  1. Pedro / Tony / Getz Decision Tree: White Sox Organizational Philosophy on who should field a baseball Correct Answer: The player with more MLB service time, regardless of the circumstance. Tie breaker: If service time is the same, the tie goes to whichever player looks more like David Eckstein.
  2. I created a game thread for both games before seeing this one for the Mariners, so I edited my OG thread to just capture the home game against the Kansas City Royals. Jake Woodford pitched a scoreless two innings before being replaced by Tanner Banks,
  3. Luis Robert singled in the first but was stranded by Mike Moustakas. Nelson Valzquez singled in the top half of the 2nd but was stranded. Gavin Sheets walked and stole second to lead off the bottom of the seconding, but was left stranded after Dominic Fletcher struck out, Martin Maldonado grounded out and Braden Shewmake struck out swinging.
  4. Let's Win Two Today! White Sox up 1-0 early at Seattle after Nicky Lopez doubled and was driven in by an Eloy single. Jared Shuster squares up against Bryce Miller for Seattle. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/white-sox-vs-mariners/2024/02/29/748170/live The home game remains scoreless after one inning, with jake Woodford facing Jordan Lyles. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/royals-vs-white-sox/2024/02/29/748172/live Note - I created and posted this, while the OG Seattle game thread was created a few minutes early. I'm not certain how this site treats split squad game threads, so I just pulled out the Seattle game in the title and we can use this for the Kansas City game.
  5. Terry Boers was the last decent host on the station. Most corporate media is a waste, and there to sell adds to the few thousand who tune in. I really don't think they carry any sway beyond existing as a windsock. I would like both Montreal to get a team and the Sox to agree to an equitable agreement to remain either at 35th and Shields or somewhere within the City, including this 78 parcel. Montreal is the only MLB city which lost a team which still does not have one, with Oakland being a future possibility. The 1994 cancelled season and Jeff Loria were the primary reasons Montreal lost the Expos, which never should have happened. Quebecois!
  6. I was talking about him with friends yesterday he would be a good pickup by the Sox. The Cubs non tendered him after the season. Boston has interest in him, the only article I could find about his current status via search. https://www.si.com/mlb/cubs/news/boston-red-sox-interest-codi-heuer-former-chicago-cubs-reliever-matt9
  7. I trust them more than media, FO and Manager proclamations / eyeball tests. There is a wider difference between systems for defensive metrics vs. hitting or pitching. Proprietary systems clubs use internally are ahead of what fans can access. All that said, mid level defense would be an improvement over last year, and that’s likely where they land.
  8. Does not compute. FanGraphs 2024 Fielding Projections: (Cumulative Team Fielding Rating) 34.9 Cleveland 27.9 Texas 23.0 New York A. 9. This. Literally $800 million was spent by the IHSA since 2009, and several hundred million, perhaps over a billion (they only post financial records since 2009) for Comiskey Park II, including hundreds of millions in interest, the initial $150M, and at least $100M spent to fix the upper deck Jerry demanded in 1988, the bar scam across the street McCuddy's was denied after Gov. Thompson promised they would be allowed to operate. The new proposed stadium will likely top $10 billion when you include all stadium and infrastructure costs, the inevitable demands for upgrades over 30-40 years, and the several billion in bond interest, perhaps much more in a rising interest environment vs. the much lower rates paid over the past 30 years. None of the above includes the 50% + city/state sales tax the Sox haven't paid over the decades because they fall under 1.9M interested in Jerry's horseshit teams, nor the $400M he wants to pocket in IL sales tax, or the $0.00 in property tax he has or will pay over 75 years past/present/future,
  10. Wonder if the Sox will finally finish over .500 as an organization during Getz' tenure. 2005 was the last full season the Chicago White Sox and their net affiliates both finished over .500. 2010 was the last season the organization played minor league games and finished net over .500 as an organization. 11. 17 year old catching prospect Ethan Salas knocked in an insurance run after two reached and a bad 2B pick off attempt moved the runners over. Ramos, Popeye and Elko go down 1-2-3 against Estrada, and the Sox are nada today.
  12. Eighteen months ago some Sox fan sold their soul to the devil for left handed hitters. In typical Twilight Zone / Jon Lovitz SNL Devil fashion, it was a Faustian bargain as they are now deluged with left handed outfielders, though time will tell if any can ultimately produce for the Sox.
  13. Colas with good patience drew a walk followed by a line drive single by Mendick before Ortega flew out trip the OF and Carlos Perez was frozen on a called third strike. One more frame left to avoid a 1-5 start to the Cactus League.
  14. I’ve never been interested in what Pedro has to say, but would like to hear from people who matter like Getz or Bannister. Some here want an Ozzie saying everyone sucks, but that is an anomaly in the game, and part of the reason he’s sat with Garfein for a decade or so instead of in a MLB dugout.
  15. These daily straw man posts are laughable. The vast majority of folks opposed to this, be it Sox fans like myself, or the 90% + of the state who don’t give a rats ass about The MLB or White Sox, don’t care whether the stadium and team is controlled by Jerry, Michael, Old Man Potter, George Bailey, Mellody Hobson or Jesus H. Christ. What the vast majority of us care about is the future of our city and state. Our families are planning on living here far longer than Jerry or the MLB are even a thing. If there is any “deal” to be had, it is accomplished thoughtfully and equitably. What we fear, oppose and are trying to stop before it’s too late are the myriad of bad decisions driven by Jerry and politicians last time being replicated once again. Many of these bad choices were demanded by Jerry, and ultimately harmful to his “Chicacago” White Sox. A thoughtful infrastructure plan with significant organizational stadium funding could gain wide support. This “I demand everything including all future tax revenue and will only pay for development we plan on keeping or my son will sell to someone who will leave” is complete and utter bullshit. It’s has no broad support beyond desperate Sox fans who think this money will flow to the on field team (few if any dollars will). Also don’t give a rats ass about the feelings of White Flight suburbanites when it comes to attending White Sox games. The two most noted acts of criminal violence at Comiskey Park II, the fat flab gun shooter and criminal Ligue family, neither sentenced to even a second in jail, were criminals who slithered in from the suburbs. There is less crime in Bridgeport than there is in Wrigleyville or 2024 Downtown. Pearl clutching suburbanites are as safe or safer driving to and from 35th and Shields than they will be trying to trek down to Clark and Roosevelt.
  16. Ohtani gets $2M in cash each of the ten years of his contract, before getting $68M deferred payments after he flees California once the contract is over. It works to $47M in present value, assuming current interest rates. And he just went yard.
  17. I'm on board for most of this. No, Thompson is far beneath Mena in terms of pedigree and performance through last season. I just don't see .377 BABIP as being anything close to being sustainable at the MLB level, same with the near .400 BABIP posted in lower levels. Hopefully he develop to be what Adam Engel was when he was healthy, not as good a fielder but hopefully a better hitter. I'm not asking for much this year. Just let the borderline players like Sosa, Colas, Fletcher and Lee if any of them are brought up this year, vs. have them ride the bench as all rookie position players beyond Vaughn have done. Need to be able to flush any of these offseason veterans for either a trade or once a younger player makes them expendable.
  18. Colas started the right direction and snagged a solid over the shoulder catch to end the inning and deny the Dodgers extra bases.
  19. Yes, but since he reached his third year and first arbitration hearing, he is eligible to at minimum an arbitration award every single year from now on. He still has all three option years available per FanGraphs. They stated earlier if they are going the starter route he would likely work a few months to gain workload before being called up. Seems like the most likely scenario if they do attempt to stretch him out.
  20. Gameday: https://www.mlb.com/gameday/white-sox-vs-dodgers/2024/02/27/748199/live Eloy hits the second of back to back doubles to knock in Nicky Lopez. Crochet hitting 100 mph, 1-2-3 bottom of 1st including a strikeout of Ohtani! Lets do this!!!
  21. Minnesota creeps to within $2.9M ($132.2M vs. $129.3M) of the White Sox’ payroll after their net cash outlay for Manuel Margot, who will serve as their reserve OF this season. He will cover all three positions, and can fill in at CF in the event Buxton becomes hurt. Minnesota President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey, a FO position Jerry could never afford, provided a budget of $125M to $140M early in the off-season, which the Twins have now reached. Sox fans still do not know what the budget is for this season. Derek stated the following after this latest trade. Meanwhile, the Dodgers used this open roster space to sign k*** Hernandez, who served as their super utility player 2015-2020, before going to Boston for three seasons for $24M over two contracts. The Dodgers will pay k*** $4M this season, or $1.5M less than what the White Sox will pay Leury Garcia to stay at home, but likely less than what Jerry is paying Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn to also stay at home.
  22. Stone tweeted like for Jason and love this new guy before either broadcast as their full time announcer. How was Jason getting too big for his britches, or in Boyer’s words “respect for Jason or respect for a normal person”, before he started the full time gig as Hawk’s former PT fill in? If Steve had an issue with Jason, it wouldn’t be the first or second time he didn’t like a co-worker. He also didn’t leave the Cubs in good terms, and had an open feud with his Score co-host, though Murphy didn’t get along with anyone there beyond Mike Nort, plus the well documented disdain he held toward Hawk Harrelson. All this to accommodate the 120 or so games Stone deems worthy to show up for each year. Hunky Dory for Boyer for Stone to skip a fourth of every season vs. constantly bitching at Jason for actually performing quality work nationally, which helped what little standing and credibility the White Sox hold in the sports industry.
  23. Why would they insert an incorrect height of 5’ 9” in the article? The Sox and Baseball Reference lists Fletcher at 5’ 6”.
