  1. We've been thru this before. I told u you are quicker than me, smarter than me and come back at me with quick one liners while not answering my questions. I try to give a long response to your questions, get nothing in return but another question. So I won't take this bait and for now will say "no comment." I think I have the right after my long answers are returned with one liners such as this. I told you before "you win" any argument with me cause you are better than I am in such a give and take. I think it only fair if u want a discussion you do more than fire one liner questions bak at me. Peace out
  2. This type of post is thought provoking and interesting and personally why I still look at message boards. You offer an interesting perspective and give me something to think about. I'd have to think more about what you wrote before commenting but I totally endorse your right to make this post.
  3. Well ... sure. If I break the law I am responsible for my actions and should be punished. Like rob a store or carjack or punch somebody and break their jaw. If I do something like that it is my crime and I must accept the penalty. I am responsible for those heinous things and must be penalized. If I take a bat and start whacking my neighbor's car I am responsible for damages and must pay the price in court of law. If I jump. over the fence and run on the field and delay a Sox game, I am responsible and should be tackled and charged and thrown into a cell. If I am a baseball player and call TA "Jackie" twice during a game do I deserve a penalty? Sure. I think he should be penalized. The length of the suspension maybe to be decided after a meeting between commish and player. One week to two months depending on what Tim wants and how Donaldson explains himself. True all Donaldson did was utter words and not physically assault TA, however, the words could be construed as racist and meant to cause a disruption/fight in the baseball game. And those who run the game could feel these words were directed at one person in a sports setting, not some entertainment venue in which such comments might be allowed (like a comedy club). Thus the comments are not good for the sport or specifically today's game and Donaldson's words deserve punishment IMO. He did it to rile up an opponent and like u say, personal responsibility kicks in and he should be punished. Do I think comics are personally responsible for words in their act? Personally I'd say no. People can get up and leave or even ask for their money back even though that request would prolly be denied. If they do it on TV or Netflix, the consumer can always turn off the TV or close the browser window. You should know if you choose to go to a comedy show something offensive to some, funny to others, might be said. Now if a comedian grabs a brick and throws it into the crowd, yeah they are responsible for their actions and should be prosecuted. So I guess yes I do believe in personal responsibility. However I don't think you are gonna answer my specific questions about comedy. I tried to answer yours. I would hope most people in the world have a sense of humor.
  4. i'll drop this if you want, but I do have a question. Do you believe in comedy? Do you believe all topics are OK for comics to tackle? Have you been to a comedy show? And do you think comedy should be allowed in America with all topics acceptable, letting the people decide if they want to support the comic or not? To make him/her popular or not? It's OK if you think "risque" comedy or "cuss word comedy" should be regulated. I don't. I think Chappelle and others have free reign. Let the consumer decide if that comic gets popular or not. it's just entertainment. Comedy is something people don't have to support if they don't want. But no need to cancel comics over their act.
  5. This is all pretty unsettling for baseball. Baseball needs to solve this incident quickly. It has the potential to get really really ugly. Not sure what commish should do but it's pretty much all in Donaldson's court. He needs to figure out how to make amends for this and do it quickly.
  6. It's not like he has one topic in his show. It's not like he goes out there an hour and hits one group and one only. He goes after all sorts of groups as part of his COMEDY ACT. People need to chill out. Comedy is comedy. People can turn the channel, not buy tickets or walk out.
  7. I didn't start it. I was responding to a post about cancel culture and being told what it is. I love me some comedy cause I don't take it seriously. It's comedy baby. And Chappelle is so funny I can't even describe.
  8. I think Dave Chappelle is so funny it's beyond words. His job is to be a comedian. Like Don Rickles, no subject is off limits for a great comedian like Chappelle/Rickles. Some like Seinfeld (who I just love also) keep it clean and don't make jokes about sex and race and ethnicity; some do. It's just comedy. One can turn the channel or not go to the concert or walk out of the concert if they don't like it. I was listening to Chappelle's bit about meeting O.J. four times tonight off youtube and he had me laughing my ass off. A guy like Seinfeld won't go after an O.J., which is fine too. As far as comedy, I thought George Carlin was brilliant. I saw his show in Vegas. He was attacking parents for giving male boys what he called sissy names. He gave some examples of names he didn't like (he preferred Joe, Bill, Bob, Dave; names like that). I'd say 1/4 of the crowd walked out. Their right to leave of course but no need to cancel the late genius, George Carlin over comedy.
  9. Disagree. Can u say Dave Chappelle? The attempt at canceling him is over his profession ... cutting JOKES.
  10. Oh I think Josh D will get suspended for his comment. That will be him having to pay for what he did. How long a suspension is the question. I do think the 2 should meet and discuss what is going on or talk on the phone. And if Timmy doesn't accept Josh's apology, I think Josh might be sitting a long time.
  11. In a nutshell. ... -- Donaldson is lucky he's a Yankee. Might help him considering Yankee fans will have his back completely. -- Tim as a human being has a right to be upset about whatever he wants. If he was offended baseball and the world has to understand he has the perfect right to be offended. In a perfect reasonable world, Like flavum said, the two should meet tomorrow alone and hash it out (as long as Tim is OK with the meeting and there's no chance the two will brawl). Two good baseball players who apparently have talked to each other a lot on the field in the past should merely meet and talk it out). --- My conclusion: If he wasn't a Yankee Donaldson probably would get a HUGE suspension for this, since he admits calling TA "Jackie." No matter the context (SI article) he'd probably get 2 months suspension cause of cancel culture. Because he's a Yankee, I'd say he'll get a week suspension (since he's admitted doing it), maybe two weeks. However if Tim refuses to accept any apology from Donaldson, Donaldson might be suspended a long time. Tim's reaction to what happens tomorrow and ensuing days will probably determine Josh's future in the game. Just my take. I'd like to hear folks' takes on how long Josh will be suspended.
  12. By the way. Another bad loss. Sox aren't in the same class as the NYY. (Capn obvious part infinity by me).
  13. True dat. I don't get worked up at all any more. The fact it's a Yankee who said it (tons of fans across the USA) means Donaldson probably won't get canceled. Sick of cancel culture. Flavum said it all here, but I'm sure most everybody on this board and in the world will say flavum's stance is wrong. Seems to me Donaldson thought he and TA had an inside joke since Timmy said he felt like Jackie Robinson sometimes. A sigh and yawn from me, but I realize Donaldson is on the cancel ledge if not canceled already. Only thing would save him is Yankees are doing well and NYY fans will have his back. Peace out. (I realize my position on this is the minority so keep that in mind if/when u respond to blast me). I just agree with flavum's post is all.
  14. Sox have had enough rainouts that those could have been the "rest" days Tony and Hahn so value for their players. So stupid to rest guys. Heaven forbid the best hitters play both games of a DH. Too much work for one day.
  15. How come the Sox aren't hitting many HRs? Robert has the HR stroke once in a while. I guess Sheets. The rare times he gets a hit it's a HR. He has 20 hits, four are HRs. Vaughn 18 hits, four are HRs. Abreu 28 hits, just three HRs.
  16. I may hate this team but I am a Sox fan and I'll applaud them for the win and 3-2 series win. Glad to see Anderson and Robert do well again. This team blows but it is our fave team.
  17. That damn winning streak got me excited again after I'd given up on the Sox. Mentally I had checked out. If they lose today it's time to check out until they somehow reach 10 over .500. Sox brass have to be worried about the tank/rebuild right now. Can't imagine this unit winning anything of note right now. Scary. I guess if Tim, Eloy, Robert, Grandal, Moncada, Abreu are healthy at the same time and get hot at the same time excellence is still possible.
  18. They do hit a ton of foul balls. .... boring baseball on the South Side this year.
  19. Is Hahn on a one-year contract? I can't imagine him sticking around after his contract runs out. He's not put together a very good team even though the team is banged up.
  20. Why is Lopez a reliever? I thought he was a major acquisition during the days the Sox were trying to lose to get better draft picks to go with the Sale trade and Quintana trade.
  21. I wonder if the Sox lead the league in foul balls.
  22. Just getting around to the game. Hard to believe the Sox lose as many games as they do to this wretched KC team. You'd think the Sox as a franchise would want to dominate the Royals when the talent is in the favor of the Sox. What a joke. Sox finally have much better talent and can't rule the Royals. Sickening.
  23. With all due respect, no way! It was conceding the game basically. Did u listen to Ozzie postgame?
  24. He is too old to be managing a big league team. Sad but true. You can't stop Father Time as much as you want to. He needs to step down. I love his career and am all for him pulling the strings still, but he's too old for this. Many people stop working around 65. Tony is 12 years past that. My gosh. And big league managers work 15 hour days for six months of the year.
  25. Would you guys look at the replay and tell me it was a good send? My gosh. Disagree fully. Robert prolly would have slashed a double off a reliever who wasn't missing bats and a team that sucks.
