  1. Well I see we got the good/great Lopez today. Cmon Coop. Work on him being consistent next year. Stellar outing.
  2. ANOTHER great post. Is anybody against giving RF to Avi? 2 years, 11 million total? He'll give you 25 home runs if he's healthy in the Cell, 75 RBI and .260 to 270 BA. Also a White Sox through and through now with playoff experience coming. Avi baby OK with everybody? Anybody besides Greg? He's very cost efficient if you need to put the $$ in pitching too. I mean do we really want to pay a RF candidate huge bucks when we still have guys in our system that may pan out in the OF? Like Rutherford? Couple other guys too might respond to MLB and do well. (addendum note: when i talk about money in threads please realize I don't care about Jerry's money but I realize payroll is a factor in discussing the Sox)
  3. You know, I do want Jerry to spend until it hurts and Rick Hahn to spend some of the owner's cash. I do, However, I agree Mr. Hahn faces some challenges in this regard. I point out Greinke. Would I want Greinke's production the past few seasons? Yes. But just think, in his six year, $206 million contract, you pay him $32 million in 2020 and $32 million in 2021. Can we identify the next Greinke? A free agent or two that we must pay 25 to 30 mill a year that guarantees us postseasons? Tough job I'm sure. It's crazy money to acquire one or two players sometimes. It's up to Hahn and KW to sort all this out and figure out which top dollar players will get us over the hump. Because Jerry's not the easiest man to work for I'm sure in terms of final payroll figures. Perhaps we need to hire somebody off the Twins staff. They have Cruz as their highest paid player at 14 million for this one year.Next highest is Gonzalez at 12 million; Odorizzi 9.5 million. They only have nine players making over 5 million a year. In other words, our patient fanbase deserves a winner and Mr. Hahn must Just.Do.It. Make the right decisions, sir. Twins are 18th in total payroll at 125 million; Sox are 26th at 91 million. tampa bay is last at 63 million. I betcha our payroll will not be over the Twins' 124 mill anytime soon though.
  4. Certainly worded better than my posts on the issue. Jerk is the man IMO.
  5. Bama Doc deserves credit for a fantastic post.
  6. It all depends. Right now, no. If we win an AL pennant or two or one WS and he's one of our better hitters on those teams, yes. If he has the hit the wall and has a significant age 33, 34 decline and blows, no he will have no chance IMO. Pure odds would say no at this moment IMO.
  7. I tried. I failed. Not worth fighting this battle any more.
  8. Why didn't a team with the Cub$' re$sources win pennants in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s? Bad people in charge and not spending enough money on good players. Do you dispute this? They finally won a WS via the tank/rebuild. Why couldn't they win in the decades before tanking was allowed by fanbases, owners, and commissioners? That was my point. Any competent team with those resources should have won many WS titles in the pre tank eras.
  9. As usual, you and others don't understand my point, so I pass.
  10. I thought namecalling was frowned upon. Say what you want about me. I've never disrespected you or anyone on the board suggesting stupidity, etc.
  11. You don't get my point. They ALSO had the funds to have the second highest payroll in baseball immediately after Curt Flood won his case. It's inexcusable they couldn't win the normal way. Tank/rebuild is a relatively new phenomenon you realize? The Sox have a lot of reasons for not winning before. Comiskey was cheap. Veeck had no money at all. John Allyn didn't spend $$. Jerry has always been cheap no matter what some folks say. Yes a few years we had a very good payroll.
  12. First of all my comments don't bring threads to a halt. Prove it. Secondly, you need to talk to more average fans, ones who you would say "don't know baseball." My statement that the Cubs rebuild/tank was a failure is correct if you take into consideration what I'm talking about: the history of Cubs baseball. You won't even try to understand what I'm saying so I'll stop after this. The Cubs ... with all that money through the years could have and should have won numerous NL pennants and a handful of WS titles the last six decades or so. With all that money they could have won a batch of titles in the early years of free agency -- definitely in the 60s, 70s and 80s they could have won titles the old fashioned way. I'm saying the tank is a failure because it provided one title. This year and last were disgraceful conclusion to their rebuild attempt. You won't try to understand what I'm saying about the old, traditional way of winning pennants (spending money; getting the best players and managers) so I'll stop. If you attempted to converse about this I'd take part. No more posts from me on this topic.

I love me some Collins. The greg eye test is rarely wrong as long timers on here will tell you. Zack passes the eye test as you say. He's ready. Play him.
  14. I'm saying if the Cubs have to resort to a tank/rebuild to finally win one WS, that is sad. All that $$$$$. They should have been able to win some titles along the way doing it the old fashioned way. So Tony I presume you think you know baseball. And I guess tank/rebuild is the only way to do it? Even for the cash rich Cubs? Sad for them.
  15. Cubs can't win pennants the old fashioned way with all that cash? They got to tank/rebuild? If Sox had that kind of money I'd expect utter domination like the Braves winning all those division titles back in the day. Whatever ... if I'm wrong I'm wrong. I don't think having a bad opinion once in a while, IF this was a bad one, is an impeachable offense.
  16. I still say the Cubs rebuild/tank was a failure. I mean with all the money they have to work with, a good GM could win simply by buying free agents and going with the guys in their minor league system when they are MLB ready. Cubs are really in trouble. No playoffs this season is unacceptable. Who would have thought Milwaukee would get this good?
  17. No one will fall on sword. Team is winking its way to the bank. Making zillions of dollars. Crowds are still decent. The money is flowing. Jerry already got his one WS title which was magical. Sure he'd love for another, but my feeling is with all the Bulls titles and his one baseball title ... accumulation of $$$ is most important to him right now as he takes care of many generations of family before he moves on.
  18. The test was 05. We won it all and if ever the Sox were going to pull even in popularity or take over it was then. I would think we had the most momentum we'd ever have, but the team did not maintain. It celebrated one full offseason and the entire next season and from then on, it's been all downhill. My guess is if somehow this tank/rebuild turns into utter dominance of baseball, yes we'd pull even or pass the Cubs. But frankly despite the acquisition of Hall of Fame type talent in Moncada and Eloy and perhaps one of our best hitting shortstops ever in Tim, we are far away from .500 even. Our pitching staff remains suspect at best. If Cease, Gio, Kopech, Lopez dominate, it's a different story. As of now we have very inconsistent starters and an awful bullpen. In conclusion, we blew a chance in 05 to take the city by storm (Blackhawks times 10) and now we are totally inconsequential, maybe 3/5s through a rebuild in terms of roster.

I didn't know u drove for Uber Eats.
  20. I like your post. This team is nowhere near contending unfortunately. We'll see how much Robert and Madrigal kickstart the lineup and if Hahn can rebuild a pitching staff. Our staff is so bad this team currently has no chance of sniffing .500 next year at this time. Arguably we could have a worse record next year. You advanced statters ... combining all the war and everything, did this team overachieve a lot this season to get the record it has?

you may have told us before, Jack, but how do you survive? How much money do you get via government? I just wondered how it works and have always wondered if it's possible to live without income. Take care sir. I don't like this scenario you painted. Sounds like your cousin is not coming through for yu after all. 15 months is a long time minus $. Good luck to u Jack.
  22. Embarrassing loss. Ripoff for the fans. Sickening Fulmer and Santiago performances. Lot of lousy players in the lineup and on mound for Sox tonight. Roster upgrades needed. Current roster not near a .500 team next year. With Robert and Madrigal? Getting closer. This pitching staff is very very horrid.
  23. Zobrist turns 39 next May and gets about 10 mill a year. I'd think our posters concerned about Jose would have a major problem over this one.
  24. I probably missed it but has KW or Hahn or Ricky praised the fans at all this season? Crowds at home have been great from all I can tell watching on MLB. I think Coop is fine but he really should shut up. You never win by blasting fans and I'd venture to guess a lot of the fans who attend games have done so for a long time. There's got to be at least 100 or so die hards who have been supporting the team forever and the Sox need somebody to thank them not make them read Coop's negativity from social media of all things. Bleep social media. Who cares what anonymous folks write on there?
  25. Our No. 1 picks aren't always great ones and that's a tenet of the tank. To get guys at No. 10 and from what people are saying on here, Collins isn't exactly a prime prospect. Although I'd make him starter next year and see what we got. He's ready. And aside from all the hype earned by McCann from his great start ... if Jose had this type of second half we'd be screaming loudly to get rid of him. The built in excuse for McCann is he's tired cause it's difficult to catch. Just play Collins and forgetaboutit for a while.
