Leading off for the 2007 white sox will be....
greg775 replied to max power's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I really hope Ken/Oz realize that "tinkering" with the team does mean getting rid of Pods. He stole 40 bases. How many times did he get caught? It had to be at least 20 didn't it? Bye bye Pods. -
We need to start at least two lefties. Please Kenny make it happen.

Southside I love your posts; don't do this to me. You know damn well I did not call for Redman and Guiel. I tried to ask a question as to what you all thought of them and would it be wise to get them. I value hearing other opinions and living in KC I saw Redman get 11 of KC's 50 wins. Guiel I always liked his spunk. I didn't say we must sign them; you know that. I love Crede. I said I hope BA makes it; I just think the fact he was so horrible so horrible early made Oz not want to see his fricking face in the lineup. Brian if he wants to be a big leaguer has to hit .250 minimum the first six weeks not .150. I am hoping Brian is the same as Crede; eventually becomes a good hitter. I am saying I completely understand why Oz soured on BA and got him only 350 at bats. BA SUCKED at the plate early; just sucked. I am no know it all; I asked if you thought getting an older lefty like Redman (Kenny R) might be a good idea. If we keep BA as our cf I will not be mad; I love his defense. I'm just saying this year even though he's young he DID NOT DESERVE more play than he got. He just didn't. AS FAR as this comment: Podsednik was awful both offensively and defensively can you give me one good reason why he got 500 ABs? Yes. Scott P. unlike BA has history on his side. Oz knew from the previous season the guy was a catalyst who if he got his s*** together could again lead us to greatness. Scott P. has a history; the probability of his getting his s*** together existed. Also Scott P as bad as he was, was never below the mendoza line if I remember correctly. BA simply was an automatic out the first 2 months or so. Our manager didn't want him out there any more. And yes, I'm in favor of dumping Pods now. I'd take Lee over Pods in a minute now. Oh and by the way if you are still reading; I grew up on the Southside. Attended Brother Rice. Still can't believe the score of last Friday's St. Rita game. wow.
-
Get rid of Vas; cut our losses. Keep Freddie. That said, I would anticipate Fred gets dealt and he will be the only one dealt.
-
Maybe if Brian Anderson hit over .200 the first two months of the season his manager wouldn't have gotten sick of the thought of putting this automatic out in the lineup. I cannot for the life of me understand the love of this guy. I can understand people writing, "I still have faith in Brian if we have patience. He might learn how to hit in the bigs." I cannot understand people that wanted this guy to have 500 at bats. BA was AWFUL at the plate this year. He was great defensively.

I also like Roeper but he is wrong. These may be cliches Hawk uses but they are not as bad as the sports cliches borrowed by entertainment and news writers all the time. Roeper should re-read what he wrote and immediately admit he was wrong. I don't think he wants Hawk to be dull and Hawk would be dull if he didn't say these things.

The Twins looked tired the last two days. Pathetic effort. If they were gonna play like that, why'd they even make the fricking playoffs? We coulda done better.
-
Those four guys would make a lousy AAA outfield.
-
Are you saying Oz should have continued to play BA who hit in the .220s and give him 550 at bats? He didn't have anybody besides the horrible Mack to play in place of Brian. So how is that Oz's fault. I guess you think he shoulda played BA every day, cause who else was there?? I understand what those who dislike me are saying. My main point is, being an Ozzie backer like I am, and having to endure the many threads of how he was misusing Brandon McC and Anderson all year ... I was wanting to give some of it back to KW. Rather than just congratulate Frank on his killer season and opening game of the postseason I think it's fair to ask why the f*** he's not still winning games for the White Sox? And if you make that argument like I am, then I have to have Thome not be on the team and if Thome is not on the team, Rowand is, and Rowand you have to admit is right now better than Anderson??? What is so moronic about those sentiments?? I know why KW did some of the things he did, I also know why Oz did the things he did. He thinks Anderson is either a stiff or not ready. I think my rip of KW is just as justified when a team like the defending champs does not at least earn the wildcard. Thanks to tony for keeping this sybil, I mean civil.

I'm just asking you to consider what I'm talking about. History says we did not repeat. That is a proven fact. For debating purposes what is so hard to at least talk about, consider my point? I am not saying I'm 100 percent right. But for discussion purposes. ... Frank is carrying the A's. Jim did not carry the Sox. Marte and Viz could not have done worse than what we had this year. We still had Bobby. Blum was fine. We did not need Mack. Rowand was fine; we did not need BA. Yes the starting pitching was a vital factor. I am saying why can you not accept the possibility my argument about Frank holds water. The stats say he has been HUGE. If we keep him and Aaron we perhaps improve in other areas. Yes I guess we needed a lefty bat; Frank had a big righty bat all year. I'm just saying KW in hindsight may deserve to get blasted. and Gene Honda Civic ... ok, give me your take on KW and the moves he made. I'm interested. You tell me BA was acceptable and our middle relief couldn't have used better tweaking. I do agree with this comment by southsideirish: "Basing baseball decisions on the commemorative 2005 DVD is not a good way to go" I guess in many ways I am doing that; I'm just saying in hindsight ... was this not a plausible explanation for our failure?
-
Great point, that obviously could happen. The article on BA where Brian says he wants to work hard this offseason returning to where he slams hits in the gaps is encouraging. Oz said the job is not BA's but it's obvious if he shows improvement he has the leg up considering he already got a year experience under his belt and is incredible defensively. If we don't make a deal, I'd expect to see BA start the season in cf, but he will have a short leash unfortunately for him. Don't you agree, though, that Oz is not high on the guy and is desperately hoping for an upgrade?

If Boras can get the Yanks or Mets or Red Sox to pay way more than the fair rate, then bye bye Joe. But I'd love to see him taking care of the hot corner for years and years. He is the best.
-
Exactly my point. Thomas didn't hit .219 and the ankle didn't matter. Can you argue it's a business of results? I know we "had" to make changes after winning it all. But did he make the right changes? BA .... sucked. Rowand was missed. Blum ... starting today for Padres, could have remained, was Mack that good? Marte and Viz ... could they have been helpful especialy with Hermy hurt? Frank ... again, he is carrying that team single handedly. I am just saying Big Hurt is making KW look VERY BAD with each and every home run and each and every stellar performance. If Oz gets lambasted, why not KW for this move which can be second guessed. And I do love Thome. He was good this year; but did we need him when we could have had Hurt and addressed other needs like letting Aaron continue to play balls out and run into walls in cf.????
-
Oz catches so much flak from fans. Should KW be fired for letting Big Hurt go? It's a business of results and Big Hurt is fricking amazing. He leads the A's single handedly to a Game One win today?? My gawd. Why is he not a White Sox and why are we not riding Big Hurt this postseason. p.s. poor cardinal fans. They have to listen to Berman do the game.

Does anybody with inside knowledge of the Sox know anything about Uribe? Is he a hothead? Does he not take instruction well? He seems to have a ton of offensive tools but has the totally wrong approach. Will he not take coaching to spray the ball all over the field? He's a great defender? What's his problem not using those tools offensively? I mean you can tell he has potential the way he takes a whack at the ball? Too impatient at the plate? Trying for hrs too much? SEND URIBE TO WINTER BALL WITH A HITTING COACH

If Frank Thomas keeps this up all postseason, he goes into the Hall as a member of the A's. So sad he's still not a White Sox. I love Thome, but Frank is in the postseason; Jimmy is not. KW's biggest blunder ever. If Frank Thomas keeps this up all postseason, he goes into the Hall as a member of the A's. So sad he's still not a White Sox. Not to delve into hockey here, but the Hawks will never win a Cup. That organization is worse than the Cub. GO BEARS! go Sox next February.
-
If we started our A team the whole series, we'd have lost game one and/or two, probably both. It was that kind of second half. Det. can't complain; we at least pitched our best guys.
-
I simply love Joe, but I have no problem saying bye bye if it's because of Boras. If Joe wants to go do the Yankee/Met/Red Sox thing, go for it, Joe. You'll be missed, but I can understand if KW can't deal with Joe's agent. Many of the small market teams don't bother, either with Boras. Bye Joe, you were a stud while it lasted.

It was fun. Thanks especially to those who lend their expertise with stats. Everybody has strong opinions about their favorites and guys they hate and the arguments are always civil. I for example think Garland is great and I think Ozzie is great. I also think BA is overmatched right now. And I hated the manlove for BMac. And I didn't believe our bullpen was as good as some cracked it up to be. Also I would prefer keeping Fred over Vas. But I respect all your opinions. It will be nice if the Bears can keep it going; it'd be a quicker winter I think if the Bears keep this up. But Feb. can't come soon enough. I hope it's Yanks v. mets so I have no desire to watch.

I have a feeling KW would rather quit than watch Pierre or Figgins next year. I don't think we have to worry about him getting one of the 2 for Oz. Oz likes managing the white sox. There will be no ultimatums. KW doesn't want Pierre, at least I hope not. -

Let's hope KW's thumbs down in the media means no Pierre. Hopefully KW has no use for that slap hitter. Why not drop Pods, give Sweeney the job. -
Frank is a stud. I think most White Sox fans would agree with that.

Did anybody catch the season highlights on the WGN pregame show? We had some incredible moments. Hawk and his "mercy" calls and his patented home run calls. Awesome. I still can't believe we're not going to the playoffs and the Twinks and Tigers are. Ninety plus wins and no playoffs. What a shame. Also we're pitching better of late and still might have had some of the best starting pitching for the postseason assuming BMac could pick up for Jose which it looks like he could judging from his start. Opportunity lost thanks to our s***ty bullpen except for Jenks. p.s. In the Oz interview with Roan he showed manlove for Sweeney and Charlie. It appears Oz never wants to see BA's face again, defense be damned.

I've been thinking about this. We need to do what it takes to get Ichiro. Agree?
