  1. Acuna has been hitting fine, and he does it again there
  2. Mune doesn't have his timing fully back and still gets IBB'd Vargas punishes the audacity of TEX thinking he's an easier matchup
  3. They'd need another catcher even if it's a 1-2 week thing, it's not a position you can wait out a series or two with.
  4. The Beni analysis in this thread is missing his xTAPE metric
  5. Solid work from Fedde, hope he can go one more at least
  6. Maybe should have sent him in the first inning too, but I'll take it
  7. If the injury wasn't bad enough, Tigers and Guards are both facing BP today while the Sox have to face deGrom
  8. Provided he can demonstrate some health/production over the next couple weeks, I wonder where he finishes the season.
  9. The boys got into Texas just after 7:30 PM local, so plenty of time for a good night's rest. The Rangers had a shorter flight coming in from their loss in Atlanta, but the Braves worked their pen a bit (5 relievers threw behind Eovaldi last night) so we'll have a rest advantage there at least. DeGrom is having (another) good year, with 8 quality starts in 18 tries. He's gone 5+ IP in 15/18, allowed 3 ER or fewer in 14/18, and recorded 5+ K's in 15/18. If you want to be optimistic, he's actually been worse in his 3 starts with extended rest this season. The handful of games where he's been roughed up have involved him giving up multiple HRs, which the Sox lineup is capable of when clicking. He allows most of his HRs to LHB (10/16), but has slight reverse splits this year thanks to an effective changeup. He's also been pretty elite at home (2.51 ERA, .518 OPS against), so the best bet might be just hoping to see enough pitches that he doesn't go 6+. He did miss his last start with a glute strain, so maybe TEX is more cautious with his workload tonight.
  10. Marte pitched a scoreless inning with 2 K, Cardozo struck out in his 1 AB, and Romero had an RBI groundout for what ended up being the decisive run in a 7-6 win for the AL. Alternatively, having only one team means you still have to find playing time for the lagging players instead of prioritizing the best performers. The Padres have a team that's 25-9, and the other is 7-26. There are also teams with two solid teams (Giants are 20-14 and 19-14) or two bad teams (Red Sox are 11-21 and 10-22). Just not really much correlation either way when you're developing teenagers for the most part.
  11. Hays is 31 and expiring, Pereira is 25 and a rookie. The injuries have sucked, but not enough to not bet on the youth and team control if they are otherwise comparable. They've also been acute "playing hard" injuries (cleat caught in the wall padding, concussion on a tough catch) rather than the soft tissue stuff that can become recurrent like Hays' hammy/calf. Pereira playing all 3 OF spots also makes him less redundant with Grichuk than Hays would be.
  12. First one back would get Perez' spot, yeah I hope it's Pereira so we can make sure he stays healthy for a bit before having to make a decision on Hays
  13. Hays (LF) and Pereira (DH) both in the lineup for Charlotte today
  14. Cleveland game went final, so it's a 1 game lead for the Sox. 5 teams within 4 games of a WC spot though, including DET and MIN
