8-10-15 LAA vs CWS (Shoemaker vs Sale)

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 04:05 AM) It's great Avi had a good night, but he still only has an OPS of .701 AFTER his home runs tonight. Temper the excitement a little, he has still had a miserable season. Well, you got to enjoy the good nights, right? He looked like a ballplayer today. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 04:13 AM) Give a rest with your shenanigans. I can't help it if you guys constantly bag on two of my favorite Sox, Danks n Flowers. -
QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 12:48 AM) My one word: Disappointed I put disappointed as well. I said I was very disappointed. I didn't use the 'E' word. I also said I was disappointed at the team's continued suckage vs. the Central.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 01:57 AM) BLIND SQUIRREL POWER! No, he's an average catcher. There aren't many catchers out there that can hit. Look at Soto ... one might argue he cost us the game the other day getting picked off. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 03:51 AM) He's made adjustments and it's better. Hope he keeps it up He gets hot once in a while. He's like the team, really. Constant roller coaster. I think we all hope he makes it big. He does look like he tries. -

Wow the good White Sox are back. Oh well, you got to win one game before you win 10 in a row. -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) And he's obviously lying. Do you not get that part? In a sense, you're right. Donald Trump could say virtually anything, no matter how stupid, dishonest, or rude, and his support would probably stay about the same. That's the benefit of appealing to idiots. Sadly for Trump, most conservatives aren't idiots and he has no chance. Be careful. You can't call me an idiot and get away with that.
-
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) lol. It's not an out - it doesn't even make sense. He's continuing to get bashed for it, and rightly so. ...and do you even know what an alibi is? I think it's already died down. He said he didn't mean what the deviants say he meant. Perfect job by Trump. He'll ultimately be thrust out of the race but not over this issue. he survived it easily.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) Guillen, who was the 1985 A.L. Rookie of the Year with the White Sox, won the World Series in 2005 and also got the club into the playoffs in 2008. He had five winning seasons in the eight years as manager and was named Manager of the Year for his work in 2005. Five winning seasons in eight years. Not half bad! I'd bring him back with a clause he's fired if a committee of owner, GM and 2-3 others deem any of his public statements socially unacceptable.
-
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if two / thirds of the crowd this weekend for the Cubs series are made up of Cub fans. And I wouldn't blame Sox fans for staying away given the franchises performance certainly since September 2012. Something else I've noticed which should be troubling to the organization. On the on-line version of the Tribune the past two mornings, not one word, one story is about the Sox on the page that first comes up on the screen. As bad as the Sox are you'd think the "badness" would get some mention. It isn't. The Sox are becoming totally irrelevant in their own city. Not blaming the papers in one sense (although from a journalistic standpoint it shouldn't matter what the team's record is). My guess is that the majority of the season ticket holders who signed up this year after the off season spending spree on veterans in their 30's won't be back. Mark It'll be very embarrassing with all those Cub fans in the park. Sox fans are smart. They've long given up on the season. Cubs are playoff bound right now. Very embarrassing to have the Cell turn into Wrigley South this weekend.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:02 AM) Yes, you're right. The Sox should've traded the guy they traded for in the off season 2-3 months into this season. Packing it in back in May/June would've been the way to go. Then his 3-4 month rental price would've brought a friggin boatload of prospects. At least 3 weeks before trade deadline. Most people figured the team was ridiculously bad and that would have brought us a haul.
-
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 09:14 PM) It's brilliant to look like a total tool? Everyone knows he's lying. Not so fast, Crimson. When you have a perfect out as he does (saying you have to be deviant to think he meant her period) people can't really call him on this anymore. I mean no candidate wants to be called a deviant perv. I don't even think you'll hear much more about that. Writers won't go there anymore cause Trump has a perfect alibi. Ditto TV announcers. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) I believe that is where most of his appeal is coming from. There is a big PC backlash and it is somewhat refreshing to see someone go without a filter. I believe most people want SOMETHING done about illegal immigration and everyone else is afraid to talk about it unless they are kissing the amnesty crowd's asses, so when he goes off about deporting everyone and electrified fances etc., people like that they are hearing something for a change, even if it isn't something the wholeheartedly agree on. I agree Alpha. Personally I like hearing a guy with no filter (remember I LOVED Ozzie for the same reason; I love on that HBO show when Ozzie told the Marlins closer everybody including the owner and GM wanted him replaced and Ozzie was the only one who didn't think he was horses***). I do love the no filter. However, I'm sure I'll eventually tire of Trump as will most every Republican (unless those other candidates remain boring and un-watchable). Like I said I don't like the fact he has his ties made in China and as a crutch says he does it cause he's a businessman. He said when he wins he'll get it to where companies will want to move back to the USA, including his companies. I say f*** you. You could make your ties here right now and brag about it to other companies and you'd be a great American. He knows it's wrong to make his ties in China. To conclude ... as of now I love Trump being the un-PC contrarian. But deep down I do realize he's a bastard, cut-throat businessman and I won't vote for him.

Did anybody see Vacation? Was it so bad you walked out? Heard it was miserable-bad.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 02:06 AM) They get the Yankees again at home, or do you mean Boston? I think the nice weather generally helps as well. Weekend games, even with the team out of contention will get them at least 25, and sometimes around 30K if fireworks are in play. This weekend, they should do 100K for the Cubs series. Do you think if they continue to get clobbered in games leading to the Cub series they might only average about 25,000 to 28,000 per game? I'd think there definitely will be more Cub fans than Sox fans.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 01:26 AM) Man greg, for someone who calls Danks a good a** pitcher it sure is silly to say Shark is MAYBE an above average pitcher. Most hear know I love Danks too, so don't get me twisted. Danks is good 66% of the time whereas Shark is good 75% of time (just throwing random numbers out there). If you think Jeff is maybe slightly above average then there's no way you should think Danks is anything more than average. Your obsession with Melky's clown like behavior is also silly to me. Look at the teams like KC, San Fran, the Boston team that won the WS, Detroit with Miggy others. They all had fun and "Acted like clowns". That's huge to me, baseball is a longgggg grind, if you're not having fun out there, you're doing it wrong. Gimme a manager who is gonna keep players loose. That's all I care about. Let the hitting coach deal with the hitting and the pitching coach deal with the pitching. The only gripe i have with Robin is the long rope he has given LaRoach. I kinda get it because if he ever gets hot he can carry a team but it just doesn't look like its gonna happen Thanks. Great post! You are probably right about my comments. I guess I'd say Danks is an average pitcher and Shark an above average pitcher. OK, in today's market I'd say he's worth more like 13-15 million a year over 5 years (I sure hope the Sox don't sign him) than the 20-25 million a year he's going to get. That's just stupid. Granted, he pitched very well at times and may just be in a little funk. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 01:43 AM) It's a new generation of baseball. These guys chat and have fun. I don't have an issue as long as he's producing. I'll probably get off my angry kick now that the Sox are done getting whipped by the Royals again (damn I made the smart call in turning down those free tickets Sat and Sunday though Sat's tickets were REALLY good ones and free; and it was a perfect night for ball; i just couldnt stand the though of being with 3 royals fans and me the lone sox fan; you see I KNEW 100 percent we were gonna get swept). As far as the Melk-ster ... I don't remember Melky being this clown-ish before the Royals series. Maybe he was yukking it up with his former teammates more than usual. But it did piss me off. It seems like you need to concentrate more. Maybe he is concentrating since he did lash the game-tying hit. Maybe he concentrates at the plate then acts buffoon-ish only when he is safely on first or second or third. I'll probably get over that, but since the Royals announcers brought it up (I had to listen to them on radio since I had some work to do) as clownish it even made me more mad than normal.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) And while I'm on a roll...the "get a single, look at the dugout, stir it up, blow it up, blow it out your ass" thing they're doing is stupid too. Great post QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) I agree with this. Sick of the all the grab assing and antics. Maybe can start playing around when you are over .500 for once Great post. I said this in the game thread, but Melky jumping all over the Royals players and high fiving them after getting on base is hilarious (in a bad way of course). Melky is like the kid who plays for the 0-10 Little League team who gets on base against the 10-0 dominant team and tries to interact with the big bad opponent. Slap hands, hug 'em. The big bad opponent looks at him like, whatever dude, I'll slap your hand then continue to kick your ass. KC undefeated vs. Sox in Kauffman this season. LOL. Next time try to kiss one of the Royals, Melky. It's really a clown look.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) Any real emotion for this team went out the window for me when McEwing sent Alexei home last week. That was the nail in the coffin. Exactly. At that moment I gave up for good. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) Glass half full: the Sox were in every game. It's just typical of the season so far, finding ways to lose rather than finding ways to win. Royals find a way to win because they believe they are good enough to win a WS. Again, I'll take a .500 season. Get Sale and Shark back on track (do your f***ing job, Cooper) and there's a very good chance of that happening. Needle would be pointing up heading into next season. The most enjoyable part of this 2nd half so far has been the notion that Jeff Samardzija would somehow of brought a king's ransom in return for a trade. I do enjoy reading the lamentations of ST posters convinced that our farm system would somehow have been STOCKED by that trade to (?). Sox gambled and possibly lost. That's what they do, they roll the dice. But if they don't find a way to start winning in the next few weeks, it won't be a debilitating loss. Glass half empty here. First of all, you are wrong about Shark's trade value. If we would have traded him when I was calling for it (during one of those horrific streaks the team had in May or June, I forget) we'd have gotten a LOT for Shark. He was pitching well at one point. Teams were scouting him and he was doing well. Sox waited and now he's a total hack and worthless. If anybody pays him over 8 mill a year for 3-4 years they are nutso. He's just another body. Maybe a slightly above average pitcher ... maybe. Good luck getting your .500 season. I think Melky's clownlike behavior proves Sox heads are not in the game (Soto's baserunning). How come the Bulls can get rid of a great coach like thibs and the Sox can't pull the trigger on a lousy coaching staff and get rid of Robin?? Makes no sense. GIMME GARDY. GIMME A VETERAN MANAGER.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Cabrera giving Hosmer a high five? Harrelson must be ready to have a coronary...that whole modern day fraternization thing on the field drives him nuts. Melky is a clown disgracing the game of baseball. Please, White Sox, get rid of him. He's like the guy on the lousy team trying to get the players on the good team to notice him. Meanwhile the guys on the good team continue to stomp on the lousy players like Melky. He is a buffoon and this series has made a mockery of COMPETITION. Get rid of him!!

Trump is so funny. He went on all the Sunday shows and refused to apologize. And he turned it around perfectly in saying only a "deviant" would think he was referring to Kelly having her period. He said he was going to say blood out the nose or ears. He's the best. He's in the midst of his 15 minutes of fame (regarding the presidential election; I realize he's had way more than 15 minutes of fame in real life). People are going to tire of him and he is going to fall obviously. You know, if he was truly smart he'd drop out the moment another Republican candidate starts to creep up to him in the polls. Drop out before the inevitable fall. I guess it's possible those other candidates are so bad, so boring, so ordinary that he gets the nomination. But my gut is telling me people are LOVING somebody speaking his mind and not acting like a politician but ULTIMATELY Trump and his wild hairdo will start to bore a populace that likes to move on to the next great thing. As far as today ... I think it's great he won again. He won't apologize and has turned the Kelly controversy around perfectly saying if you think he meant Kelly having a period you are "deviant" Brilliant!

Medlen stinks so the Sox may not be completely buried yet.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) Had their chances. Hopefully when the Sox get good again they learn how to sweep bad teams like the Royals are doing again to the Sox. One of the problems in the Oz era and Robin era was we'd win two and lose the Sunday game. I hope when the Sox get good again they learn how to sweep people.

QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) 1) Doesn't surprise me. All it means is that Sox hitters may be physically talented, but they are also having problems in selfish attitude, coachability and/or lacking in smarts or the attention-span, to implement Steverson's sage advice in practice. 3) It still means Steverson is responsible for his part of overall failure. Re. 1) Also a lot of our players are not that talented. 3. I tend to blame players more than coaches but I do think Steverson is no better than Walker and Walker was the devil to many fans.
-
Our bad baseball team is so predictable (except for the 7-1 road trip). Sox are a bad bad baseball team that a struggling Royals team swept with ease. Now that it doesn't matter we'll probably hit a Royals batter when we should have hit one in the opener.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) Team is bad yet Hahn to dumb to see it. Once Cub series is over I hope the cell is ghost town the brass deserves nothing less. I don't think Hahn is dumb. They just made the easy, wrong decision about a White Flag sale. The Sox thought they were in the wild card race but these players showed their true colors right after the trade deadline. Granted it's now a fireable offense NOW to not have known 7-1 vs Cleveland and Boston meant nothing. Hahn also should be fired for the Melky/LaRoche acquisitions in the offseason, but they are not necessarily "dumb." Some people liked the acquisitions. We also really didn't need Robertson. Could have done closer by committee again.
-
QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) Those 3-2 hacks are WAY too big. Just dumb baseball 101. Yes but most hitters today are taking the same hacks on 3-2 as any count. Again, it's not just Eaton, whom I'm not a big fan of, but it's a disease in baseball today. Many (most) hitters swing from their heels with two strikes. Pete Rose was talking about that. It's macho s***.

QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Aug 9, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) 1) That's because Coop has always had so much sheer TALENT to work with. Vazquez, Buerhle, Garland, Freddy, Colon, Contreras, Edwin Jackson, Liriano, Sale, Samardja, Quintana, Danks, Javy Vazquez, 2005 version of Brandon McCarthy just to name a few off the top of head... are you effin' kidding me! And also because he once upon a time was probably a decent coach, with some strengths, no doubt. Just not the demigodly guru that he is to most Sox fans/commentators. 2) Sale is not necessarily hurt, though he is high risk for it obviously. It's just that as most other Don Cooper proteges, Chris Sale doesn't do well under big pressure. He will overwhelm you with sheer velocity and late movement, but if his back is under a wall, his focus will occasionally wane, his mechanics go out of whack, his breaking ball hangs inside, his change-up is tipped off.... you get the point. It's also why the whole "double-digit strike-out streak" was so friggin' stupid. WHO CARES! All it did was cause Sale to overthrow and over-stress his arm. Even the big innings like the 4th in Minnesota or the 6th in Boston happen because of the usueless trivia pressure to K batters. Fans and even managers care about trivia nonsense way too much IMO. Toronto is not the team Sox are chasing for final WC spot. It's the declining Angels since Pujols juice revival can only take him so far. Trout, too, Cmon. Your Coop criticism is a little out of hand. He's not the devil. I may not like him much, personality wise, but you are acting like he's Bevington. The pitchers deserve some of the scorn, most of the scorn.
