We don't have anymore interesting RP guys in AA or AAA?

Do you want Kyle Crick instead? Cause I kind of don't.

Well that is upsetting. I feel like we usually have a couple guys in the minors having good years that are worth a shot.

Just starting to look a lot better

  • Heads22 changed the title to Kelly to IL (strained hamstring - out a monthish); Banks up

Kelly is getting paid $8.5 million this year. And he'll more or less end up missing 2 months of the season out of the gate. Great job FO.

This dude may not have 10 IP by the all star break.

How are these professional athletes who supposedly have the best training and training staffs constantly getting these type of injuries? Kelly was just throwing a pitch and he strains a hamstring. Are they not stretching enough? Are they lifting too many weights or not enough ? It is like professional baseball players are made of glass now.

Spending any amount of FA money on relievers unless it's just "fuck you" money where it doesn't affect any other financial decision -- is beyond stupid. I don't always or even at all agree with Josh Nelson but his tweet about how the Sox do well as an org with cheap relievers yet signed a bunch of older, aging expensive ones anyways -- was spot on.

There were a decent amount of mid to back end bullpen guys that took one year deals for less AAV they could have also rolled with.

That's about 1/3 of the contract insurance will pay.

Considering he was hurt when signed , I doubt they were able to get insurance on him.

No worries, sox can just call up someone like Konnor Pilkington

Oh well, this is just who they are. The IL is just baked right into the Sox cake.

My original thought exactly.

Doesn't have to be a pitcher.  No state law here that says pitcher only.

Isn't it closer to 60-65% of salary for that time missed?

As for the White Sox, Lloyd's of London should probably avoid insuring them at all costs.  Losing proposition unless the premiums are out of the stratosphere.

All depends on the deal they get. The bigger the contract the less of it that is covered.

I was just estimating.

They still get at least some.

Tony’s guy!
