QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) I would bet that most of the crime that has been on the downfall has been petty crimes and organized crime. It seems at least 3-4 times a week now, you can turn on the news and hear about some crazy stuff like this happening all over the country. Really?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Disorderly conduct, a fine, 1 year probation. I don't see getting beaten and spending two years at taxpayer's expense, in a federal prison. What would you expect? If an American spit at the leader of Russia or China I would absolutely expect jail time. The respective countries would probably say it was a humiliating act to their country and was a sign of disrespect. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) Basically it doesn't seem to rise to the level of assault in my estimation. I can't think of anyone doing hard time for throwing a shoe. From what I read, the charges all stemmed from insulting, and that just seems wrong to give someone two years for what is tantamount to flipping him off. Just curious about what you think here. What do you think would happen to an American charged with spitting on the leader of a China/Russia/North Korea/Cuba/Palestine/Canada type country during an official visit of theirs to our country? -

Iraqi "journalist" throws shoes at Bush

QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) A good analogy would be a foreign President demanding a US citizen be jailed for flipping him off while he is here in the US. Imagine if the President of Turkey expected Turkish laws be followed in the US while he is here. Again, from what I am reading, where it happened, which is the point of the conversation, it is the equivalent of flipping someone off and not a jailable offense. Are you suggesting that US laws should be enforced around the world? No it wouldnt. Throwing an object at someone and making a gesture are not the same thing. Spitting at someone is an insult. Throwing your shoes at someone is an insult in Arab countries. Who cares what it is the equivalent of? If throwing gum at someone in Iraq was the equivalent of punching someone in the face here should they be judged the same way too? So? I'd be willing to bet assault is assault in pretty much every country around the world and that assault is not just a US law. Furthermore, when has Bush demanded that that Iraqi citizen be jailed? I havent seen that or heard that anywhere. From what I remember, didnt GWB say it wasnt a big deal? -

QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 08:34 AM) Bush was in a foreign country where their traditional insult is to throw a shoe. The shoe is clearly not meant to cause physical harm and you would not be imprisoned for doing that to a random person. If a visiting President was here, do the laws and customs of his country apply, or the US? It was assault. Assault does not fall under the grounds of freedom of speech. Period. You want a good analogy? What if someone spits on the president while in the US? You think they are just gonna be allowed to walk away without any repercussion? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) Like it or not this was the right thing to do. This one is arguably significantly more less important of a step than the bailout of the banks. Fixed. These two are not even remotely related.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) It's officially my first ever Ice Storm day. Won't be leaving the house tonight I think. Hopefully the Subways don't get delayed or anything. The subways should be fine depending on where you want/need to go

I may leave at lunch...depends on when NY starts to get hit with this storm

QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 08:09 AM) Imagine what a message it would be to the rest of the world if Bush spoke about freedom of speech, of being able to protest in a democracy. [/color] Freedom of speech and throwing objects at a head of state are not the same thing. Imagine the outrage if someone throws a shoe at Obama during his inauguration. -
QUOTE (Shadows @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) While I think the story is bogus and it doesn't really matter, I must add this.. You are kidding yourself if you thought Heath Ledger was going to be a badass Joker when it was announced he got that part. I didnt. But I dont know how I could see Eddie Murphy portraying a darker version of the Riddler (assuming for now that thats the direction they will go) and take him seriously. JMO.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) I read something pretty interesting today, where some teams just don't know how the weakened economy will affect them, and teams with big-time players who are well-paid may have to give these players up for pennies on the dollar during the season. It would mean a couple things for the White Sox. First, if they plan on trading a guy like JD and expect to get anything for him, they probably need to do it before the season starts. Also, the good news, after 2009, they really don't have very mucthey should be able to acquire.h in guaranteed money on their books. They may be in a position to acquire one or two or a few of these players. Huh?

Nolan has stated that he would not introduce Robin until many films in, if at all, since this about a younger Batman. Also, do you really think they would introduce three major characters into the next film? I think its a bit much. Plus, with the way the Joker was portrayed in a darker fashion, wouldnt it lead you to believe that the Riddler would be written similarly? I just dont buy that Eddie Murphy would be able to pull that off and doubt that Nolan would either. I wouldnt mind Rachel Weisz as Catwoman though. Not my first choice, but she's on the short list.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) So Adolf and his family were the only Hitlers? Doesn't seem possible. Quick someone get me a German phone directory....wait he was Austrian, no? Oh i doubt that...i was just responding to someone who mentioned the actual Hitler line of the famous one.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) i saw somethign about this on the History channel and I guess they are all in hiding, changed names and such. don't remember all the details though. He changed his name and it was never disclosed what to. That man had 3 sons (Hitler's nephews) and the three vowed never to have children (and have not) so as to discontinue the Hitler line. I think 2 of them are left or something like that. I read it somewhere but can not remember where.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) So I just took out the trash, and it was leaking because some asshole put a non-empty cup of coffee in the trash can. If I catch someone doing that, it's an automatic kick in the balls. I sometimes do that with soup if I happen to buy it in the cafeteria and dont finish it.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) So what's the deal with Rocco? I havent really followed him at all. Statistically he had a great rookie year, and his sophomore year wasnt too bad either. Since then, he's barely played. I dont know his story. Enlighten me. He's been just riddles with injuries and then there was that mitochondrial disease report. He possesses boatloads of pure talent though, and while he almost assuredly will never reach what was his maximum potential a few years back, he still has a pretty nice upside if he could remain healthy. I'd be all for KW offering him a deal with a ton of incentives in it.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Those two for a closer would be a legendary move if KW could pull it off. Except that the idea is beyond ridiculous and doesnt have a chance in hell of ever happening

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) LOL. I wonder if anyone puts "Warcraft Clan Leader" on their resume. Whats worse, putting that or leaving out the Warcraft (or any other game part) and just putting Clan Leader. haha

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) I now 100% want the Sox to sign Rocco Baldelli. That. Also, this is just great news for him and his family. I can't remember if KW has alwyas had his eye on him or not, but I hope he makes a play for him
