  1. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) The paper says Diamond is a Lefty. The wikipedia says he's a lefty as well
  2. I'd be shocked if Lucy doesn't stay on the roster with rosters expanding tomorrow And with him it does allow Flowers to stay in as DH since we'd have a backup just in case on the bench still
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) Mark Gonzales tweets AFL names Josh Phegley, Brandon Short, Tyler Saladino and Terry Doyle. Other than Saladino being a possibility I pretty much whiffed on who they would send, but as Kevin Goldstein mentioned, roster turnover is common from now to the season. What's up with the AFL 2 or whatever it's called with the younger guys? I know it was in trial the past couple years. Kinda disappointed we're not sending Gilmore and/or Martinez.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) How did that work out last night ? About as expected
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) The Dodgers, Giants and Padres are not good offenses? Some of the worst actually
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) Nobody loves Kershaw more than I do. But Strasbrug's a generational talent. Dude throws a 100 MPH FB and it's arguably his second best pitch. But saying Strasburg is penciled in for the next 5 CY when the league features Halladay, Lee, Kershaw, Lincecum, then young Braves hurlers, Josh Johnson etc... is a bit much
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) Are De Aza and Lillibridge everyday players and can Lillibridge play SS or even 3B? I believe De Aza is, but I don't think Lilli is, although I recognize it could be possible. He could play 3B or SS in a pinch but shouldn't be relied on much there
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) Last time I checked, neither the Tigers or White Sox were known for their second half runs. I get that we just swept a god awful Mariners team and won last night against a Twins team that I don't even recognize. But we've seen this movie before. They're going to HAVE to beat Detroit. And when I say that I'm talking a minimum of 5-1 against them and play pretty much lights out against everybody else. I think 4-2 would also be fine, especially if they can make up one more game before the series this weekend. Their schedule down the stretch is very favorable with them all of a sudden playing the Twins like they are the Indians. What scares me is having to play Toronto to close out the year.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) Maybe that $4 million could've been spent on the draft? And it was a terrible move. A washed up steroid abuser, one who had been on the DL multiple times? Just sign Thome for $1 million and there's no need for Manny. Wasn't the Manny acquisition a JR push though? I don't know, I'm asking. I just thought that was an exception, it wasn't as if that was $4M extra laying around there.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) That's a fair question. I'd be more willing to give him another year without Ozzie to see how the team responds. As would I. He's had some good moves as well, it's just that most of his poor decisions have all come recently. But with the Ozzie factor, I'd really like to see what happens with him gone and KW more free to do what he'd like.
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) I'm loving the youth movement, but I'm not counting on them in pulling us over the Tigers. I'm not counting on it either, but I also am not going to discount the possibility. The team has been actually enjoyable to watch the past few days, the pitching is hot, the young players are playing well, Dunn has finally been benched, Rios appears to be on his way there as well, the Tigers pitching outside of Verlander remains suspect and the Tigs blew it down the stretch just 2 years ago in almost the exact same situation. I'm sure Tigers fans haven't started printing out playoff tickets yet.
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) Oh, Im sorry, were these teams built just like the Sox, along with all the same external factors? Do they have better, worse, or the same talent/leadership/management/coaches? The White Sox might have the best pitching of the group. And with good pitching anything can happen.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) I spent two seconds and thought about the Sox this year and their inability to win consistently after getting to .500. It also appears that we have seen the last of regular playing time for Dunn and Rios (once CQ is back). That fact alone should be reason for optimism.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:09 PM) I'm pretty sure he'd hit like first half Juan Pierre. Defense can only go so far. Probably wouldn't hurt to have another PR/defensive replacement though if we're still in it
  15. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Why is Floyd listed in the title? He pitched a great game and is only 28???
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:21 AM) I agree about DeAza . I know Balta was clamoring for him a lot. So he gets credit for that but the speed, the extra base power the hustle the fielding even can bunt . I know small sample size but he looks pretty damn good. Balta and I have been highly supportive of De Aza ever since he was signed last year. The guy has never really been given a legit chance at the major league level. He unexpectedly won the Marlins starting CF job over a couple of their top prospects a few years ago and got off to a great start before suffering a bad ankle injury. He never really recovered from that and didn't get an extended look ever since. He is a good defensive player, has good wheels, puts the bat on the ball and has pretty decent gap to gap power. The reason the Marlins gave up on him is because they had a bunch of talent in the OF or coming up whom they were higher on (Maybin, Hermida, Stanton, Coghlan, Willingham). I was willing to even give him Pierre's role at the start of the season. He still has to prove he can keep this up over a full year, but I've always liked what I've seen in him going all the way back to watching him with the Marlins.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) Again, we had options this year to lessen the blow (i.e., start batting Dunn lower in the lineup, bring up De Aza & Viciedo, etc.) That's the most frustrating part. Not that we had players performing well under expectations, because that can happen to any team for no apparent reason, but that we had the pieces and options to attempt to do something about it and better ourselves and seemingly just played ignorant and chose not to.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 08:58 AM) I think this looks like it could be pretty good. Definitely an interesting concept
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:02 AM) How can you not love Oz? What a character! I can't wait until he goes to Florida and we're back to boring zombies like Manuel and Bevington. I want him gone. We'll appreciate him more when he's gone. How can a World Series manager be so bad? I'll never get it. I do think it's time for him to go. Back to boring old managers. I see what you did there.
  20. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:11 AM) I'm with Dan on this one. Me too. Look at the roster for Bristol. There have been worse players there this year. And at the end of the day, it's rookie ball. Really not a big deal at all
  21. I'm upstate now and we're supposed to get around 7-8 inches of rain starting in a few hours and lasting until Monday. About 300,00 have been told to evacuate from Brooklyn and the surrounding areas
  22. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Andre Drummond to join UConn for 2011 season. They are just about at the level of UNC and Kentucky now. Their frontline is nasty. Saw that last night. Ecstatic. In my mind they are now a better team than last year. I'd keep UNC at pre-season #1 but I'd vault UCONN over UK. Even more excited for the college basketball season to get under way again now
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) And by watching, you make that human garbage rich. I don't even find it entertaining. I don't seek it out, but if I find myself in a room with people watching it I'll watch. It can be entertaining just to watch the extreme douchebaggery they display.
