QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) Shogun! I know I picked against him, but it's good to see him finish AND did he ever. If Rampage can win in 3 weeks to set up Shogun/Rampage II that would be uber awesome. Tonight showed that if you can pressure Lyoto, he can't handle it. Daley's stupid, Kos is a b****. I'm not interested in seeing GSP roll through Kos again. Those are the only fights that I watched since I got outta work late. The rest of the results looked meh. the Stout match was good and the Pedigree into the RNC by Belcher was quite entertaining

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:14 AM) Wait, I didn't say people couldn't be excited about it. I didn't post anything at all on the subject. The only reason I posted is because people were getting called out. I hope they can come back and Peavy can be dominant. My point is and always has been if we are paying him 16 million, he's gotta be awesome, because that is money we could have spent on this piece of s*** offense. I said I hope he turns it around, and I said it can be a great trade. So far it has not been. Again, he's a grand total of what, 10 starts into his White Sox career? I'm not going to judge the trade either way at this point, but I will say having CR/AP on this team at this point and spending the extra 16m on offense probably wouldn't be a much better alternative, and again, if Gordon and Quentin are doing around average this team is better, I had and have zero problem with KW expecting those to carry more weight than they have. -
and at the press conference Dana officially cut Daley... it will be interesting to hear him explain when he signs Shields and Nate Diaz is still in the UFC, but terrible choice and timing by Daley

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 9, 2010 -> 12:56 AM) He's getting paid 16 million bucks. 3 good starts (two against awful awful teams) out of 7 isn't what we are paying him for, or traded him for. If you think it is, that's cool I guess. I don't. Especially not good starts when we are 7 games back of first. We needed him the first month. What the White Sox needed the first month was Quentin and Beckham to hit like they were expected to, and don't give me the two out of three were against crap teams because he did absolutely what a dominant pitcher is supposed to do against crap teams and that was give them little to no chance to win the game. With the filthy stuff he's had recently it's OK to be excited about him. Basically every pitcher, even dominant ones, have clunkers during the season, look at Sabathia's normal April stats, he usually is terrible. Wow, so is he done pitching after these 7 starts? The Sox only are paying him for the first 7 starts of the season? I guess it's "cool" to think that and completely ignore he actually looks like a dominant pitcher again. Is 7 games a lot to be out on May 8th? Absolutely. Does it mean the season is over. No, would be a tremendous turnaround, but let's see what happens, they still have 15 or so games left against the Twins, and in the only series they played against them this year all three games were extremely close. -
Winner of Kos/Daley will be the coach against GSP on the next season of TUF and get the title shot

Former NFL Star Lawrence Taylor Arrested
SoxFan562004 replied to BigSqwert's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
NY, like all states I know of, have a strict liability standard for this type of crime, there is no intent to prove, it's simply was she under 17 and was he over 21, that's it. Some of the issues raised may be relevant at sentencing or a possible plea, however LT doesn't have a stellar track record and DAs are elected and if the facts aren't overly favorable to LT, the public may not be too pleased if he gets a sweetheart deal on a rape case. http://www.examiner.com/x-46000-Long-Islan...utory-rape-case -
QUOTE (Brian @ May 6, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Too bad the Cards have lost 3 in a row. won't matter, only way the Cards don't absolutely run away with this division is a major injury or two

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) That's basically a very good summary of it. Somehow, there was a faulty price processed for P & G. Lots of electronic systems have settings that say "sell if it gets to this price". A faulty low price would trigger all of those sell orders. Then, once people realized something was wrong, people would go in and start buying. Thank you, like I said, it seemed like that was the P & G thing was a big part of the huge drop, (and don't get me wrong, from what I understand the EU situation is very serious but I was talking about the 900 point drop that happened in like minutes) but news stations would rather be sensational than give people a valid reason.
-
Can someone with a little experience explain the P & G thing? CNN glossed over it because it wouldn't be as scary. It sounded like the P & G stock fell (falsely?) a ton and it triggered a lot of computer programs to sell off.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) He's hitting .171 and keeps missing games with back stiffness. yeah, Johnson has a lot to admire at the plate, but he doesn't exactly stay healthy, I don't want to see the Sox target him as an everyday player

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) I'd seriously make chicks sign Letters of Consent with an attorney present if I were a celebrity/well-known person before I banged them. Another money grab. There are so little facts out about this case, how could you possibly say that? You know some professional athletes are grade-A assholes and actually have abused and raped women? Are there money grabs? I'm sure there are, but there are also many sexual assaults that occur and charges aren't pressed because these crimes can be difficult to prove in a criminal court. -
QUOTE (Tex @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) IIRC most posters here felt Paulie offered the team a "home town discount". well depends on how you want to define that, but if media reports are true he did turn down some extra from at least the Angels, I just don't remember if it was years or $$ at this point.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 4, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) Aside from winning the World Series, that and Podsednik's homer are 1a and 1b. Blum's homer didn't actually win it within the moment, and I was on such a roller coaster of emotion (especially after Konerko had just GIDP'd) that I couldn't appreciate Blum's homer to the fullest. The Blum homer is way up on the list, I know it didn't end the game, but the length of the game and the fact that I absolutely expected a terrible AB, it was such a shock that it will always stick with me. I can easily remember where I was for every WS game, the reaction of those around me for every big play

I think the deal was a good value for the Sox, the offensive numbers have been basically consistent, a drop after the first two years, but still solid... also as pointed out his D is good by eyes and I believe in other threads people have posted stats to support. Yeah, he has zero range, but he picks basically every ball in the dirt and he has a good throwing arm. Those who watch other 1b know how bad some can be with the balls in the dirt, PK rarely lets one of those get by him. Also, the Sox were a consistent top 10 payroll team throughout that contract, so they have a little more leeway than other teams to go the little extra money or years. All things considered it was a good deal IMO
-
Of course Pods was good on the '05 team, but I can rationalize my appreciation for him for that one single year and agreeing on not wanting to give him a multi year deal at this point in his career

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 4, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) BTW who here has MMA as his favorite sport? I grew up watching and playing baseball, and I'll always be a hardcore baseball lover, but I think MMA has overtaken it. Am I alone here? baseball and MMA are probably tied for me right now. Jason Brilz is replacing Forrest, 3-1 in the UFC, not exactly a top caliber opponent, but it's about 3 weeks out. UFC probably hopes Lil Nog looks spectacular in-front of a good PPV buy rate

QUOTE (Brian @ May 4, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) Bartman worked, and may still work, at the same place as a buddy of mine who I play basketball with. I remember him telling me about all the phone calls that came in the days following asking for and trying to harass Bartman. Funny thing is, if he got contacts, shaved his head, and wore more up to date clothes minus the headphones, he could walk into Wrigley and nobody would know it was him. A friend of mine worked at the same company, and he said there was a memo that any inter-office shennanigans could and would result in some form of severe discipline. It's just a sad example of "Cubbie lore" that he is singled out, Prior absolutely melted down, the double play ball was blown and to top it off it wasn't the close out game, Kerry Wood pitched and lost game 7. I had told my friends in the Atlanta series that the Cubs wouldn't go far that year because Wood and Prior would choke, then they pitched real well until game 6 or 7, so I was right!!! lol

QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 4, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) I sure hope so but lets not get too carried away. He beat a crap team. I want to wait to see him have a couple good starts before I consider him back to form. Heck even Jon Garland threw 8 shutout innings the other night. yeah, and to paraphrase Lenny Leonard "Yeah, and Jake beat their brains in." Basically, he did what a dominant pitcher is supposed to do to a crap team. Also, I just didn't look at a box score (and by the way this crap team, according to many posters on this board have, have Scotty "The White Ricky Henderson" in their line-up!!!) I watched the game and his stuff looked very nasty tonight.

Forrest off the 114 card against Lil' Nog... no replacement named yet, but they have about 3 weeks, hopefully a top guy can grab the opportunity.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 1, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Slightly offtopic, in this case who is picktoclick AJ or Andruw? close, but due to the teams seemingly complete inability to get a big 2 out hit I would give it to A.J. I know it's a circular argument because without Jones' two bombs the Sox are to more runs behind, but with Linebrink giving up runs and again, the teams struggles to get "big" hits, I would go with A.J.

If you are JR. who is on your BIG BOARD to replace KW?
SoxFan562004 replied to chisoxt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Quentin who is not on a big deal and Beckham who is on a 2nd year rookie contract have really crippled this line-up as much as Pierre, and I don't think there's very many people on this board who would have predicted that, especially since only one late scratch, Q has been healthy. Also, is the 16m washout Peavy? For christ sake he's had 4 or 5 starts, let's not banish him yet like everyone was all over Rios. -
UPS has a large center in, I believe it's Addison, right off 53 about a mile north of North Ave... there's also movie theaters around that look for summer staff.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) It sounds like something big already went down between Tito and the UFC even before this. There was an interview I saw where Chuck said something to the effect of, "If (Tito) wants to come back to the UFC and fight me he can..." Maybe Tito is still with the company, but it sounds like he's already in some kind of dispute or something. Which of course isn't surprising, considering it's Tito. http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/13172/ Tito and his attorney say everything is a result of her addiction to prescription drugs and he never touched her. possible spoiler regarding TUF:
