  1. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) Past performance and WAR numbers for prior years are irrelevant. As Stone pointed out today, Avi lost weight and is getting to a lot of balls he didn't in prior years. His batting average has improved and he has had a lot of clutch hits. Today, Avi had outfield throw that nabbed a guy at second and another one where the tag just missed. At this point, I would not trade Avi for Jason Heyward. I can't stand the Cubs or Heyward anyway. I hope the Sox resign Avi. I like that player would like him to be part of the core moving forward. An outfield with Avi, Eloy and Luis Robert would be nice. I just read the awesome future sox report and Rutherford has been struggling. Avi and Abreu need to be part of our next WS team, folks. You can't win with all new guys. Why can't everybody see that? Why would you want to trade Avi when you've got that potential outfield of Eloy, Robert and Avi with either Rutherford at DH or one of the other Sox outfielders we have in the minors. I like what I've seen out of Liriano. Right now I guess you could (reluctantly) trade Avi this offseason and give Liriano 580 at bats and see what you've got there. If Liriano blows, Rutherford will be ready the following year. I hate to see Avi go, though, as I'd like he and Abreu to be the leaders of our WS teams. It's scary that Cleveland's future looks bright for a long time to come. At least Detroit and the Royals will be sucking. Twins figure to be pretty good but probably won't have the $$ to fill in the gaps. GO SOX!
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) You are grounded For telling the truth in a game thread? They have a great team; ours is pathetic. The Indians took a while to get going but have woken up and appear primed to finish the job this year. The Sox are doing their thing, but it's currently a pathetic baseball team. p.s.: Any Rymer Liriano fans on here? He seems to attack the baseball
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) This series will have benches on the field. That'd be pretty dumb of Cleveland to get in a fight with the Sox and possibly derail their season if somebody gets hurt. Great teams do not need to fight pathetic teams to prove a point. If the Sox charge the mound, though, the Tribe will have to fight back.
  4. Is Rymer Liriano an intriguing prospect or a stiff? I've been reading on him. Was supposed to be a base stealing machine. Was a top Padre prospect. But hurt his arm. Out forever. Hit in face. Our forever. What an unforgiving game is baseball. A guy compared to Puig (I read it) who is about out of chances. Anybody high on Liriano at all?
  5. Trump today blasted South Korea for thinking it can negotiate with North Korea. Trump chided China for N. Korea being an embarrassment to China, which has tried, Trump said, but failed to stop Kim's aggression in testing nukes. I'm convinced Trump wants to have military response but is probably being talked out of it for obvious reasons. I mean the minute we bomb select targets in North Korea, Kim blows up South Korea and Guam and Hawaii and all those deaths will be on the U.S. "leader." This remains scary. Don't you guys agree with me? Trump certainly wants to hit North Korea with military power of some sort. He still could do it, but I think he needs a plan because what I said will happen. There will be an awful response from Kim and millions of people will die in the places I mentioned including a lot of US troops who would be sitting ducks. I still say we're 70/30 something bad will happen soon regarding this situation. I wish it were 30/70 but you've got Kim, who is pretty much an aggressive asshole with no regard for human life, and you've got Trump, who is a rich businessman with a hot temper and not a lot of common sense who I think would like to drop some bombs on N. Korea.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 06:41 AM) You don't think he's worthy of that?? That's peanuts today. That's Melky money. Are you saying 5/75 is way too much? You would go for 5/50? 5/60? He's not worth 10-15 mill a year in today's economy? Is that based only on the advanced stats?
  7. Some of Coop's pupils do wind up sucking, but when stuff goes well, I jump right on the Coop bandwagon. Hail Gio.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 12:56 AM) So what part of his approach do you like? He swings at terrible pitches and maintains a groundball swing path after five full seasons. "Barreling" the ball isn't an "approach," it's a "result." He's succeeding despite doing things that don't usually lead to success. Again, he may surprise us all and be the first guy ever to sustain a .390+ BABIP, but would you bet on it? He may finally learn to hit for 25+ HR power, but there's nothing to suggest he will at this point. A 3 win player is a nice player to have around. but if .395 BABIP Avi is a 3 win player, then normalized Avi is, AT BEST, league average. There's nothing wrong with a league average player, but you don't build around him when he's a year away from free agency. Look, I'm open to finding some evidence of something sustainable that changed with him -- I've just yet to see it. I just want what's best for this team and everything I've seen says is telling me this guy is a flash in the pan. No offense to you stat guys, but gol darn I'm glad the advanced stats don't interest me. me sees Avi; me likey Avi.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 04:54 AM) Couldn't have said it better. Even being Avi's biggest supporter it would be wrong to extend him based on one good year . They jumped the gun on Anderson and it still may work out but still need a larger body of good performance to extend him. I don't know why you guys worry about spending Jerry's money so much. He'll be fine. Offer Avi 5 year extension at 75 million. If 15 mill a year isn't good enough, then let him walk when he's a free agent. But other than that, why not? He and Abreu will be nice pieces when we are good and NEED some true White Sox vets on the team!! You know .... you can let some guys walk. The Royals are doing it this year, letting Cain, Moose, Hosmer, Escobar, at least 3 of 'em walk. No sin in keeping Avi and seeing what happens during his FA year. If he won't take 14 or 15 mill a year for 5 year extension. Jerry must love you guys who hate spending his money.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) If you treat a Sox game like watching a sitcom where witty banter is the norm then Sox games can be entertaining. If you like actual baseball talk then perhaps your viewing experience is not as enjoyable. Things like Sox math , and Sticks and Stone and now the Kamka thing is a lot of silly filler but ,hey, that's entertainment !?! Bennetti and Stone are fine and at this point better than crabby Hawk and Stoney. I like Bennetti. His dumb jokes are OK IMO. I'd give him a B. Stoney an A and Hawk, whom I love, an F now. Too crabby. Giolito and Rodon. Wow. Two aces. I like it. Anderson ... way to wake up! Nearing .250. Avi had a rough game. I worship Avi. Want him badly to hit .320 to .335. Please do it Avi.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) Don't really agree with the strictly artificial. If it was so easy a lot more guys would be hitting .320 but hardly any do among the so many talented ball players in MLB. Is Avi the only one being so lucky or is it a product of hard work and making adjustments to his approach . He's the only lucky one obviously. Before I get in trouble, is it safe to say Avi has become a Sox talk whipping boy like Garland, Floyd and the others? Or are there enough Avi lovers that that's not the case yet? I'm starting to think he's another whipping boy and we best be rid of him to avoid all the ensuing arguments.
  12. QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) So based on your premise.......why would a team give the Sox ANY sort of value for Avi Garcia? Exactly. Why would anybody want Avi Garcia? We're stuck with him obviously according to that premise (green on the word stuck). But other teams know your stats. Avi will bring nothing in trade value if we go according to that initial premise of him being lucky.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) Funny what a minimum wage of half a million dollars a year can do for someone. Glad to see you tell it like it is. You make that kind of money you will find a perfect looking wife. Case closed.
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 04:32 AM) Avi 37 for his last 83 which rounds up to a .446 average, Nice to see him hit the HR today and triple whenever it was a couple games ago. He appears to be going to right and center field most of the time now, Not sure if that means the trying to pull more experiment is over but sure can't argue with the results. I believe at one point his average dropped to under .305 so to bounce it back to .327 really takes a prolonged streak when you have so many AB's already. Today's game is a perfect example of that. Avi goes 3 for 4 and his BA only rises .004 points. The " any doubters left" question is purely rhetorical since I know I will see things like outlier, BABIP, and lets see if he can repeat it next year. Of course I'd like your thoughts any way . I worship Avi Garcia. I finally looked at the standings today. Very sad my team is almost 30 games below .500. Amazing. But back to Avi. Love everything he stands for. What a season.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 2, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) Floyd took over Garlands spot as board whipping boy Two more guys I stood up for all the time and got reamed for it on here. I loved both.
  16. Crete beat Bro Rice. 0-2. Is Crete any good? Bummerville.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) Bleacher Report‏Verified account @BleacherReport 2h2 hours ago J.J. Watt's fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey relief is now over $10M thanks to a $200K donation from Drake http://ble.ac/2grKyid Awesome. You know somebody mentioned it on this board not too long ago. But as much as we Americans hate on each other, in a total crisis, every time there is a horrific crisis, America comes together. It's very weird. When things are A-OK normal we have Black Lives Matter runnning amok. We have white supremist morons running amok. We have mass murderers running amok. But when we have crisis, American always shell out money. Have you seen all the tweets from people offering shelter in their own homes, etc? We are a very very weird country. I mean I'm grateful for how we help each other in crisis. But then when things are normal, we despise each other. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) Quebec offers blankets, beds and hydro crews to Texas in wake of Hurricane Harvey Texas Secretary of State says no need for now, asks for prayers instead http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/que...arvey-1.4267387 The secretary of state erred here. WTF? Take the blankets and beds. WTF?
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) Didn't they just do exactly this over the past year or so? I hope the guys they got are the best. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) greg I love ya buddy but Gio is up already up and in the rotation there is no opinion in that. Look for Crete to beat Brother Rice tonight btw. I thought Gio's was just a late season reward/look. If we have he and Rodon for sure in the rotation next year and if Lopez is in the rotation, for their sake I hope they speed up the rebuild. I don't care what anybody says. Pitchers failing at any point of their careers is not necessarily healthy. I hate to over-react about Rice but didn't like what I saw vs. Marist. Now that's a first game and all that. Maybe that junior QB is going to be great. By no means am I burying a high school kid after one start. I'd move the senior QB to RB or defense and simplify the offense and see if some of the new skill players can develop. I would think Rice will come out fired up beyond belief vs. Crete wanting to not go 0-2. I'd think they will show considerable improvement with a whole new cast of characters this year trying to run the dreaded spread.
  19. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) The dude is a lost cause. They are just bringing him up to bomb and get the #1 pick. Not he's not. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) There's no doubt they are the same underlying person. I'm not a troll like that. I mean cmon that statement of his is just to get a rise out of people. I DO NOT do that. No way he knows if Fulmer is a bust or not yet.
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) No chance in hell you are not a troll. Gio up in September? What the f*** are you even talking about? I have my opinions; you have yours. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) If you would have told me months ago that we would have traded Gonzalez for a former second round pick (still 20-years old), I would have taken that every day of the week. It's time to develop some of these high round draft picks who look like busts. Sox have done it with pitchers. Why not spend a few bucks and get the best hitting version of Coop and sign him up? Hahn's career is on the line if this all doesn't work out so you'd think he'd improve our minor league instructors.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:14 AM) Gio is already in the big leagues. As is Lopez. Rodon appears to have turned a corner. But yes, because we lost an average starter it's full blown tankathon. DAMN YOU JERRRRY I really gotta stop getting sucked into your logic blackhole. Within the same hour you will post that the Sox have 7 guaranteed superstars in their farm system, that they will lose 125 games because they don't have a closer, the rotation will be horrific because Shields is the 5th starter, and Gonzo is an incredible talent who will save the Sox from tanking but also will have no suitors in the free agent market. Gio is here as a late season reward and look see. Lopez is a question mark. I love Rodon. Why don't you understand my logic? I do like our farm system players. Our bullpen will guarantee our suckage next year. Gonzo is not incredible but a suitable No. 4-5. Unlike Shields, Holland, Pelfrey. Some people on here understand greg and feel Greg's posts but don't speak up. A couple have said they understand my posts. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:24 AM) Statistically, he looks like a F hitter. Can't get close to .700 OPS at any minor league level. Maybe the scouts see something. Didn't expect much though. The guy is a 2nd round draft pick, 6-foot-3 and 21. If we had some hitting instructor talent we could develop some guys. Why have a Coop who is excellent and nobody on the position player side to DEVELOP guys. This guy we acqured is a perfect baseball player body wise. Gotta develop him. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:48 AM) If I ever care about Ti'quan Forbes again I will be quite surprised. The bigger upside to this trade is it makes them even worse the last month+ of the season. Why can't we develop Forbes? Second round draft picks are supposed to have TALENT. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:57 AM) Right?!?!? How anyone can not be happy with this is beyond me. Kid definitely has quite a bit of upside and some physical tools. Nice article on SBNation about him a few months back. Maybe a change in scenery will give him a spark. He definitely has upside. He has the physical body. Develop him, White Sox.
  22. It depends if the plan is to tank one more year. If we plan on sucking it'll be a bullpen like this one. If we plan on winning they need to rebuild the bullpen and it's anybody's guess who would be the closer. I figure it's Nate. It's his turn to be a closer. We'll see if he can be healthy and do it.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 03:58 AM) Yeah Rodon/Gio/Lopez and Kopech a couple months in is gonna be a garbage rotation You wait. Kopech and Gio will not be in the bigs til September next year. Sox will not rush guys in a wasted season. I know I've been up and down on Lopez. I'm not THAT high on him yet. Do you guys think he's a lock to be a No. 2, 3 stud or are u like me and not convinced? I do worship Rodon. I'm convinced he'll be a stud, health permitting. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 03:59 AM) Yup, us trading a free agent to be definitely means we'll be tanking next year. That's some quality deductive reasoning right there Greg. Well done. I know he's a free agent, but I figure he's one of those guys you could just sign for pennies w/out much competition. He has to be happy with Coop and nobody's offering him much dough this offseason. I feel like he could be a moderately acceptable starter if we're trying to win. He's certainly LIGHT YEARS better than Shields or the two guys who are not as good as Fathom: Holland and Pelfrey. I figure MiGo is the kinda guy who after the season ended woulda agreed to a cheap contract and stay on the south side with Coop.
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) Bummer once again has problems with the leadoff batter I love u elrockin but you are wasting effort typing in anything about Bummer. He's pretty pedestrian with no future in our pen when we get good.
  25. I wish we could develop hitters like Coop does pitchers. Cause this is another intriguing guy, Forbes. 6-3, 180? Wow. A tall third baseman. ... A second round pick who has done nothing so far in the minors. Only 21. Obviously has talent. But will he ever sniff the majors? I know I've ripped MiGo in the past but he actually had some good starts. Do u think this moves means we truly are tanking again next year? We've pretty much dealt every MLB pitcher who possibly could get anybody out this year. Nobody's taken Holland or Pelfrey so far cause they are off the charts lousy. Me thinks our staff is gonna be putrid next year cause cooler heads will prevail and Sox won't rush the prospects.
