  1. Tim is an all star. Another nice double by him.
  2. Tough crowd here. Engel gets an LOL for a home run and a "does it really matter" and Jose gets total crickets for homer 33 and RBI 113. U guys baffle me.
  3. Man, you are optimistic. Our inconsistent starters simply must become consistent. We need some free agent mound signings especially for the bullpen. We could use a starter who 80 percent of the time is amazing. GO SOX!
  4. I'd say he's at least average on digging throws. As far as his bat, fans can watch a replay of last night's homer. He can still catch up to pitches and drive them out of the park. I wonder if fans of Vaughn would be happy with the numbers Abreu has put up at the plate this season? I would think so. 32 Homers and 114 RBIs. Cmon. RBIs can't be that antiquated. they are a sign of production. Is Vaughn considered Hosmer-like on defense? I mean are we talking superstar here? I'll concede Abreu is no superstar but he is a star. Oh I was going to point out, Rex Hudler on the record said on the broadcast last night "Abreu is one of the best hitters in the American League." Listen. He said it.
  5. That was a nice play by Jose on the pop foul by tonight. I still say he's a C on defense or C-. He's not an F. He digs well and he throws to second well. He goes well to his right, is awful to his left and awful on short flies that go to the outfield. I know a lot of you are passionate about how bad he is on defense so I won't argue that. I just don't happen to agree that he's so bad it would cost us a WS. The man appears to be in his prime as a hitter is what I'd say. He crushed that pitch tonight though baseball has become home run derby I'll give u that. I know a lot of you are penciling Vaughn in for stardom. That excites me. Is there any chance he could fail? Or is he a Trout-like can't miss talent? I know this board pretty much is assuming greatness the same way I assumed Eloy greatness. And Eloy is can't miss. One final point: With superstars in Moncada and Eloy and some other guys our manager has no excuse not to start winning a majority of ballgames starting next year. Get him some pitching, Mr. Hahn. Moncada and Eloy are gonna put up monster numbers and I happen to think Jose puts up monster numbers already.
  6. For some reason you have to be careful when tweeting DM's on the phone. I don't know why but the tweets can end up showing up on actual Twitter for everybody to see if you DM with your phone.
  7. Royals win tonight's game of Home Run Derby. Sad what baseball has become although my guy did hit a home run tonight. Bless u Jose.
  8. holy bleep. I wonder why I thought they'd win big.
  9. i wonder what i predicted. I'm thinking I said 10 below .500 or so. Maybe more.
  10. I think when he's a player on the team you follow and you are an analytics person, there's much more of a "fear" of decline than if the guy was on some other team. In the past fans on here have been OK with the Sox going after various guys with much more alarming age and stats than Jose. They want to head off the diminishment in his game which they feel is coming rapidly in his case because of his analytics/age. My take is we have a zillion good players for the rebuilt team and he'll be fine next year at first and DH after that IF Vaughn is good. Also Sox have pinched pennies and I know they can afford 12 mill a year for Jose for 2 years.
  11. You can't deny there's a weird vibe on this board surrounding Abreu. Like you saying I'm on a high horse. I'm a fan trying to praise a veteran White Sox player who has had one of the most consistent seasons of a Sox player in a while. He had one little, what was it, two week slump? Aside from that he's raking. I'm trying to stand up for and praise a player. Why is this about me being on a high horse. Man ... times have changed. You can get in trouble on a team's message board by praising a player too much. Weird vibe for sure.
  12. If it's against the law, arrest him. If not, leave him be. If it's against baseball's rules suspend him. If not let him be.

You sound like you may be better off working for yourself or being the boss of a company. You said you like to be in control of "everything." And "do things my way." That's tough in the job world unless u are very established at the company.

Good post Beast. Sounds like you are doing well. Hope you find that fulfilling work.
  15. Avi is 1.7 WAR. He comes cheap. He loves Chicago. He has tidy numbers of 19 HRs and 66 RBI in 453 at bats. Seems to me he'd be perfect for a year. Then if Rutherford bombs keep him another year. How bout Avi to a 2-year 16 million deal? Or one year 7 million with a club option for a second year at 8 mill? He and Abreu are the two free agents I'd like to sign. Some of you guys should trust my position that we need some veteran leadership and those two guys bleed White Sox colors.
  16. Your credibility is in question because you think Abreu is absolutely no good. That's just not true so that hurts your credibility. I mean to attack a guy who leads the league in RBI and except for Albert Belle would be right up there in all time team HRs is downright wrong. Yes your position on Jose hurts your credibility. Now you could argue my credibility is gone because I opined that a certain player would be a good catcher. Kind of Manny Sanguillen-ish and had the stats that would make him an outstanding all-star catcher. That was before Timmy turned into a .320 hitter. That obviously translates well at shortstop or any position. I did not foresee that coming. I dropped it when called on it so my credibility isn't completely shot.

Dick Allen, Jose Abreu and Hibbard oh my! They are my favorite peeps since Lions, Tigers and Bears in Kansas. Thanx you three for praising Jose!

He was hot early and earned an all star berth. He wasn't enough to carry some of the stiffs in our everyday lineup and in our everyday rotation. Anybody with sense IMO can say he did his part in helping this team contend. He's been basically good all year cept for what, that 2 weeks right after we fell out of contention? Maybe 3 weeks? I credit him for playing so well when the team has so few big games in the course of a season.

I'm glad a couple guys like greg hibbard are rebutting some of the statements about Jose with facts. I like it.
  20. I can understand criticism of a player. I certainly blasted Royce Clayton enough and Adam Dunn. But I don't understand criticism of somebody who has produced. It really makes one wonder what is going on in ron's head? Say what you want about RBIs ... the guy leads the team and league in RBIs. He's over .280 now. He drew three walks yesterday and crickets. He's having an all star season at age 32 on a horrible team. I know in a free society you can criticize anybody you want but this reeks of something utterly unfair. Considering all the bad players on this team ... and the guy to attack constantly is Abreu? Makes no sense. We're all worse for having to put up with it cause it adds to negativism in our daily lives. Oh well.
  21. Great win. Good story on Cease's outing. He knows he has to throw strikes. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/dylan-ceases-latest-outing-short-and-not-very-sweet-its-another-chapter-where-he-needs-be
  22. I see Brother Rice pounded Perspectives the other night. I love BR but seems like they should have known Perspectives couldn't give them a game. My perspective is BR would have been better off playing some suburban school like Naperville North or Benet. Putting perspectives away in one quarter doesn't benefit anybody really.
  23. Cool, Breach. Let me guess. Evergreen Park HS or Morgan Park HS or Oak Lawn HS. Or Reavis. Can't think of any other south side schools.
