Being the starting pitcher in the All-Star game is something you earn as the best pitcher in your league. It's a title you get to carry the rest of your life, and who knows if Lynn or Rodon will get another chance.
Moncada is one of only five qualified batters in MLB with an OBP of over .400 at the All-Star Break.
Is he as good as he could be? No.
Is he still an incredibly valuable player? Absolutely.
Is it ridiculous to talk about trading him or moving him off his best position? Most certainly.
Since what the Astros did gave them an advantage hitting at home, this should have been the punishment:
For an entire season, the first batter in every inning of every home game starts with a 0-1 count.
That's not how the draft rules work. If he goes to play his freshman year at IU, he has to wait until the end of his junior year to be drafted again. The Sox don't hold the rights to him indefinitely.
At least some of it. If the Sox weren't getting at least some salary relief, they'd just let him go on waivers rather than trade him. Can't imagine the Sox won't have to eat at least some though.
You go with a starting OF of Vaughn, Robert and Engel, with Goodwin getting spot starts vs RHP in place of either corner guy.
If Frazier is available for a reasonable price, you get him and he can fill that role plus play 2B.
I switched over to the Euro soccer as soon as the game ended. Did anybody watch the postgame show? Would like to know if they interviewed Engel, and if so, where is the video?
