But the Sox make plenty more questionable to bad decisions all the time.

Even with Baldwin around, the Amaya DFA is what made me lose hope that Montgomery wouldn’t be on the opening day roster. Amaya was the one true SS the Sox had on the roster. Meanwhile, Rojas will no doubt be starting at 3B.

Yep, DFA in early May 2016. The Sox ate a little over $13 million of his remaining $14.25 salary for 2016.

Dallas Keuchel’s DFA on May 28, 2022, and what was remaining of the final year of his contract and $18 million salary. The Sox ate roughly $14.1 million that Keuchel was still owed for the remainder of the 2022 season. Hays and Lorenzen are/were good examples of flippable FA targets that should be within the Sox spending range. But it sure seems like anything above $3 million is too rich for Jerry’s blood this offseason.
