  1. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) I think Rogan mentioned that he walks around at about 190 regularly. Either way, another poor showing for Hughes and as an anti-Hughes guy I could care less. You probably won't have to see him around too much anymore. I wouldn't be shocked if he retires after the Serra fight. In a good old fashioned grudge match way I'm interested in the Hughes/Serra fight.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) I found it really boring for some reason. i'm just glad Vera lost. It was stopped early but Werdum was going to win anyways. Vera was outclassed on the ground and I think is really overrated. I think his best shot is at 205. He was about 228 for this fight, but he's too small for heavyweight IMO.
  3. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) Hughes TKO'd in the 2nd round...well I guess he's got that fight with Serra to look forward to. Bisping again....VERY dominant. Swick with a nice victory. Marquardt and Leites had the fight of the night, but if Dean doesn't call that elbow to the "back of the head" Nate wins, they've gotta have a rematch. Dan Miragliotta must of thought he was still in New Jersey due to the premature stoppage of the Vera/Werdum fight. Entertaining card overall. for all the injuries and other reasons this turned out to be an entertaining card. Alves was WAY too big for Hughes to have much of a shot. If he tried to cut and got to 174 he has to be around 180-185 when the fight started. That Marquardt/Leites match was awesome. Leites was a beast. Yeah, Nate would have one if the second point wasn't deducted, but Leites was out from that illegal knee. The Wiman/Tavares fight was great. The card needed a few undercard fights to come through to make it worth it, and those two fights delivered.
  4. UFC on PPV tonight or in the afternoon. Since it is in England they will show it live and then on tape delay. Not the greatest name card, but still a chance for some good fights. The Vera/Werdum fight is interesting, winner of that will be pushed in the HW division. Hughes/Alves is main-event, Alves weighed in at 174, but Hughes took the fight anyway. Card got destroyed with numerous injuries, was supposed to be headlined by Liddell/Shogun, then Liddell/Evans, Bisping/Leben was suppose to happen put Leben had to do some jail for a probation violation. So not the greatest card on paper, but worth getting if you can get 4 people to pitch in or go to a bar.
  5. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) That's a pretty good hike for a hole in the wall chinese joint. A few of my friends who lived in Hinsdale and that area would be in the Lombard area all the time, if there's not a ton of traffic 83 isn't that bad
  6. QUOTE (The Beast @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Didn't they ban the Homer Simpson vs. New York episode because of 9/11? i may have been imagining, but I could have sworn I've seen it since 9/11
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Which has been so typical the last few years when they win the first 2 of a series.... I miss Chris Widger and Pablo in my starting lineup although with Crede's wrist maybe we'll get a Pablo sighting!!
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) I was there (for all 15 innings, what a strange game) and we guessed it was 475 feet, so 464 seems about right. However, outside of Adam Dunn hitting one into the Ohio River, that was easily the longest home run I've ever seen in person, and it makes me question whether Borchard's ball actually went 504 feet. It almost seems humanely impossible. I am horrible at guessing distances, but I watched the Borchard video and went to a game and stood where he hit it, it was a freakin' long ways away.
  9. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) I'll be there tonight with my dog out in the bleachers. My dog's Pick to Click: Paul Konerko. ah yes, dog night. My sister and brother-in-law have a beagle and they've brought him the last 2-3 years and he's a big hit with the players who are milling around during the onfield parade. I love this promotion, not going tonight though.
  10. well, a few of the mock drafts I saw basically said the Sox would love for Beckham to fall to them, and he did! Let's hope he will be a White Sox player for a LOOOONG time
  11. I would have to go back and look at an episode guide, but there's been a falloff. I was a HUGE Simpson's fan since it was a short on Tracy Ullman. I was in about 5th grade and I still remember my sister and I getting super excited because the The Simpsons were going to have their own X-mas special. I can't quite put my finger on it, certainly the pushing of Lisa to the forefront in many episodes was annoying and aren't very good episodes IMO. Probably also when it became self aware and they started all the little cracks about other things in past episodes, etc... That said, there have still been a few episodes a year that are good, so I will keep paying attention, just not to the level I once did. Personally, my favorite episode is when the Isotopes win the championship and the kids get a curfew. It is hysterical and my favorite episode.
  12. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) This is a game a team that wants to be thought of as something needs to win in convincing fashion. KC has hit more than 10% of their season's home run total in this series. with the weather heating up and playing more games at the Cell this month, the pitchers are obviously going to give up a lot more HRs, but the Sox players should hit more. The key for the Sox pitchers is to not walk anybody. Danks gave up 2 HRs yesterday, but only solo shots
  13. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) Mantle never hit one 600 feet, and there's no story out there that he did. He is alleged to have hit one 564, but that is not true. Bill Jenkinson spoke to the person who found the ball, and he says that he found the ball, and walked away with it, but not all that far. When someone came to look for it, they assumed that where they found him was where the ball landed. Mantle's was over 500, but closer to 530 than 564. Nowhere near 600, and no one has ever hit it, although there is some speculation -- notably by Bill Jenkinson, who is the only authority on Distance Homeruns -- that Ruth hit one. So, Mantle was amazing, and so's Ruth and so's Thome. Interestingly, guys like Bonds and Sosa are not genuine tape-measure homerun hitter (Bonds has never hit one 500 feet, and Sosa's only 500 foot homeruns were with the wind blowing way out at Wrigley). I mean, they're both good homerun hitters enhanced by steroids, but they don't belong in the same class as these guys for distance: Ruth Williams Mantle Foxx Dick Allen Reggie Jackson Adam Dunn Kingman Thome Stargell Those are just guys off the top of my head who are very, very powerful hitters in terms of sheer distance, according to Jenkinson who has logged all homeruns and ranked power hitters by pure power. Interestingly, according to him, only Dick Allen has had comparable oppo-power to Ruth. He has hit some ridiculous bombs. For pure distance, Sexson has hit some insane bombs too. The one he hit against the Cubs when he was with the D'Backs to center field was crazy.
  14. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) a larger number of haters on the espn article message board. If atlanta can get the games, I don't see why we can't. deadspin always posts the espn.com comment of the day that espn puts on the main page, it's 99% hysterical. It's either some ridiculous not-based-in-fact opinion or the blatant stating of the obvious
  15. not a bad deal if they have him at AAA starting. It's hard to count on all 5 starters to make every single start and the only real backup was Massett for a spot start or Broadway for a DL stint. Maybe they even have Broadway start above E-Lo if needed, but no harm in having a veteran down in AAA
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) For sure. The problem with this move also is this: What is Joba going to start, 20 games? Let's say if they had a generic guy starting those games (just throw out any BS name), they'd have gone like 8-12 maybe? They are 0-1 so far with Joba, and I'll say for the sake of argument they'll go 14-6 in his starts (and that's optimistic IMO). They will lose AT LEAST six, maybe more games, due to his not being there late in the game. Hell, one of them was on Monday night at Minnesota IMO. So not only is it dumb in the sense that he's made to pitch late in games, it's dumb by the numbers too. He got off to a rough start tonight. BTW, Jay Bruce is 3-7 in the Philly series and his average has dropped 39 points. Love that. In full agreement, the way their staff is built now it's going to hurt them more than help them this year. The bridge to Mariano is very bad now, and Mussina and Petite are not going to throw many CGs or go 8 and while Joba builds up he will be going 4-6 innings. Do they play the Tigers before Rodney or Zumya get back? Those might be some interesting 6-8 innings in those games.
  17. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/base...ex.html?eref=T1 SI has the Sox taking Smoak since the SS isn't there. Saying KW was scouting the ACC games
  18. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) Get Greene out of PETCO and he'd actually be pretty good offensively. He's always had pretty good away splits over his career IIRC. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?n1=greenkh01 he has about 40 points difference in his OPS+ between home and away, he is an above average hitting SS away and a below average hitting SS at home. Damn.
  19. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...4002/1051/rss16 Detroit Free Press article says Bulls don't have much interest in Saunders. Not main point of article and no real source to it, but it's out there
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Are you sure it's not this place? that's where they stayed when they were honing their "grinder" image
  21. Fisk use to work out at the same gym I did, saw him there a few times, nice enough to me. Giaradi use to work out there all the time, he was an extremely nice guy
  22. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9...;show_article=1 Jimmy Carter to endorse Obama tonight... you know, now that the supers made their choice and the primaries are over, so he's basically endorsing him over McCain. Unless there's some Hillarly holdouts that will take his endorsement to mean something
  23. When Frank Thomas lived in Oakbrook he would go to the mall and to the movie theater there all the time. I would see him a lot since I worked at the theater. Very nice guy to the staff and all the fans who would come up to him.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) CNN update on McAuliffe's denial. You have to read beyond the bluster, and see some key words there - that Obama doesn't have the numbers, YET. So of course he is saying this. When he does have the numbers, tonight or tomorrow, you'll see Clinton do some sort of concession. Unfortunately, it will probably be half-ass and petty, like everything else in her campaign has been. She won't endorse. yeah of course not. I imagine she hopes McCain beats Obama and then she can trash him for the next 4 years so she looks good in 2012 Any idea on what Obama would do if he loses to McCain? Would he stay in the Senate or would he try for gov of Il? I imagine Blago doesn't have another run in him
