Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
Yet he was an All-Star. I'm assuming his WAR (yawn) was just as bad compared to others at the all star break when he got picked. I forget. We Sox fans don't applaud our guys for all star selections unless they are aged 25 or so or having a wild reclamation year like McCann. p.s. Oops I'm in a praise Jose mood today which means I better log off. I am in a mood where i could be baited to express great love of Jose!

You can't have it both ways. If people want the new analytical stats, then get ALL baseball broadcasts to stop showing BA and RBI and ERA and Wins and Losses. Otherwise, Jose's stats are quite great this season. 100 RBIs at the end of August. Nice. Decent batting average for a slugger too. And lotsa home runs. As far as his defense, frankly, who cares? He's good at digging for the most part. I'd say he digs well on 8 of 10. He throws well on the 3-6-3 DP. He's bad on pop ups and lousy on shots to his left. He's OK to his right. My Jose grade for 2019 season: A. How's that for a traditional stat? A grade. I wonder what everybody else gives Jose. I bet some of the 'haters' go as low as C-.

Moncada
He turns 25 next late May so yes he's just a kid. Years 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 are the years he's expected to earn his keep. His keep is helping us reach the WS in 3 of those 5 years and winning it twice or 3 times. After that he figures to be on the decline list as far as traditional baseball goes. Unless advanced metrics changes by then and like Greg, starts to value older players. GO SOX! Tip of the cap to those of us on the board who never blasted Moncada during some of his struggles (mostly caused by the homeplate umps) last year. Some people bagged on Moncada if they'd go back and look.

Passan: Moncada, Giolito are among players to watch for extensions this winter
Seems a no brainer. Sox scouts decide both are stars or stars in the making. You sign them for as long as you can now otherwise you could lose them. Obviously there's a risk. I feel dumb typing that because there's a risk to signing free agents who have been around a while. If your scouts think they are stars ... you sign them now for as many years as you can.

Getting robbed/what has come of society, etc?
That is very scary. They probably were armed if you were in the house sleeping. That's a helluva lot of stuff they stole. Yeah, in my case the police didn't even ask if I wanted to see the picture of the guy. I mean hell I could see the guy come back to the same place some time. No call; no nothing; no followup.

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
I think baseball is in big trouble if the only stats that matter are ones that take great explaining as to how they are compiled. The viewer isn't supposed to concern himself/herself any more with pitcher wins/losses, batters BA, RBI. Homers are blah because of the lively ball unless you whack more than 50. Not much to go by anymore, even if virtually every broadcast uses the old stats.

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
Notice you rarely get an answer to your posts. I often hear on here that I am overreacting and nobody hates Abreu on here besides Ron. Yet I kind of beg to differ. I definitely sense an "I wish he'd go away" mentality in posts about Jose. And the stat people don't usually answer your points at all. They just mock me praising Jose's RBIs. Then last night I turn on the Royals game on TV for the first time in a while and the first discussion I hear is them gushing about Simien's 7 RBIs.

Former Sox updates (Avi, etc)
Semien has 7 RBIs tonight. Oh wait, RBIs ...

Do you ever feel like your dislike of Jose is a bit excessive? I mean guys like me think the world of Jose and his contributions to the White Sox on and off the field.

It's just wrong to deny RBIs mean SOMETHING. Only one player in the AL has more runs knocked in than Jose. Why not praise the man? Sox fans are weird sometimes. You have a precious guy like Abreu and it's always some people looking for his warts. 100 RBIs. Good job, Jose. Somebody should start a congratulations thread for Jose. I won't do it cause it will look like I'm trying to stir things up.

Good post by vile. For some reason if I wrote this I think I'd be accused of trolling. The post has a cool rhythm to it.

Yu mean that I haven't been shot or killed like some unfortunate people? Yeah a lot have it bad. I agree there

Getting robbed/what has come of society, etc?
You know I think I always felt that way too. It was like walking away from my puter and coming back 49 out of 50 times with nothing wrong made me feel neutral at least about the world. When I came back and saw no puter after just a minute away it really shook me up. So mad at the thief and myself. And then you think ahead to all the stuff you have to do to get your world right again cause of all the s--t in the computer now with some crook.

Getting robbed/what has come of society, etc?
Gosh darn you got your wallet back! That is sweet story. The pain I felt on mine was for being so bleeping stupid. Yes when you go to the bathroom you sort of think your stuff is unattended, but it's just one minute. Second I was mad the p---k stole my stuff. I mean seriously if I'd have returned to my seat and some guy said "buddy i considered stealing your computer and would have but didn't will you give me something?" yes I'd have given the guy 50 bucks. Major hassle the next 18 hours getting a new puter, dishing out 2400 bucks and lamenting all the stuff i lost on my puter. Now I carry it with me to bathroom and am paranoid about leaving it in the car even if i go to Mass for one hour or run into a store for 10 minutes.

Getting robbed/what has come of society, etc?
Damn all that stuff got stolen ... makes me so mad people do that kind of bleep. I kept calling the robber an 'animal' to the cop.

Getting robbed/what has come of society, etc?
Holy bleep. 30 seconds. Just like my story. Only for some reason they didn't take my computer bag which surprises me cause with all those compartments there could have been valuable stuff in there. That was a minor blessing they didn't take it cause I have a lot of intstructions and passwords and travel stuff in there. Cant really figure why they didn't want the computer bag w/the puter. Just quick theft of the computer.

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
why don't you send a letter to him or the Sox? It's supposed to be illegal to chew during games. I figure to each his own but if you are offended, contact the Sox. You can send a letter to Abreu. He'll read it.

You guys are assuming a lot. He's a lifer in MLB. If the Sox fired him he'd get a job within a week or so.

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
You can relax IMO. He's not getting more than 2 years. And if and when Vaughn is ready for 2021 he'll be the first baseman. Jose will be DH. If Jose blows so bad in 2021 they have to take him out of the DH role, so be it. All that would be wasted is a few million they've gladly wasted before.

Renteria goes on pregame anti-analytics rant
What did I miss? People are mad at RR for the rant and people are totally bought into advanced stats. So where I am I off base? I guess you would say they want a manager that at least "uses" analytics. My point is there are SO many stats there's no way a traditional baseball guy (anybody who played the game that's over 45, 50) is going to buy in and delve into them deep enough to warrant a lot of decisions based off those stats. If a GM is convinced advances stats are huge, or even gospel, well then go there, get on with it and get an advanced stat team in place with the buck stopping with what I call the GM/manager who would be responsible for quickly making decisions based on probability, etc. Where am I off base with this suggestion? There's no way one man could pull this off even if he likes studying advanced stats. BTW I'll stop now as I sense I could get in trouble if I continue expressing about this.

Renteria goes on pregame anti-analytics rant
Then Hahn etc should put up or shut up. If analytics matter and people blast RR for ever using his "gut" let's get on with it. The technology is there to make ALL decisions based on stats and probability. Don't need a baseball man as manager, need somebody who is an analytics guy get the wheels moving each and every game. Folks you can't expect one manager (over 50) to be able to digest ALL that stat info (and there's a TON of it) and make decisions based on stats in every occasion. A team of people could pull it off.

Getting robbed/what has come of society, etc?
Since I live in a smaller town, I've always been not so concerned about getting robbed. I've just never thought of myself and my stuff being in constant danger. I wanted to share this quick story and ask you a.) if I am a chump and deserved to get robbed and b.) ask you to share stories to make me feel better about stuff that's been taken from individuals and it's not just me being a loser. Quickly: I was at a laundromat cause I like to do laundry in modern laundromats but nobody happened to be in there. I did my laundry and there's a restroom in there. I went to the restroom and came out and my laptop was gone from where I was working. All that information gone cause I forgot to turn on the backup and forgot to turn on the "find my laptop." it really shook me up as I needed to hustle and get a laptop the next day, etc. Cops came out to laundromat, had the guy on film but nobody has captured him or recognized him. Bums me out that I was so f-----g stupid to go to the bathroom for one minute and not realize some a-----e might steal my stuff. My question to you: Do you EVER leave your stuff unattended. Do you consider me the biggest chump ever in leaving it sit there for 1 minute? Have you ever had your house broken into or a car stolen or a wallet or ? Any stories to make me feel better about me being a total idiot in leaving my stuff unattended? Thank you and feel free to be brutal on me if that is your true feeling. I can take it and me being so stupid really has inconvenienced me, losing so much stuff.

Renteria goes on pregame anti-analytics rant
I'm glad RR went after the analytics people a little bit. Sensitive much? Did anybody listen to him? He got a bit hacked during one answer. He never said analytics were bunk. I think when you hold a news conference before every fricking game and after every fricking game the manager is OK going off a couple times a year. This wasn't even a bad rant. I liked it cause it at least made the stat people take notice for a day or two. If there's never room for a "gut feeling" in baseball, seriously why not have GM/manager dual roles. The manager will make all decisions relayed to him based on analytics. We're at that point we could do that you know? Get some computer geniuses supplying all the data and it would start with a computer generated lineup and we go from there during the game.
