  1. Sheffield was traded to the Tigers http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/base...gers/index.html ...and a two year extension!
  2. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's fine, I just don't understand how you were responding to that post. Trading Thome -- seems like an idea that a couple people have floated, but I haven't seen tons of people clamoring for it. He said we should address our problem against left handed pitchers. Although he wants to focus on the bad ones, I put focus on the lefties in our division. As you could see by the breakdown, the only guy who seemingly hits LHP is Pablo and Dye. He said we should improve our hitting with the only suggestion (my assumption as I am going along with the thread) being signing Alou to platoon with Thome. It is obvious our holes last last season were LF, C, and SS. Not the DH. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont think anyone wants Thome except us.
  3. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm pretty sure the poster was saying the idea of signing Alou has merit, not the idea of trading Thome. I'm not going to make a seperate post to address moving Thome. That is why I generalized a group of "people" and not say "you" want to trade Thome. Signing a guy just to platoon with him is stupid IMO, but Alou could play DH against LHP and play LF against RHP
  4. What is your obsession with trading Jim Thome? You do realize the only thing that kept him from being our best hitter last season (playing around his career norms) is Jermaine Dye (Play above his career norms?) Oh yeah, last season Drew sucked against lefties too but Thome blew him away against RHP.
  5. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WE do need to address poor results against left handers-bad ones look good against us. This is an idea that has merit In 2006, these lefthanders had the following Sox players hit well against them: Santana: Pablo and Jim Thome Sabathia:Pablo and Jermaine Lee: Crede, Jermaine, Mack, Iguchi, Konerko Rogers: Anderson, Dye(.851 OPS,) Konerko (.833) we didn't hit his cheating ass that well Robertson: Crede, Dye, Thome, Uribe Redman: Anderson, Crede, Konerko, Pablo, Thome Perez: Crede, Iguchi, and Pablo Where exactly do you plan to start? Looks like LF, C, and SS to me. Yet people think trading Thome because "he can't hit any left handers" is a good idea. :rolly
  6. I'd take him. He's been healthy since going to Atlanta and hasn't had any leg issues. The only reason why he missed time in 2005 was due to a broken wrist from a HBP. You can't call him injury prone for that.
  7. I tried this at work with a 20 oz., but the bottom blew out.

Since I never saw it before, I bought the Godfather trilogy, and I have to say it's pretty overrated. Part II was easily the best with the Robert DeNiro as a young Vito was the most entertaining part of the trilogy. Oh, Coppola's daughter wasn't that bad.
  9. I gave up on my religion after too many scandals, houlier than thou jerks being hypocrites telling me how we're all going to hell, and one of our priests sneding us a letter begging for more money from us to get a new roof or something.
  10. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Looks like they changed the match. It's 4 on 4 and neither Arn or Mitch will be involved, but both will be at ringside. As it should be. When did they start doing 5 on 5? With that Alliance-WWF crap back in 2001?
  11. QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have to disagree with you on Brandon but I do agree with you on J.T. Hes a great guy but he is getting older and it would make sense to get rid of him now while we can still get alot for him .The Angels are dying for a left-handed power hitter to back-up Vlady and that would help them and we could prob. get Figgins and a reliever or possibley Santana so we get the best of both worlds :pick up an OF with speed and a reliever all in one trade .If for some reason we were able to get I.Santana in the deal well thats just too bad....So long Freddy AND Javy. No it wouldn't "make sense" to get rid of the second best hitter on your team (only because another guy was having a career year) just because you can get a lot for him. Would you trade Scott Podsednik and Mike MacDougal for Bobby Abreu? Of course you would. So why would you trade Jim Thome for Figgins and a reliever?
  12. ...and no surprise, President Bush announced he was going after his brother Al.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've already voiced my distain for having a knuckler in a relief role. I dont like walks with men on, and I HATE giving up free stolen bases. Unless Stewart is catching, the runners will all have free bases. For my ideal bullpen, Haeger wouldn't be pitching in 8th inning with 1 out and runners on second and third (which apparently some people here think that's what Riske will be used for.) He would pitch when a starter gets knocked out early either through injury or a s***ty game, or when we have a comfortable lead. Jenks-Closer MacDougal-RH setup man Thornton-LH setup man Cotts-LH situational or 6th or 7th inning guy when the starter doesn't go that long ???-RH situational or 6th or 7th inning guy when the starter doesn't go that long Haeger-Long man/Spot starter/mopup duty I don't see what the big deal is giving Riske a couple of million to be the ??? When relievers have been getting a ton of money over the offseason. Relief pitching is the riskiest(no pun intended) positions to fill via free agency. Look at the deals Fransworth, Ryan, Howry, Eyre, Dempster, anybody the Phillies signed when Ed Wade was in the office. What would've happened if Politte was a free agent after 2005? Who ever was going to sign him would've been screwed big time.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Randy Johnson trade was supposedly pre-2005 and involved Paul Konerko, and if I recall correctly, some 17th round draft pick named Brandon McCarthy was included as a throw-in on that deal as well. I like our trophy better. No, I was talking about an early 90's trade with Johnson. Supposedly it was so close Ventura already had a jersey ready for him. The RJ trade rumors of 2004 never had a deal in place, but there was always talk involving Konerko and Garland.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Viz lost innings because he wasnt as effective and Ozzie only used him sparingly because of how bad he was when he was outt there in pressure situations. Gas-can Vizcaino needed to go and we all knew that. Wrong. Hermanson, Politte, and Cotts pitching out of their minds and the eventual call up of Jenks kept Ozzie from using Vizcaino. Despite how bad he was, Marte received more opportunities from Guillen because he threw lefthanded.
  16. I been meaning to post this since I heard it during the NLCS, but apparently during the 2000 season the Rockies turned down a trade of Jose Jimenez and Pedro Astico for Vernon Wells, Roy Halladay, and Chris Carpenter because they were afraid they would upset the fans because AStico was so popular. The Sox supposedly had a trade for Randy Johnson worked out as well. I once read the Red Sox were trying to trade Babe Ruth for Joe Jackson. Any other notables?
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's $2 million that could be better spent. I think there is zero chance of the White Sox offering Riske arbitration, and zero chance that a team signs him before the White Sox have to make it official. He's a reliever who can't be put into tight situations. You always need guys who pitch garbage time, but pay those types around the minimum. Do you think there is any chance the White Sox go after Eric Gagne? I think Boras is his agent which would present a problem, and he probably would balk at being a set-up guy if he's even healthy enough to pitch, but for some reason I think the Sox may be interested. You have a problem giving $2 million to our fifth man in the bullpen yet you advocate going after a guy, represented by Boras, whose $12 million option was just declined because he had a year full of injury. Someone please remind me how many bullpen guys the White Sox currently have that are making over $1 million? Thought so. The only other teams that can say that are the D-Rays, Marlins and Royals.
  18. Another thing about the "tough lefties" that were mentioned: Liriano is out, Redman isn't back with the Royals (Thome had a 1.000 OPS against,) Robertson was torched by him (1.255 OPS,) and he had a 1.000 OPS against Johan Santana.
  19. Who plays LF when there is a lefty on the mound? Ozuna? I like the idea of signing Alou for LF and giving Thome some rest against LHP and slotting Alou in the DH spot to give him some rest from playing the field.
  20. Flash, wake up. KW (Williams as you call him,) was shopping Garcia last offseason. Perhaps he didn't get a good offer and decided it was better to hold onto his rotation.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> RichHill3. I'm not going to let a few months during garbage time convince me he is a solid pitcher. Yes he had some impressive AAA numbers, but he's almost as old as Jon Garland and really only has one pitch. Aboz, in section 13 of the MLB-Japan agreement, it states the MLB Comissioner can oversee the bidding process, and can revoke the highest bidder's negotiation rights and give it to the next highest bidder all for "the best interests of professional baseball."
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Makes Mackowiak expendable in the right deal, because I think Terrero will end up winning a bench spot for the simple fact he's a good defensive CF, which KW said one of the needs he needed to address for the bench in the off-season. EDIT: The guy also hit .318/.367/.560 in 302 AB's for AAA Ottawa after a 0 for 19 start. If he can handle the bat alright at the major league level as a backup outfielder, it's a good signing. Please. Mack is very underrated here and it's too bad Ozzie's misuse of him makes people want him off the team or think can be replaced rather easily.
  23. Hey whatever happened with Liriano's DUI case? WHERE'S OUR LIRIANO???
  24. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's voted on by managers and coaches. For Crede to win, he has to unseat the incumbent and have a clear cut edge. Crede committed 10 errors, Chavez 5. If you want Joe to win, vote here: http://whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/awa.../tyib/index.jsp Carlos Lee had zero errors back in 2004. Where was his GG? Should Juan Pierre win a GG this year as well?
  25. Wasn't Lopez considered to be a pretty good second base man? The Red Sox had a great defensive infield, but didn't get a single gold glove.
