to be the super utility for the team.
-
All the moreso for Sox to start going ham on FA starters. Indians are done and Twins haven't gotten anyone either. Window is NOW!!

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
EloyJenkins replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A diamond in the rough deal goes a LONG way toward building a contender. You get 3-4 of them and you win 102 games like the Twins last year. Engel to me is the real important part. IF he continues raking against lefties, that platoon will be 3+ WAR between the 2 of them. I wish Mazara had OBP to go with power, but buried in the 7 or 8 hole should be okay I guess. No more LOOGY's really is going to make a big deal for innings 6-9 going forward, and I am interested to see how Nomar reacts to a change of scenery. -
He was injured a decent amount. Healthy he would easily cover 3/60
-
As is 2021 will be division winners and contenders assuming kopech and cease get better. 2020 hinges on at least 1 B tier starter...or 2. That remains to be seen.

So traderumors just posted a story about Red Sox getting under luxury tax. They don't want to attach prospects to Price but said.. "They are, however, willing to pay down Price’s contract to get it closer to $20MM per year rather than the current $32MM". What is consensus for Price at 3/60. Imo that is solid value, helps hit the window and shouldn't cost too much at all prospect wise. I would honestly take that over Keuchel and the rotation starts looking a lot better.
-
So we just need to find the Ken that only needs a 8 mil per year contract...

Really great post Greg. I will call BS on this line.. unless Madrigal is on shoeless joe level. The league average for rookies BA is .248, but I expect him more around 290-300 which would be incredible -
Blu Jays are such a weird team. I can't ever understand what they are doing. I'd rather if Sox are interested they bid at last minute and avoid another Wheeler egg face moment. Seems to me Heyman is just using Jays right now for Boras.

and any team that plans to compete should EXPECT 35-50% payroll to be through FA overpays. Just the cost of doing business these days.
