  1. Took my dumb brain a second to process that the Sox did not in fact trade Chuck Garfien to the angels.
  2. Just under. I expect the offense and bullpen to be a little better, but the starting pitching to be much worse.
  3. They have indeed acquired Andrew Benintendi.
  4. Sure, but “we’ll believe it when we see it” and “everything they do is bound to fail” are two completely different sentiments. Every single Sox fan should be saying “I’ll believe it when I see it.” That’s the exact skepticism that’s warranted with this dumb ass organization. But assuming everything they do will fail is not even skepticism, that’s just nihilism, which, why even bother at that point.
  5. Gotta do Schultz first. I don’t make the rules.
  6. This NY Post article is a nightmare on mobile so click at your own peril, but per Heyman: “The Yankees failed to land star left-hander Garrett Crochet because they wouldn’t part with both Jasson Dominguez and George Lombard Jr. The Mets also failed to land Crochet because they wouldn’t surrender the tandem of Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams.”
  7. As a baseball fan, that’s a really fun trade.
  8. So what’s next? Veteran SP? Kinda funny that they can probably promise whoever they’re courting the opening day nod.
  9. JFC they're BOTH responsible. Why do we talk like this?
  10. Good for Jake, going to a (theoretically) competitive team.
  11. I feel you, Will. I wouldn’t want to think about RF either.
  12. To be fair, I don’t think the gripe has been about the $, but more about roster construction, playing time, etc.
  13. If that was an actual quote and not something you just made up, then yes, we should definitely be pointing and laughing.
  14. Grady Sizemore > Shane Waldron
  15. I don’t know. I find them interesting to watch in a train wreck sort of way. The sox were unwatchable because they played a very boring brand of bad baseball.
  16. One of these days, maybe a mega superstar in their prime who can single handedly make your team more successful will become available.
  17. Completely disagree. If that’s what it takes to sign a first ballot hall of famer in his prime then that’s what you do.
  18. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s awesome how guys like Acuna, Soto, Carroll, Merrill, etc became stars almost instantly. But man, that has completely warped our expectations and timelines of all other prospects.
  19. Definitely thought Jeff Bolker was another minor league signing before clicking into the thread.
  20. I always get a kick out of when the “playing a kids game” line is dropped. We acknowledge that it’s a business, while doing our own roster and payroll breakdowns. We buy expensive clothing with players names on the back. We get upset at players when they don’t meet our expectations. We take it all very seriously. But when it’s convenient to the argument, we simply minimize it to a silly children’s game.
  21. Right. It will figure itself out one way or another. Most likely in a “whose terrible glove do we not want out in the field today” sort of way.
  22. There’s so much strategy involved on the pitching side with pitch counts, off days, etc that I don’t really see bringing in a reliever as much of an advantage. On the contrary, for a golden batter/pinch hitter, you don’t have to factor anything else in other than “let’s send our best guy out there to hit.” And it’s not like they’ll be coming into the game cold like a traditional pinch hitter does.
  23. I would guess some sort of rotation that includes Vargas, Vaughn and Benintendi.
  24. Two points even
  25. Look, if you really want to showcase the game’s superstars more, another way to do it is to just eliminate those boring, good-for-nothing non superstars. Anyone that has an OPS under 700 falls through a trap door into a snake pit the next time they take the field. Baseball is evolving, folks. Get on the bus or get run over. (Oh yeah, there will also be a bus driving around on the field during play.)
