  1. His hit total is a product of him moping around in platoon roles way after his prime. If he was such a good hitter, why did he never lead the league in batting average, RBI's, HR, or OBP? Hell, the only time he led the league in an offensive category was SLG% in 1984. He's 40th on the list for all-time hits, but he's also 27th for most outs made in a career. I don't think either should be used as a metric to let him in or keep him out of the hall, but they are both by products of playing for a long time. He was a DH for a long time and hung around for platoon roles. How many more hits would other HOF'ers get if they were entitled to the same luxuries?
  2. The bolded are the only players known for just stealing bases and their teams won the world series for other reasons. Pods is living off of minor league deals, Pierre is a huge asset and Womack is out of baseball. Rollins and Soriano would rather homer, just look at their slugging percentages. Damon's game is getting on base for the big boppers, and Eckstein is a slapper. He stole 21 bases with the 2002 Angels while getting caught 13 times, and with the 2006 Cardinals he stole a whopping 7 bases versus 6 caught stealings for the year.
  3. how about the 2004 Red Sox? They had 68 stolen bases, 1 ahead of KC, and were 22 stolen bases behind the AL average. They were 11th overall and their stolen base % was 69. They won due to the big bats and great pitching of Pedro, Schilling, and in the postseason, Derek Lowe. I'll have to look at it later, but I heard Abreu's high CS% was due to Girardi getting all "NL" with the hit and runs.
  4. He doesn't work for the Sun-Times, he covers girls' high school sports for a small paper in Butte-Fuch, Idaho.
  5. No offense, but so what? The Sox have been tied to Abreu since Ozzie took over. What is there to "call" here? Get back to me when he passes the physical and the dollar amount is agreed upon. I'm still waiting for that Thursday press conference you were alluding to for some time a couple of months ago.
  6. Personally I like that idea of offering free vasectamies (sp?) to the lower class if they choose they want it. I rather have my tax dollars pay for one surgery to prevent the birth of an unwanted child (and more likey a future criminal due to a lack of a father figure and living in a poor environment) than have my tax dollars pay for 18 years of social programs and food stamps.
  7. You don't even want to know what the punishment is for going 287% over is.
  8. Shame that they are only showing the same games from the A&E set that you can get right now for $39 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CRR392
  9. Paul Bako bako to the Cubs 1 year $725k Josh Fogg back to the Rockies on a minor league deal Jason Varitek back to the Red Sox
  10. Former sox news (which now has turned into other players' news) =/= Sox news. Really, who cares about Crede and Uribe? We didn't offer them arbitration (thank God on Uribe for a chance to get a sandwich pick) so we couldn't negotiate with them until may 1st. Pretty strange to see so many recognizable names still out there
  11. Mike Sweeney signed a minor league deal with the Mariners Juan Uribe signed a minor league deal with the Giants Russ Springer signed a 1 year deal with the A's Let me be a mod for this thread.
  12. So why should society care? /just thinking like Joe the Plumber
  13. Funny, I recall Crede's defense costing the Sox some games last season. Two in a row to the Blue Jays and soon after one to the Angels. GET OVER IT. Boras says Crede is looking this offseason too.

I have a film for bigsqwert, "The life of David Gale." I'm sorry bs, but I thought Kevin Spacey had the same similar extreme liberal viewpoints as you on the topic. Texsox would be interested in it as well because it takes place in Texas.
  16. I think I'll just stop paying my association dues. They shut off my water after 3 months of unpaid dues ($390.) If I smell bad or die of dehydration I'll just sue the association because I'm not responsible for paying my bills. There's still some more info I'm missing here. Yeah it was $1,100 in unpaid bills, but how many months late is that? He's 93 years old which means he gets money for social security, but he has no family or friends to check in on him living by himself? How often did the electric company contact this man? What methods did they use? The company installed it on the 13th so how did he not notice the lack of power? His body wasn't discovered until the 17th so I don't know if he died on that day or immediately after the device was installed.

Is there a chance the Magneto prequel will be nominated for best movie of the year when it comes out? It takes place during the Holocaust, Sir Ian McKellan is gay and Magneto has never been seen with a woman, and he is discovering the effects of his body. Hmm, what else do we need? A musical number? A dead parent?

  19. That's pretty cheap. Cable companies con people into thinking $30 a month but that's only if you get internet and home phone service for $30 a month each. I've been without cable for three months now and it's not too bad. I watch a lot of movies so I have Redbox and Netflix to entertain me. The cable packages here freaking blow and I'm in an area with 6 MLB teams blackout. With streaming sites like Stooge.tv I don't really see why I should get it. My best bet is to get DirecTV and their biggest package (274 channels) to get all the Fox Sports Nets and CSN's but it's $82 a month and I'm not sure my side of the building gets a receptive signal. I also link on other people's wireless networks.
  20. Sean Casey and Kenny Rogers both retired.
