They are sincere, thanks. I've pointed out, oh a zillion times, my nephew is a firefighter on the west side of Chicago and actually lives near the station. His opinions are valuable. Also have fam and friends still in Mt. Greenwood/Beverly who I speak with. And finally I have peeps in Naperville and Lisle and Aurora. I also point out my cousins are abandoning Chicago/suburbia for Zona and Nashville and the latest cousin is headed to Texas. All are sick of the taxes and danger in Chicagoland. Despite my trepidation about the city, I pointed out I was there in the spring and even walked around alone downtown one night and also wasn't afraid. I consider it luck. If it's the night somebody's cruising looking for trouble, that's a city u can get carjacked or whupped over the side of the head and robbed. I hope for the best for Chicago. Until the DA starts charging people and making the charges stick and not letting violent criminals out on bail ... uh, that's a problem. But Chicagoans still vote the DA for an extended term and will assuredly reward the mayor with re-election. Interesting city. ... Read this story i linked. Disgusting. Do a google on chicago violence daily; more often than not you'll find violence. https://news.wttw.com/2022/06/21/61-people-shot-10-killed-over-holiday-weekend-chicago-police https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/chaos-at-north-avenue-beach-spilling-into-chicago-neighborhood
  2. Gas has been expensive before but never an outrageous price like what's going on now. They are talking about 7 dollar a gallon coming soon. WTF? I know the days of the lines around the block were worse but that's about it. Joe is at war with the gas companies and at war against all fossil fuels. The Repubs love the gas companies and fossil fuels. So it will be very 'funny' to see this all change, total reversal, in 24 if Trump wins again. Or DeSantis. There's no way the Repubs will go green and get rid of gas-driven cars for all electric cars, etc. Two parties with entirely diff. philosophies and agendas. Joe has made it clear he's at war with those who produce fuel in the USA. Trump/DeSantis will be lovey dovey with the gas companies. Crazy times indeed. ... I do know I hate paying big bucks for fuel.
  3. That would be neat if aliens were nice, caring beings with no delusions of grandeur/violence, and finally came down with solutions on how we can all get along. It's possible. I mean if you use the idea of probability (the things the government has said; very intelligent people thinking the govtment is hiding info on aliens from us) I would say a reasonable take is we are not alone. How could we be alone in the vast universe? If the aliens are friendly that would be awesome if they come on down. We need the help internally (no need to explain) and externally (dealing with Putin n China too).

Strange post. I was just responding to an article I read. It's not like I dug the article up from 8 months ago, current article.
  5. Makes sense. They played hard for him on Tuesday night for sure. That was a good game in which the Sox appeared to battle hard. I laugh at any fire Tony talk because of reasons stated before. You (Jerry) don't fire your best bud a second time especially when your bud is a Hall of Famer and you yourself are very old. The odds of Tony getting fired are about the same as the Cubs moving the franchise to Nashville.
  6. Yeah I saw a tweet after my posting that said he's due back tomorrow. I would be skeptical of that. This will go down as the year of the Sox injury. Hopefully they can shake the bug next season.
  7. Not to be mean, but this is about the time I expected Luis to go down with injury. He had a nice run but was well overdue to come up hobbled. Basically the entire roster is an injury waiting to happen. Very very sad but I think true.
  8. Nice hit Josh Harrison. Good to see him get hot. Maybe the best win of the year? A top five win?

Interesting. Tex ... your take? Are Texans talkin' bout seceding? I think there's a breaking point and yes some states might go this route. https://www.newsweek.com/texas-secede-us-2023-gop-pushes-referendum-1717254
  10. You can't say this with 100 percent certainty. ... For one, how do you know Putin would have chosen this time to invade Ukraine with a more trigger-happy dangerous USA leader in Trump. Say what you want, it's possible he doesn't attack at this time in history if Trump was still in charge. ... And Trump would never have reduced drilling in the USA. He may be the devil to many, but there's no way he's pulling back on oil production in the USA. Discuss all you want if Joe's vision on energy is better, but no way in hell is Trump pushing ANY green agenda if it means this kind of pain at the pump. No way. This is kind of humorous how different the Repubs are from the Demos in this area. If somehow the Repubs win it back in 2024, there will be an immediate complete reversal regarding oil production in the USA, pipelines flowing, etc. So many things going on now (border included) would/will be reversed in 24 if Repubs somehow won. Crazy thought. Caveat: These are my opinions. I'm not trying to suggest I'm right even though I believe I am right.
  11. Just wondering your folks' emotions when you go to the pump. Not trying to say my reaction is mature, but I'll be honest and you all please tell me what you do while filling up. ... -- I actually say these words out loud unless somebody is close to my pump as I don't want to offend and/or get punched by somebody who might have no problem with the prices. I always shake my head while looking at the price monitor run amok and say, "Thanks Joe." I also look around and assess the possibility of a carjacker being near my car. So far I've mainly filled up in Lawrence and though we do have crime from the gangs in Topeka coming in, so far I haven't seen potential trouble from hooligans at the pumps.
  12. He said the buck would stop with him and he'd never make excuses (when he was running). I know. I know. They all lie.
  13. Nice win. Vaughn might be one of two Sox all stars. He and Tim.
  14. Good points all. ... I was trying to point out my post was no more silly than the people burying Timmy earlier this year when he had that bunch of errors. We just didn't call out those peeps for their angry takes toward Anderson playing SS.
  15. This post is interesting. I can't recall ever piling on any poster or come close to insulting any poster. A few posters engage and I enjoy reading their takes, especially if their takes are at least 2-3 paragraphs rather than a one-line zinger putting me in my place so to speak. I try to remain respectful at all times. I can't imagine anybody disagreeing with that statement.
  16. Tim Anderson is 6-1 185 with a good arm; Manny Sanguillen was 6-foot, 193 with a good arm. Our catcher position has been awful since Pudge Fisk (6-3, 200). Shortstop is much easier to replace. I stand by my desire back then to move Timmy to catcher. I'm sure if we found the original thread I have a lot of caveats in my post. I'm sure it's being taken out of context as most of my posts of the controversial variety are. Peace. p.s. A lot of Sox fans considered TA a liability at SS when he was making those errors earlier this season. Find those threads too. (I think he's a fine SS and excellent hitter and I never jumped on him for those errors. But we fail to single out those who made ridiculous statements during TA's defensive slump, just me; rest assured I saw them).
  17. I see the guy the Sox brought up tonight did get a hit but whiffed three times. I forget his name and too tired to look it up.

Good. I'm glad. I don't want harm to befall anybody on this board, including mods. I was in Chicago five nights in March and stayed downtown. I must acknowledge I was intrigued, not scared, on two occasions. On one, I was walking with a guy into a parking garage downtown about 10 p.m. and briefly wondered if it was smart to be walking down a staircase with several levels. Woulda been a good spot to get slugged/mugged. ... One night about 9 or so I was alone and starving after working and walked a few blocks to get a couple slices. Was a bit concerned that somebody might pull up and ambush me walking alone down there. Personally I think there's some luck involved/wrong place/wrong time type deal. Also the weather was drizzly and fricking cold and I think that gave me confidence any muggers might wait til the weather got a bit better to do their thing.
  19. I forget now if I did or not. I'm a believer in 'change of scenery' so my concern wasn't so much how he was doing but his history as a guy with ring(s). I salivate at acquiring somebody with leadership skill on a bizarre team like the Sox.
  20. My bad. I thought you were blasting me. I was wrong on this one apparently but I stlll say it'd be nice to have another guy with respect in the clubhouse who has won the big prize. Sort of like the Zobrist role. But apparently Cain even thinks he's finished so once again, I whiff on the argument, yet I contend the Sox also whiff a lot so no biggie. At least I try to contribute to discussions. Not all of my points are dismissable.
  21. OK, Pollock is good; Cain bad. I will root harder for Pollock. If he's red hot, good for the Sox and us fans. Like I said I appaarently whiffed on this one. Sorry to waste 1/100th of people's days the last two days. You wasted 1/100th of mine making sure I spelled Pollock right and you wrong. Peace.
  22. The guy got released yesterday; actual topic. So what if I swing and missed; the Sox do it all the time. I value winners; all those ripping me obviously are going by his stats which is fine. I still believe in change of scenery and doing something out of the ordinary besides fire the manager (which also WILL NEVER HAPPEN with the Sox yet was discussed here). A judge would probably say I whiffed badly. So what? That and 2.50 will get me my usual Starbucks or Dunkin coffee. Life goes on. Sox whiff all the time. If I whiffed, bad on me.
  23. Heaven forbid we discuss things on here. If I whiffed I whiffed. Life goes on as does the season. Go Sox.
  24. If he's done he's done. On to the next guy.
