  1. Yu mean that I haven't been shot or killed like some unfortunate people? Yeah a lot have it bad. I agree there
  2. You know I think I always felt that way too. It was like walking away from my puter and coming back 49 out of 50 times with nothing wrong made me feel neutral at least about the world. When I came back and saw no puter after just a minute away it really shook me up. So mad at the thief and myself. And then you think ahead to all the stuff you have to do to get your world right again cause of all the s--t in the computer now with some crook.
  3. Gosh darn you got your wallet back! That is sweet story. The pain I felt on mine was for being so bleeping stupid. Yes when you go to the bathroom you sort of think your stuff is unattended, but it's just one minute. Second I was mad the p---k stole my stuff. I mean seriously if I'd have returned to my seat and some guy said "buddy i considered stealing your computer and would have but didn't will you give me something?" yes I'd have given the guy 50 bucks. Major hassle the next 18 hours getting a new puter, dishing out 2400 bucks and lamenting all the stuff i lost on my puter. Now I carry it with me to bathroom and am paranoid about leaving it in the car even if i go to Mass for one hour or run into a store for 10 minutes.
  4. Damn all that stuff got stolen ... makes me so mad people do that kind of bleep. I kept calling the robber an 'animal' to the cop.
  5. Holy bleep. 30 seconds. Just like my story. Only for some reason they didn't take my computer bag which surprises me cause with all those compartments there could have been valuable stuff in there. That was a minor blessing they didn't take it cause I have a lot of intstructions and passwords and travel stuff in there. Cant really figure why they didn't want the computer bag w/the puter. Just quick theft of the computer.
  6. I've never wanted to lose and was against tanking so I want to win baby, win!
  7. why don't you send a letter to him or the Sox? It's supposed to be illegal to chew during games. I figure to each his own but if you are offended, contact the Sox. You can send a letter to Abreu. He'll read it.
  8. You guys are assuming a lot. He's a lifer in MLB. If the Sox fired him he'd get a job within a week or so.
  9. You can relax IMO. He's not getting more than 2 years. And if and when Vaughn is ready for 2021 he'll be the first baseman. Jose will be DH. If Jose blows so bad in 2021 they have to take him out of the DH role, so be it. All that would be wasted is a few million they've gladly wasted before.
  10. What did I miss? People are mad at RR for the rant and people are totally bought into advanced stats. So where I am I off base? I guess you would say they want a manager that at least "uses" analytics. My point is there are SO many stats there's no way a traditional baseball guy (anybody who played the game that's over 45, 50) is going to buy in and delve into them deep enough to warrant a lot of decisions based off those stats. If a GM is convinced advances stats are huge, or even gospel, well then go there, get on with it and get an advanced stat team in place with the buck stopping with what I call the GM/manager who would be responsible for quickly making decisions based on probability, etc. Where am I off base with this suggestion? There's no way one man could pull this off even if he likes studying advanced stats. BTW I'll stop now as I sense I could get in trouble if I continue expressing about this.
  11. Then Hahn etc should put up or shut up. If analytics matter and people blast RR for ever using his "gut" let's get on with it. The technology is there to make ALL decisions based on stats and probability. Don't need a baseball man as manager, need somebody who is an analytics guy get the wheels moving each and every game. Folks you can't expect one manager (over 50) to be able to digest ALL that stat info (and there's a TON of it) and make decisions based on stats in every occasion. A team of people could pull it off.
  12. Since I live in a smaller town, I've always been not so concerned about getting robbed. I've just never thought of myself and my stuff being in constant danger. I wanted to share this quick story and ask you a.) if I am a chump and deserved to get robbed and b.) ask you to share stories to make me feel better about stuff that's been taken from individuals and it's not just me being a loser. Quickly: I was at a laundromat cause I like to do laundry in modern laundromats but nobody happened to be in there. I did my laundry and there's a restroom in there. I went to the restroom and came out and my laptop was gone from where I was working. All that information gone cause I forgot to turn on the backup and forgot to turn on the "find my laptop." it really shook me up as I needed to hustle and get a laptop the next day, etc. Cops came out to laundromat, had the guy on film but nobody has captured him or recognized him. Bums me out that I was so f-----g stupid to go to the bathroom for one minute and not realize some a-----e might steal my stuff. My question to you: Do you EVER leave your stuff unattended. Do you consider me the biggest chump ever in leaving it sit there for 1 minute? Have you ever had your house broken into or a car stolen or a wallet or ? Any stories to make me feel better about me being a total idiot in leaving my stuff unattended? Thank you and feel free to be brutal on me if that is your true feeling. I can take it and me being so stupid really has inconvenienced me, losing so much stuff.
  13. I'm glad RR went after the analytics people a little bit. Sensitive much? Did anybody listen to him? He got a bit hacked during one answer. He never said analytics were bunk. I think when you hold a news conference before every fricking game and after every fricking game the manager is OK going off a couple times a year. This wasn't even a bad rant. I liked it cause it at least made the stat people take notice for a day or two. If there's never room for a "gut feeling" in baseball, seriously why not have GM/manager dual roles. The manager will make all decisions relayed to him based on analytics. We're at that point we could do that you know? Get some computer geniuses supplying all the data and it would start with a computer generated lineup and we go from there during the game.
  14. My answers: a.) If you don't like how JR runs the team literally your only option is to become a fan of another team. (No, I can remain a fan and moan about Jerry and hope he gets back to a hefty payroll). b.) The reality is - yes you can sign Jose Abreu to a 3 year deal, but that also means in 2021 you don't get someone else. For a not unreasonable example, You get to keep 2 of the 3: Jose Abreu, James McCann, and Alex Colome. Which do you let leave? My comment: "Man, you think Abreu's lousy 36 million would affect the team's ability to sign people that much? Jerry is the one who should become a fan of another team, not me, if that's the case. I thought we almost tied up 300 million in one player; that's a lot more than 36 million. Not sure how much McCann and Colome are going to command. That's another topic but I'm willing to listen. I'd think both actually are never going to break any team's bank so to speak.
  15. Your comment is well taken. I just get sick of thinking about Jerry wasting all that money he could be using on those boats/vacation homes/luxury automobiles while pretending he's a small market team (despite recent article on what the team is worth) by signing stiffs like Alonso, Jay, Nova, Herrera, LaRoche. I feel like the money will be there or could be there regardless if Jose gets his 37.5 million total or not (over 3 years). We only need to buy one outfielder, 2 starters, maybe 3 and 1-2 relievers in the free agent market. Now I do realize you are probably upset reading this thinking I missed your point. I get your point. If Jose gets 16 million over 2 years or 8 million over 1 year that leaves a lot more money to buy what we need in free agency. Yeah I get that, but this is a guy (me) who doesn't buy all the stuff Jerry is selling in terms of how poor the Sox are.
  16. Excellent post even though I still disagree with most of your position. That said ... as far as the above, basically the Abreu-dislikers (not haters) or Abreu-worryers pretty much agree with any Jose-lovers. He's not getting more than 2 years. That only became a recent concern when Passan or somebody mentioned a multi year deal. He's not getting a 5-year deal. You guys are more in line with Hahn thinking than I am. Trust me, it's going to be 2 year deal with some sort of third year option. I sense you and others will be freaking at any third year if that comes to fruition. I'd bet the house Abreu is gonna get 2 years 12.5 million a year with some sort of option for a third year that will make it easy for the Sox to let him go. My dream is he earns the 25 million for two years then if he's still producing, start signing him to one-year deals in the 3-8 million range. If his agent thinks there is a team or two that will give him significantly more than that, I guess there's the chance he goes thru the free agency deal, which would be dumb. All the concern about age can't help but reach the brains of even the Abreu-lovers like me. He's not getting some 5 year contract so you all can relax there. You guys may have to, gulp, suck it up and accept he could get that third year, though. All the money that hahn has wasted (Nova, Alonso, Jay this year) my take is who cares if Jose gets a little "lifetime appreciaion/clubhouse leadership" cash to spend instead of Jerry buying another boat or snowmobile for the grandkids.
  17. any tape/link of Ricky's analytics tirade? I'd love to listen.
  18. Yes, part of what drives me crazy is the expectation Jose is, like the one poster put, "very old" and he's going to open next season 1 for 30 and it'll be downhill even more from there and he'll finish .225ish, 11 home runs 66 RBI. Just total lousiness.
  19. Next year is his age 25 season. I'm not trying to be an ass here, really not, but that means he has about 7 years left of awesomeness according to the new age "guidelines" of execs. Even Passan called Abreu aging at 33 so this is the prime age range you need to look at for Moncada: Now through his age 32 season. So an average of 35 homers times eight seasons gives him 280 homers. He's already hit 45 so give him 10 homers a year average from age 33 to 38 and that's 50 more. Does he project to maybe 375-400 homers. Not bad at all. Thomas is Sox career homer leader at 448. A good question is to how many home runs will Eloy hit? He projects to bash a lot of home runs if he gets his 550-600 at bats per year.
  20. Don't need to fight back, Dick. We respect your takes.
  21. My point was in response to being called a troll. This alleged troll had a pretty good take weeks ago considering a respected national guy shared the same thoughts. I'm out for now. Hibbard and Jose Abreu and Dick Allen and some other posters are the ones I feel have the right takes on this.
  22. WRONG. How bout I was calling for the EXACT SAME contract Passan wrote about WEEKS ago. You are wrong. I don't fricking troll and you have insulted me. Read my posts.
  23. I personally think they look at WAR and at that point are ready to rip Jose's page out of the team yearbook forever.
  24. Oops, greg the amateur psychologist sees us back on the playground with chitownsportsfan ready to punch somebody. We're at that stage of the argument, insulting very reasonable posts from pro-Jose people.
  25. What's been your biggest problem with stat-filler Jose, mqr? The biggest reasons cited are he's ancient calendar wise, he can't field, his WAR is lousy, his defense is horrible. Meanwhile, Jose-lovers like me nod in approval when looking at his PRODUCTION: homers and RBIs baby! And leadership of course.
