Schriffen says he was aiming at “Sportscasters”
He’s a company man now. He is milking that gig of his. He knows he can get away with being a dick to his partner and take “convenient” breaks from west coast trips.

Wilson to Charlotte for rehab trip
Third time this year! ? He should thank his lucky stars that the Sox at least have a place for him, cuz no one else wants him.

Rosenthal column on Grifol...
He let them make trades at the deadline and cut them loose right at the end of the season. Really strange. I trust you guys to sell our players but not to continue after that.

Padres into Garret Crochet
Well, if by “finishers” you mean vets at the end of their careers… ?

This. We all joke that Hahn loved signing relievers but this is likely the reason he did sign so many. The dollar range of contracts Hahn was approved to offer was probably in the range of a non-closing relievers, so he just tried to advantage of the free agent players he could actually sign in his price range.

It also matches Reinsdorf’s feelings about the players association having too much power in the game and thinking that individual players make too much money via free agency. He has such a grudge because of this that he refuses to pay out a big deal to a star player and would rather go the route of paying a few guys the same amount as one true difference-maker. It almost always ends up in wasted money, but he is too stubborn to admit it.

Exactly. $75 million is no longer “top player” money. It’s not even premium talent money. It’s more like Tier C free agent money these days. It’s how you end up with guys like Keuchel and Benintendi and looking to eat the rest of their contracts after a year or two.

What's the point?
R H? That must be Rick Hahn’s burner account right?

I prefer to say, Reinsdorf lets his GM spread out money on a bunch of mediocre free agents that aren’t difference-makers. It’s the worst strategy ever.

Only two teams have never signed a free agent to a contract larger than $75 million. It’s us and a team that has to relocate. How can this even be argued?

Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
Getz knows the org. We can expect to be back to .500 next season.

6/5 Sux @ Flubs 7:05PM CT
He probably could. I haven’t heard Lip’s voice but he probably has more historical Sox knowledge located in his left nut than Schriffen has in his entire body. ?

But remember what Kenny said — if Machado had reached all of the incentives included in the Sox offer, he would have had the opportunity to make more money than the fully guaranteed contract that the Padres ultimately signed him to! ??? This is why you can’t trust the Sox in any of their shady and ridiculous free agent negotiations. They are either morons and truly thought their offer was better than the Padres or they are outright liars to the fans. Clowns, either way. ?

6/5 Sux @ Flubs 7:05PM CT
I heard this last night and I know he is pandering to Sox fans but it came across as too fake. He may have just become a Sox fan when he got the job but the dude is from New York. He was likely a Yankees or Mets fan growing up. I know this is a bit petty to make fun of him about but he tries too hard sometimes. He doesn’t need to be an outright homer like Hawk. Hawk at least earned his homer rights by being here for so long.

Agreed, but JR isn’t going that route. Like @Dick Allen always reminds us, Getz was chosen because he knew the system and it wouldn’t take him a full year to get ramped into the GM position, like an outside GM candidate would’ve required. Well, after this season we now see that this would’ve been the better route to take since Getz ended up wasting a season anyways.

Agreed, but I think he would want more than $40 million through 2028 at this point and I doubt the Sox would be the willing risk takers in this situation. If the price was $40 million through 2028, the Sox should probably jump on that regardless of where they are in their rebuild. Hell, they already waste $20+ million a year in the offseason anyways so that would be a risk worth taking. But just imagine if Crochet is truly over his injury issues with how little mileage there has been on his arm, and this is truly the guy he is now? The Padres are definitely more of a team willing to take on this risk, and there’s not often a 24 year old potential lefty ace available, even on the trade market. With the questions around Crochet — injuries, potential innings limit for this year, and lack of this kind of success until this year — I wonder how much this will impact the return on him in a trade. He is truly a boom or bust type acquisition for some team. Like acquiring a much younger Carlos Rodon.

The Dumpster Diving continues...
I saw that he cut out of his deal with the Mariners and I was totally expecting this one. Wasn’t he one of Boston’s top prospects along with Kopech?

The Sox won’t be likely to improve if they keep them either, unless we get a new owner soon that throws around money in free agency.
-
Rosenthal column on Grifol...
Yeah, I wouldn’t buy it even if Kap said he had a source. If JR hasn’t fired Grifol already, why would he finally do it now? I don’t see it happening until the end of the season.

Maldonado an All Star? Make it happen
- Padres into Garret Crochet
If Crochet had no confidence in his ability to stay healthy until free agency and the Sox liked him enough to offer him a pretty big extension. But I doubt either side feels this way.- **Water-Cooler Thread (TV stuff)**
Agreed, the ending was truly a bit disappointing but the entire series as a whole was the best show I’ve seen in awhile. It should win some sort of award or several. The cinematography was insane. Agreed. I never watched it during its original run but binged it recently on Netflix and it is one of my favorite series of all time. Netflix just announced that they are doing a Peaky Blinders film with Cillian Murphy returning…- **Water-Cooler Thread (TV stuff)**
I’ve watched it and will watch the next (third) season when it comes out this fall. Good show if you like sci-fi horror. They seem to be drawing it out a bit though. At this point I just want to know what the truth is with all the crazy things happening. Agreed. The last episode was the least funny. Haha, you nailed it. I was wondering what was so weird about him being in it. It was basically modern day Patton Oswalt not even acting, just being himself.- Grifol on his future...
Getz will only know what to do when JR tells him.- Fire Pedro Grifol
Now he’s reversing course after the flat comments and the players disagreeing with him. What a snake. He is just trying to say anything to save his job. - Padres into Garret Crochet
