  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) The O's offered 5 and 65 iirc. Still, we got quite the deal with Paul considering todays market. no doubt. Especially after the power years he had and his playoff performance
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) How exactly did we re-sign Paul for 5 years and 60? some of it was a "home-town" discount IIRC. Didn't Anaheim offer him either more money or the 6th year?
  3. I was glancing at the papers and saw a few times that Hendry was suprised at how fast this deal came together. If I can read into that, it tells me that The Phills or Astros weren't in the ballpark for years, money, or no trade, and Soriano's agent jumped at the offer while it was there.
  4. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) Jeff Blauser started all this "contract year" crap. Damn, I forgot about him. Yeah, after he signed his contract it looked like he forgot how to play baseball Year Ag Tm Lg G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG TB SH 1997 31 ATL NL 151 519 90 160 31 4 17 70 5 1 70 101 .308 .405 .482 250 5 9 1998 32 CHC NL 119 361 49 79 11 3 4 26 2 2 60 93 .219 .340 .299 108 3 3 1999 33 CHC NL 104 200 41 48 5 2 9 26 2 2 26 52 .240 .347 .420 84 2
  5. I'm sure he and his agent did backflips when they saw what Pierre got, this goes in line with that deal, basically what I thought he would get after hearing Pierre's $$$. With the money that's going around this offseason, this is a good signing IMO. Angels need offensive help, and he's got a wicked glove, which will help in that park and with their good pitching staff
  6. Is there any strong rumors on Schmidt and Zito? I know Levine was mentioning that Schmidt "is next on Hendry's radar" but that could mean a wide variety of things. Looks like KW may wait to see the losers of the bidding wars for those 2 guys and strike to move a SP at that point.
  7. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) best. show. ever. I've seen every episode 2-3 times at least. The episode with Colin Hay from Men at Work singing Overkill, IMO, is one of the best 1/2 hours of TV produced in the last 10 years.
  8. The boys in Bristol are scrambling right now to put together the "Jeter was screwed" pieces, which will likely receive more airtime than anything on the actual MVP
  9. No, I enjoy my ACL being in one piece
  10. We do the two birds as well. I really like both, and it's a nice change of pace. But if forced, I would go for the traditional, mainly because of the stuffing (and no, the casserole stuffing is not nearly as good as the stuff cooked in the bird)

  12. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) That's true. Mencia writes and prepares his racist, condescending "humor", Richards was ad-libbing his. Also, doesn't he claim to be Mexican, but he's really German mixed with South American?
  13. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) and there were people laughing. Ugh. This is as bad as carlos mencia. I wouldn't go that far
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) No appeal. His pension is off limits. Anything he's made over the past decade hs been paid to third parties and his "expenses" have been paid for him. The proceeds from this will likely be paid to a third party as well. I believe the 3rd party has been his mother or the kids. I imagine something will leak. I think early scuttlebut was that OJ was going to say "there would have been an accomplice" if he did it.
  15. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) I can't get any sound out of the video. Just think of him saying the "n" word roughly 20-25 times.... that about sums it up.
  16. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) This is the important concept they are missing. They still need two starting pitchers to have any shot at going deep in the playoffs. As Yoda said "If you chose the quick and easy path you will become an agent of evil." They chose the the path of spectacular move but not the move which will help them win. Unless they add the pitching. IMO this is what happens when your marketing director becomes the team president, and not a baseball guy.
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Wells trade wasn't his IIRC. It was Schueler. Sounds right, or at least Schueler had a hand in it, because one of the members here have/had a sig with a quote from Ron discussing the trade.
  18. If you add a quality offensive player like Soriano to your line-up it can't be horrible. But with that said, the Cubs need pitching badly, and I don't mean just adding Jake Westbrook.
  19. QUOTE(T R U @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) I agree with you, I am not impressed by him.. Also.. I thought watching Angle in TNA didnt quite compare to him in WWE.. I didnt see the end of the match though, someone fill me in Have you guys seen his ROH work? There's a match against Kenta that is off the charts

    The Office

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) One wish for the next year or so... Don't try to make this show serious between Pam and Karen. Just laughs please Other than that, its obviously that Andy v. Dwight is gonna be hilarious. Its the battle of two Kramers gold jerry.... gold I don't mind the right mix of "serious" and comedy. I think they've been doing it well so far. I think the love story angle is well done.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) Freddy Garcia was arguably our best pitcher last season, yet people are so quick to kick him to the curb. How many times did he step it up big time when we neede him the most? Judging by his record and numbers with the Sox, it happened a lot more time than the situation you are mentioning. Freddy really is "Big Game Freddy". He shows up when it is an important game, and IMO winning the clincher of the World Series raised the stakes for what he considers a big game
  22. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) How about geting Jose Molina? The Angels aren't happy with him, his conditioning has been questioned, and they have Mathis and Napoli, perhaps we could get him for nothing. Aside from last year, he hits lefties pretty well, career CS% of 43%, and Hawk always talks about how clutch he is. Anybody (Chisofn?) know much about his game calling? I agree that the Sox need a legit back-up catcher. I love AJ, but he logs a ton of innings.
  23. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) Just curious... When was the last time the Sun-Times, or any publication, speculated on a trade and then it actually happened? its like were chasing our tails here... One that pops to my head is Garcia. His name was thrown around for awhile with the Sox as frontrunners, and it actually dropped.... but I do see your point that a lot of trades don't happen
  24. as I said in the thread when this was just a rumor, Frank will always be one of my favorite players, and I wish him great luck. Also, I don't blame KW or Jerry for the situation, IMO, Frank couldn't be productive for the Sox and what they wanted to accomplish. With 500 Homers and the well deserved reputation of a clean player during a juice era, he will be in the HOF wearing a White Sox hat.
  25. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 07:28 AM) I really think something is going to get done with either the Angels, Mets or Rangers TODAY. And I would take Santana for Garcia, straight up. Santana would still be under our control for another 4 seasons, has great stuff, and just needs to develop more consistency to become a frontline starting pitching. But I wonder if the Sox could try to get Maicer Izturis or even Chone Figgins off the Angels hands here. I agree, if not today, very soon. It seems like the teams are seeing what the FA pitching is going to cost and KW is getting a ton of attention from the other GMs. It should be interesting this week.
