You need someone to get on base in front of Robert-Vaughn-Abreu. The OBP of the options are: Mendick .310 Engel .308 Pollock .246 Harrison .245 Garcia .200 Moncada .175 If you think over whatever period of time TA is out one of these others will do better than Mendick, I wouldn't disagree, but if you look at the numbers right now he's the least bad option.

Mendick is actually 4th on the team in OPS behind TA/Vaughn/Robert. Not expecting that he'd keep up that pace but there's not really a better option right now. Leave Robert/Vaughn/Abreu as 2-3-4.

LaRussa anthem story making national headlines

The gun issue + the Roe v Wade decision might actually keep the Senate from flipping. Oh, and DeSantis is 100% winning the nomination. I doubt Trump even runs. -
OK, apparently the #15 prospect is the worst farm system in baseball is going to be this team's savior. You can all tell me "I told you so" when he has an OPS over 1.000 in this year's postseason.

Cease and Graveman to Restricted List; Crick Up
CentralChamps21 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
"Give a kid a look" isn't something you do if you think you're in contention for the playoffs. Yes, I know this team has already done plenty of other things that you don't do if you think you're in contention for the playoffs, but still this sends a message that the season is over without TA. -

Bringing up a RH hitting middle infielder makes no sense with Mendick, Harrison and Leury all there, and Burger maybe even an option at 2B. The one guy that makes sense is Burr but maybe he's not vaxxed either. -

Robert presumably takes that spot, coming off the COVID list. -
Cease and Graveman to Restricted List; Crick Up
CentralChamps21 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They're not really a man short if you think about it. Cease wasn't going to pitch anyway. They'll have the same number of players available they normally have. You essentially never have more than 22 of your 26 man roster available for any given game with 4 starting pitchers not available for that game. So they'll still have 22 guys available even though the roster has 25 names instead of 26. -

Cease wasn't going to pitch anyway and honestly there really isn't anybody else to call up at this point. -
What the hell? I miss one watching one game to attend a live sporting event with 300,000 close friends and now the season is over?

https://www.si.com/mlb/2022/05/28/pham-slapped-pederson-over-disagreement-involving-fantasy-football-league-per-report So I don't know which is weirder, that fantasy football caused a physical altercation between two baseball players, or that fantasy football caused a physical altercation in May.

CentralChamps21 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they go strictly by geography, we might still avoid that: Northeast: TOR, BOS, NYY, NYM, PHI Southeast: BAL, WAS, ATL, TB, MIA Great Lakes: PIT, CLE, CIN, DET, SOX Midwest: CHC, MIL, MIN, STL, KC West: TEX, HOU, ARI, COL, SEA California: SD, LAD, LAA, SF, OAK -
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23603885/boston-red-sox-designate-hanley-ramirez-assignment-activate-dustin-pedroia Perhaps there was something in the new CBA, but I don't see how that could apply to contracts signed before then.

Also could have called up Martin instead of Banks when Kelly went on the IL.

The best option last night was to not have DK start to begin with.

This team won't take a walk and can't get the ball in the air. Maybe what the banner needs is #35.

I haven't seen one person suggest that Grandal was a bad signing. You appear to be reading criticism of Grandal as criticism of his signing Nowhere near 90% were positive about that trade. He won MVP solely because COVID happened and there were no games in April-May. He has yet to hit well enough in those months to even sniff MVP consideration in a full season. In light of this team having so many other DHs playing out of position, it's easy to make the argument that he shouldn't have been extended, or at least not for 3 years at that price. The calls for Conforto were strongest only after every single other LH outfield bat went off the market. Obviously Conforto was not an option, but Hahn's failure was not acquiring a LH bat in general, and not Conforto specificially. Kelly and Harrison are wasted money at this point, which many people suggested would happen. Leury should never have been offered anything more than 2/7, if that.

Sox vs Sox Rubbermatch and Season Finale- 7:10 CT

Sox won the season series with Boston 4-2 but got outscored 38-23. -
From my viewpoint, the underlying cause of all of the problems is not relying enough on analytics. Management not emphasizing analytics enough when hiring the coaching staff, both at the major and minor league levels. Management not utilizing analytics when making player decisions, both at the major league level and in the draft. The coaching staff not utilizing analytics when coaching the players and making decisions about playing time. Of course, this ultimately falls on the owner. He's the one who hires the President/GM who aren't using analytics enough. If I were to somehow magically inherit the Sox, the first thing I would do is offer every single member of the Tampa front office a 50% salary increase to come take the same position with the Sox.

No, no he won't turn the tide. His last 32 starts, from 5/5/21 through last night (excludes two relief appearances over that time frame): 157.1 IP, 107 ER, 198 H, 66 BB 4.9 IP/start 6.13 ERA 1.68 WHIP It's an insult to the other 25 guys on this roster (and also the fans who buy tickets) to allow him to continue starting. Let him be the mop up guy until Lynn and Kelly are back and the pitcher limit goes back down to 13 on June 20, then DFA him.

Sox better either take the lead this inning or at least keep batting another 10 minutes or else this game is an L.
