  1. It's so frustrating that we are on the brink. Once again, the pressure is on. We play Boston now. They got Texas at home. Logic would suggest they win 2 of 3 and we lose 2 of 3. If that happens, that would not be good.
  2. That's why I think he's destined to be an Angel. Hopefully KW will keep him.
  3. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 05:17 AM) Seriously? Ozzie is killing this team with his bunt/steal decisions and line-up cards. No he is not. We are 13 or 14 over .500 with a so-so team.
  4. Great post caufield. The economy really worries me. I have talked to too many individuals in all facets of the workplace who have had pay cut or frozen and have had to work much more, all in professional jobs. Management is giving out horrible performance reviews in hopes the higher paid individuals quit. This is very un-American. And it is concerning.
  5. I keep thinking he's destined to be an Angel.
  6. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:36 AM) I thought, like Ozzie, that he was an obnoxious party boy who would've had a better career if he worked as hard as he partied. But how can you wish him failure because he can't hit for s***? I hope he does well for himself. Good post. I wish him well as well.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 04:35 AM) Oh my god, I...I...I actually agree with you, on alot of that. I dont agree just a couple s***ty prospects would have gotten him, but some midlevel prospects shouldve been fine. A lot of posters have said in various posts at various times they agree with me. My positions aren't always that radical. It's probably the force and repetition in which I state my case that makes it seem I always differ from others' opinions.
  8. Exactly. I can't believe the Twins blew that 9.5 game lead early and yet are firmly in command again.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) The last name is Hudson. Sporting a 1.85 ERA in his last 6 starts. I can't believe how many Sox fans devalued Hudson on such a short sample size, his work with the Sox this season. What was it three starts? It sure seemed to me we could have got Jackson for much less. The perception to me at least was he was a guy who they desperately wanted to dump for salary purposes. I know some on here have disagreed with me on that. Jackson has been amazing. So that's a consolation, but couldn't we have given up a couple s***ty prospects for Edwin?
  10. I can't believe the Sox go through this all the time. They get left to praying for the Twins to suddenly suck when all the Sox had to do was play better baseball against s***ty teams before we get to this point. It makes it all that important to beat the Royals, Indians (nice job in finally sweeping Cle) and Tigers and at least go .500 vs. the Twins if we hope to win the division. I wonder what the odds are of us winning the division are right now when you take into consideration the fact Minnie has a much easier schedule.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 01:59 AM) I got really hammered once and didn't know what to do so I called Ozzie for advice. He suggested I get in my car and drive home. Since I didn't die or get arrested it was good advice and the smart thing to do. I don't see why sitting Manny on a night he flew all day with a day game the next day all against the worst team in the league was a bad thing to do. Also some reporters have suggested the bum didn't even WANT to play. We won the game he sat; we won the game he played. We won. I also can't believe some Sox fans are to the point they second guess after victories. It used to be that winning the game shut everybody up. Not some Sox fans. Winning erases all second guessing or it should, at least. You guys all played sports. Didn't you just feel GREAT when your team won? No matter if you went 0-for-4 or in basketball had six points and six turnovers on a night the team won?? I felt great at getting the W and still do as a fan of the Sox. The manager always gets the last laugh when there's a W.
  12. I say he either stays with us for a discount or joins the Angels or BoSox, likely the Angels. Could somebody make me a Pauliepalooza sign and put it after all my posts? Thanks.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 02:58 AM) Just watched the replay of the game. If Sox had lost that game on a Choo homer, Teahen's error would have been one of the worse Sox errors in a long time. How much does Teahen make per season? Glad it's not my money. The Twins win again. They are amazing. Four games is a lot to make up. We better not lose again on a night they win or we're really f***ed.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 03:04 AM) Manny didn't fill out the lineup card in LA. Torre did. I don't mind guys standing up for their favorite players. I have stood up for the likes of Wise and Dye and Jenks and AJ. But let me ask you. Did you like Manny before he became a White Sox or just now that he is wearing the uniform? I mean I cheer for the uniform in Manny's case, just not the guy in it. If you loved Manny before, more power to ya. I just don't see how anybody can't be skeptical about a guy who many in baseball, not just me, think is a bum.
  15. You guys mock me for blasting Manny, but that is the perception. I just heard Jayson Stark driving to work on national radio tonight and he said he couldn't understand how fans embrace this guy. He said it was a disgrace how he behaved in quitting on the Dodgers. Said nobody knows if he's a good hitter or not cause he has not played much this year and frankly didn't want to play. This guy was getting worked up and said he hated players who disrespect the game, like Manny. He said, "How hard is it to put winning above your own personal interests. It's only about Manny." I'm not the only person who thinks Manny is a rotten egg.
  16. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) When things go badly no one and absolutely no one gets away from fans giving them s***. Its the way it is and the way it wll always be. If you want the other side of that then the Cubs are the team for you. They give no s***zs. I know, but we are scoring all these runs and I frankly haven't seen one mention of Walker.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) A depression is in general a 10% drop in GDP or a recession lasting longer than 2 years. Neither of those states apply to the U.S. I don't like what is going on and I think the president should declare a state of emergency on the economy. All I know are people getting canned. This link is scary on depression in 2011. http://www.businessinsider.com/23-doomsaye...-in-2011-2010-5
  18. I just wanted to give him a shout out since he catches so much s*** when the offense sucks.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) You should see if ESPN is hiring analysts. With almost 10 percent of Americans out of work, I doubt they are hiring. I wonder when they are going to start calling this a depression and not a recession.
  20. Give that man a raise. Walker, that is.
  21. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) Someone will offer PK 3 years and it's not going to be the White Sox, unfortunately. Who is going to offer him 3 years? All the people on here who say it's a big risk to do that, et. all, why are we assuming some team will do it? Do they not fear his age and his hip like some on here? If not, why not? I guess some teams just have that money to burn. Maybe Paulie is willing to sign for 7-8 mill a year for 2 years. The Sox won't pay that? What are the BoSox or Spankees going to pay him? Are they willing to pay him 15 mill a year for 3 years as he hits the final stages of his career? The final years of Big Hurt's career were not pretty bouncing around. Why wouldn't he sign for a reasonable amount to remain in Chicago where he can hang around forever after his career ends? Is Reinsdorf not going to approve a significant 2 year deal when he'll pay Manny what he's paying him for a month of service or maybe 2 mos?
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) It's like having the right answer to a math question but no work shown. You might have gotten lucky with the result, but you didn't prove that you know what you're talking about. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) We won the game! How can you criticize Ozzie? QUOTE (VAfan @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) Kotsay drew the walk that became the tying run yesterday in the 8th. VaFan with the slam dunk. Nice job. The bottom line is winning. We won the game. From the account I read from Passon, Manny uh didn't really want to play yesterday anyhow. Believe whom you want. We won all 3 games which means they were well managed games. We lose they are poorly managed games.
  23. The key is having at least a 2 run lead in the ninth, preferably 3 or more.
  24. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Ozzie didn't make a great call in sitting Manny. Yes, we won the game, but we won because AJ hit a 3-run homerun. Kotsay (who Manny would have been playing in place of) had nothing to do with the 3 runs that led to the Sox win. I'm not saying Manny would have created any more runs, but Kotsay certainly didn't. As far as Ozzie goes, you can keep defending him and his sometimes idiotic decisions. Others on this board will call out Ozzie when he makes a bad decision. He's made plenty of bad decisions this year, and not playing Manny was another one...at least in my mind. So, let's agree to disagree. Thanks, Pitt. Nice post. I don't mind agreeing to disagree.
  25. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) That's exactly the point. If the Sox have an additional $4M to throw out for 30 games, management can no longer claim it's hard to recover when a big contract doesn't pan out. I also personally believe Konerkjo is the standard-bearer for the franchise and should be treated as such. As for "diminished range" and "Kasey Kotchman=comparable" noted in other posts...please...who have you been watching this year? That's how I feel. I also think he's as good a first baseman as you do. I actually love watching the guy play first base. Maybe cause I played it some along with third and I just loved scooping balls out and saving runs. The key is to make it look so simple and make it automatic and he does. He also has a great glove on grounders, must have great vision and "normally" fields everything so cleanly.
