5/2 Sox @ Padres - 7:40PM CT
They started 9 RHH vs. Schultz in game 1, though I think normally they keep at least Merrill in. But Padres haven't been great against LHP (<.600 OPS) despite being very RHH heavy by default. Kikuchi went 6IP 0 ER 8K against them in his only scoreless start of the year (not counting the one he left early in Chicago).

Wait, how many is that? Second longest active W streak in MLB. Win #16 comes three weeks ahead of last years pace (5/23) and more than a calendar month (!!!) ahead of 2024 (6/7). Hat tip to Burke for an excellent start and to the offense for doing just enough in a tough road match up. 9-9 road record now. Hudson has been nails. 14 straight scoreless outings. Seranthony earning his pay by stranding the bases loaded to preserve the shutty. 8 saves would have led last year's team...It's the first week of May. Also a game to build on for Quero, with a timely RBI hit and crucial challenges down the stretch. He's still the youngest non-rookie catcher in the league, he'll keep growing. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, what a solid series win.

5/2 Sox @ Padres - 7:40PM CT
For those who asked last time why they didn't leave him in that other game after a quick inning...he has struggled in multi-inning relief even when he breezes through the first one.

Most days you'd never guess he's not a primary 1B with a few years of experience over there.

Yeah, let him leave with clean line. Especially with the pen rested.

Looked like he couldn't get it out of his glove cleanly

The way this game played out forced some tough choices for SD. 2 runs is way too close to concede with their lesser pen arms who have been scuffling, but they also don't want to waste the top 3 when trailing. So they try to push King...and Sox take advantage.

Sandlin with 4K through an efficient 3 innings facing the minimum (had a groundball single erased by a CS) Sitting 97, getting whiffs on the breaking stuff, throwing strikes so far.- 5/2 Sox @ Padres - 7:40PM CT
King throws sinker/changeup/sweeper/4seam with an occasional slider. The fastballs are mid, but the other stuff is plus. He hasn’t given up much in two home starts vs. DET and SEA (2 runs total), but probably should have been punished more for 6 walks and 3 hit batters in 11 innings. He’s gotten lucky against lefties, allowing a .454 OPS to LHB that’s carried by an unsustainably low .163 BABIP. Not historically a reverse splits guy, so maybe the Sox can dish out some regression. SD will have their Plan A pen arms available, so scratching out a couple against King is likely their best chance.- 2026 AL Central Watch

Jon Greenberg for The Athletic Not wanting to distract Mune with more contract talks right away and/or pressure him with a new bigger number to perform up to so soon seems like Getz' go to response for now. Second or third time he's said some variant of "we're just letting him settle in."- Munemania: AL Rookie of the Month of May
Pretty good company- At what point do Murakami and Colson get a joint/duo-nickname?
