Sox v. Rangers, Gamethread
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) Have you heard of any reasoning behind Fields not playing? No, but I doubt its a sign that a trade is on its way. We'd have heard something by now or so you'd think. I'd assume its just a normal day off, but if he is out because of trade talk getting real serious, my guess is we'll know something relatively quickly.

Sarge watches a good changeup and takes the walk. I don't like walking Sarge because it gets us one batter closer to the heart of the Rangers lineup. Kinsler grounds out. I promised some runs and the Sox are gonna come through this inning. I'm thinking 3-4

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) Ya no spiff, probably would get a SP prospect back though. You never know what could happen, if other teams are involved, maybe a starting pitcher comes our way with one of our starters going there way.

Starting to sprinkle apparently. Rain is apparently expected around the 7 O'clock hour which would be now. Hawk says its supposed to last for about 45 minutes. I hate rain delays, especially since Freddy is looking pretty decent and I want him to have a big game tonight in which he gets his confidence back and our other pitchers can help feed on it. I want to see a string of 18 of 20 quality starts out of our guys and I think its possible.

Freddy comes back and gets the K. He threw two good Fb's and than had a real nice changeup to get Wilkerson swinging.

Sox v. Rangers, Gamethread
After that double he's been 90/91.

Not good, Freddy falling behind another guy.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Cause we have a 2nd baseman playing in left field. Lord knows I've hammered Ozzie for his defensive shannanigans but I've been pretty consistent with that all year and I'm convinced the best thing we could do is get Pods the hell out of dodge and replace him with a more active leadoff hitter and a better defensive left fielder. Of course I don't see that happening till the off-season.

That fastball...90 MPH

Mench hammered it for an RBI double. How the run scored from first I have absolutely no idea.

Padres get Williamson from Cubs
This definately makes them a little more free to move Linebrink for a 3rd baseman.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) AJ is taking upper cut swings, just like he did all of last year. When he does that, he's not going to be a .300 hitter, but more like a .260 hitter. That I agree with and Its pissing me off cause we don't need his power. Dreaded leadoff walk.

Getting through this rut
QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Stop talking about pitching, and realize that our LOB is horrific and is the cure to our pitching woes. Through 3 innings we already have 6 LOB and walks, strikouts, and popups has been all the production from 3-4-5, when a hit from any one of them would have put us on the board........ And how many times did the bats save the offense. Its time for the pitching to do the same and in no time both the offense and rotation will be clicking on all cylinders and people will forget all about this little stretch.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) AJ and Konerko are so coming back to earth right now. Coming back to earth...AJ was a career .300 plus hitter in Minnesota while Paulie has had seasons right around .300. I don't see where they are coming back to earth, more like a slump.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) Did it look deliberate? Nope. Crede had too much of an uppercut on that swing cause he got a major cookie. We've had way too many popups and now they just gave Koronka a real easy inning. But if Freddy can do his thing, I smell a few runs coming our way next time around (BA, PAB's, GUCHI to get things started for the middle of the order and they are gonna come through).

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) I take it no one misses Frank Thomas (or should I say, Cade McNown) throwing the ball in that same situation? Huh? Paulie is such an under-rated 1st baseman in my book. I don't think there is a first baseman in the bigs that picks the ball like he does on throws (he saves Crede and Uribe all the time) and no one has the arm that he has over at 1st when it comes to turning 3-6-3 DP's. He's got slightly below avg range, but he usually gets to anything hit at him. QUOTE(RoyHobbs @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) PK is goin to the right side and we know how good he is at doin that. once you see that he's doin that u know he's gonna come out of it. goin to the right side is not a bad thing, once he gets on top of the ball watch out Exactly, by the way welcome aboard Roy. Glad we were able to get your account all squared up

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) That's what I'm saying though...it seems unless those 3-4-5 guys homer, our offense is struggling to put up runs. It's just frustrating to see PK either pop up the inside fastball, or roll over on the outside slow pitch. He's a much better hitter than that. Paulie has had plenty of RBI's that haven't been on the HR, same with the other guys. Sure we hit a lot of Hr's, but Dye and Paulie are right around .300 and Thome is in the .275-.285 range. Oh and did I mention Paulie is a complete professional hitter. And where is the credit he deserves for the beautiful AB he had in the 1st to draw a walk? And ya he is a better hitter than that, but he's in a bit of a slump, it happens. Its time for the pitching to pick things up for the offense....cause we all know the offense has done plenty this year and will continue to do plenty throughout the year I'm sure.

Paulie just made the perfect throw to turn the 3-6-3 double play. Inning over and that was an awesome pitch by Freddy to get Blalock to roll into it.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) Problem is PK is popping up to the right side or grounding to the left side every time up lately. You can't just tip your hat to every pitcher. Its called a slump, it happens. But in this case it was a real nice pitch. Even when your at your best your lucky to get 4 hits in 10 AB's (this is when your on a major hot streak).

Garcia hits Tex so one on, one out for Blalock.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) This is brutal by our offense. If we don't hit a homer, we don't score. I hope they're not expecting for Garcia to hold the Rangers under 3 runs tonight. Lets not give credit to Koronka who made a real nice pitch to eat up Paulie (and the first pitch changeup was good as well). Thome and Dye both hit the ball hard. Crede just made a real nice play to get the 1st out. Tex is up now.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) Seriously, where the hell was that pitch Only thing I can think of is that the ump didn't get a good view since AJ got up and faked a throw to 1st.

Inning over...91 MPH hit very hard by Kinsler but Anderson is there.
-
Sox v. Rangers, Gamethread
2 out walk issued by Freddy and now Kinsler is up. How the hell was that just called a ball (1-0 now to Kinsler).

Freddy is throwing 88 MPH on most of his FB's.
