  1. I wonder if us new season ticket holders will be able to score any tickets. Timing is a b**** sometimes...now I'm a freaking bandwagon fan who looks like they bought tix because they won the WS, when in reality I was planning on buying them this year regardless because it's the first year i can realistically afford to. Yes I'm whining
  2. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) How about the intercception? Kyle didn't turn the ball over... I seriously hope this is a joke.......some of Orton's passes the last few weeks have been so inaccurate both the Bear WR and the defensive player had no chance to catch the ball. Kyle Orton has one of the most loyal fanclubs that I have ever seen...It is amazing how many people are in his corner when his production has been close to zero.
  3. Yea! Awesome post Kyyle. I definitely understood your point of view. Winning is the most important thing and the Bears did win with Orton behind center. But after the last 4-5 weeks of diminishing offensive statistics it became more and more obvious that a change could do nothing but improve this team. My big reason for wanting to see Grossman is the simple fact that we were getting NOTHING out of our passing game. I honestly don't know how good Grossman is, but he can't be any worse than a QB with a 60 rating. Good to see the change was made, and I now feel we have a legitimate chance of doing some serious damage in the playoffs.
  4. Dude, its not that hard to attach a W-2 to your tax return and add up the sum of your two w-2's. Most likely your being over withheld anyway and it is to your benefit to include it on your return.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) Illinois goes to 11-0 with an ugly 61-42 win over winless Coppin State. Coming up Wednesday is the Braggin Rights game with Missouri in St. Louis. Be fun to watch Quinny Poo squirm on the sidelines during that game. A 19 point victory over a team who plays that ridiculous slow down style offense and sit in a relaxed zone on defense is basically a blow out. Coppin State's coach, Fang Mitchell is not one used to being blown out. So he has decided to go with this kinda game in order to give his team a chance. So they have actually LOOKED more competitive in their past two games. A 57-47 loss to OK and yesterday's Illini game. Overall, another win for the Illini. Big game Wednesday over the hapless Mizzou Tigers who won a tight one against Furman on Sunday
  6. Well now we finally have a chance to make noice in the playoffs. You Bears fan enjoy watching a real QB? I can't believe how many people still wanted Orton playing...it feels good to be right. But more importantly GO BEARS! Lovie Smith is my hero for bringing in Grossman enen though we were winning at the time. Ballsy move that turned out great...I am more pumped about Bears football than ever.
  7. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) They get paid to play, to win the Super Bowl. They have NO absolute reason to risk injury or anything now. They need to do whatever gets them in the best position to win in the Super Bowl. That is the exact kind of thinking that may result in them not winning the super bowl. I dont know if there is anything worse than coasting into the playoffs playing backups just thinking you can turn it back on in the playoffs. No offense to Peyton Manning who is one of the best regular season QB's in the history of the NFL but he is yet to succeed in the playoffs. They better get their s*** straight or one of those other very solid AFC teams will beat Indy.
  8. QUOTE(danman31 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Anybody else think Derrick Rose is way overrated? Big game and he has stomach flu, what a load of crap. Rose is not that good, U of I shouldn't want him. I've seen enough of Rose to know he is a spectacular player. His hype is a little more than it should be, but I still see him as a top 3 point guard prospect for 2007. His athleticism and ballhandling is ridiculous. He needs to improve his shot and could actually become a better player if he became a little more selfish. The talent is there and he is THAT good. U of I should want him...you put a player with his skills next to EJ Gordon and Jamar Smith and you have a near unstoppable combination when working with Weber's motion offense.
  9. Maybe they should have prepared for playing the Chargers instead of holding press conferences about if Dungy will be resting his players or not. As soon as this became an issue you knew they would lose. Now we get to see Nick Buonocoti and the rest of that Dolphins team celebrate with champange on ESPN...Oh joy
  10. Went to see the Circle City Classic yesterday...Thought I would provide a few highlights. Simeon vs. North Central Derrick Rose wasn't himself as he was playing with a stomach flu. So the great matchup between him and Gordon didnt really materialize. Gordon is as good as advertised. He has a lightning quick release and is much more athletic than he looks. Back to back steals by Gordon which both resulted in one handed tomahawk dunks pretty much brought the house down. On the second dunk he basically jumped over and around the Simeon defender. He finished with 32 points. Despite the fact that Rose had a poor game 2-11 from the floor and nine turnovers, Simeon had a chance to win but missed a wide open 12 footer right before the buzzer sounded. Final was 68-66 or something like that. Overall, both teams are really good and I still am hoping for a Rose-Gordon 2007 Illini backcourt. Proviso East - Lawrence North Yeah so Greg Oden is pretty good. By my count he had six dunks in the first half. Brian Carlwell was no match for him on either end of the court and pretty much was dominated. I was amazed by how good the entire Lawrence North team was. Conley didnt have a great game but you can see how good of a 'pure' point guard he is. But the main reason Conley was held down was the sensational play by Jacob Pullen, Junior guard for Proviso East. He played phenominal and you will be hearing a lot about him in the next year and a half. He would be a great backup plan for the Illini if they can't land Derrick Rose. He's a great shooter and very quick with the ball. Pullen finished with 26 and Oden and 32 and 17. Carwell had 8 points, 9 boards. He looked a little 'gimpy' out there and times and it almost looked like he was favoring his back out there. Final score North 72- Proviso 59. Sidenotes: Bruce Weber was in the house to watch his future Illini Carlwell and Gordon. He was also there to see 2008 point guard Korey Lucious from Milwaukee King, Derrick Rose and Jacob Pullen. I also spotted a number of other recruits from various schools. In addition Chris Webber was there to see the action. Awesome event, and they already promised a Simeon-North Central rematch for next years tourney.
  11. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) You know what this column is? It's not only an insult to most baseball fans, but it's just a symptom of laziness. Jayson Stark can't come up with any real material and he decides to rifle through some e-mail and make fun of people. What a jackass. What about normal readers being baseball columnists? Do you think I would write as much false or misleading information in about potential trades, or be wrong so often? Do you think I would pimp Red Sox prospects like Peter Gammons when they aren't worth a quart of piss? Hello, Freddy Sanchez! Not only that, but there have been TWO trades in the last 2 weeks that I thought were more ridiculous than the Santana/Pujols idea (FWIW - Pujols 2-year VORP is 202.3, Santana's is 171.8), such as the Soriano trade and, like it or not, the Vazquez trade. So I don't rate fans that much worse than, say, Jim Bowden. I don't know if I can think of any trade that would be as ridiculous as Pujols for Santana.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) Good grief we have some weird fans.. ^^^^ Present company INCLUDED ^^^^
  13. Easiest way to answer this thread. Lets say hypothetically that Blalock and Crede have the same exact stats. Identical in every way. Blalock's value is higher because of his Lefthanded bat. It's not even close, anytime you can get LH power from the 3B spot it is a huge advantage over most teams in the league.
  14. Awesome News Steff! Great to hear some positive news, and it seems things are going in the right direction. If everything turns out ok, I don't think anyone could ask for a better Christmas present than that!
  15. Who cares, we traded away El Duque and Vizcaino, like I would listen anymore anyways.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) Sheesh, word travels quickly around the UofI campus, ehh? Hmm...I'm totally asking my Oak Forest sources about this
  17. I'm a little late to respond.... But it's LJ and the Cadillac. Not even close. Disclaimer: My fantasy team is 4-10 But the record does not tell the true story
  18. This might be the first thread I've read entirely through since we won the World Series. The comedic quality of this thread cannot be replicated! This is what happens when a team wins a World Series for the first time in 88 years. We don't know how to act...keep the team together, sob, whine, stomp your foot in angst. You sound like a 3 year old who just was told they are not stopping at KB Toys. GMAFB We have the most aggressive, proactive, gambling, low risk-high reward, forward thinking GM in the game and your whining about losing Marte, Blum, Rowand, and VIZCAINO. Ok let me take a step back and think about this again...nope still hilarious. OK, Carry On... I'm hoping for another 50-100 posts by the morning so I have more reading material at work tomorrow. Enjoy the Championship, and look forward to next year, where by my modest calculations, we have a GREAT chance of finding ourselves in a similar position. Players come and go, but your rooting for the WHITE SOX. If you want to follow Blum back to the Padres, Jizzcan to the Dbacks and Rowand to the Phils be my guest...
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) Don't freak out now. We already have proven we can beat 2 of the top 5-6 NFC teams. No one in the NFC scares me except Seattle. We lost to a tough AFC team, one we will not face in the playoffs. I'm completely calm. We have done well in the NFC. But if we go on the road against Carolina (who looked terrible today), Seattle or even Minnesota at this point, I don't see us winning. We have to have some semblance of an offense to have a chance, I just don't see it right now. I'm hoping they prove me wrong.
  20. Personally, I think they both suck... Lesser of two evils and choose your poison come to mind when choosing between the mediocre rookie QB and the oft-injured sexy rexy. I just ask everyone why does it matter so much who is in the game? When you have the worst QB rating in the NFL who cares who is behind center...its a simple equation.
  21. Hope you all enjoyed watching that game today, because that is exactly what is going to happen to the beloved Bears when the playoffs roll around. A team with no offense has no chance to change a game with their defense. You can point to the Ravens all you want but they at least could control the ball offensively. Meanwhile, our inept offense goes three and out repeatedly and holds the ball for about 25 minutes a game. Our defense gets let hung out to dry every game by our offense and the one time they struggle we jump all over them. Guess that is what "Bear Football" is all about. :rolly :headshake
  22. Nope...only your tuition costs will be deductible.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 06:10 AM) I really can't think of anything appropriate to say here other than ... Steff, you know that you and your family are still in the thoughts and prayers of a Soxtalk multitude. Exactly
  24. 6.45 seconds Is that good? Probably not Edit: 5.822 I think thats as good as I'm gonna do...
