  1. Hope not. He's of more use than the Hayes/Grichuk duplicate.
  2. I haven't seen Robert play any SS either. Acuna has helped, in his own way.
  3. If he should come back at all. He and Grichuk are similar. I know they'll bring him up and probably send down Nishida. But then someone will have to go for Pereira, who is promising and controllable.
  4. Well, in a couple of weeks the Sox play @Philly, Braves, Dodgers, @Yankees. So after that set, it must be real easy.
  5. Nice W. 2 in a row without the first-string DH in the lineup....

I try to comfort myself by thinking that we might have picked Jac. Or, if we had picked Griffin, we may not have picked Bonemer. Or if he was as good as Chase Burns, as some thought (presumably the Sox), we'd have an ace.

Variance is a good thing if it's intentional and he's controlling it. I guess that's not the situation. That could get his 94 to play a lot faster. Otherwise, at 94, he'll be 4th starter a best; maybe a 3 with impeccable command. I supposed 4th starter would be a reasonable "mitigation of damages" at this point.
  8. Sandlin, of course, was fantastic. He was never in any trouble tonight; Next time, some balls will fall in. I didn’t realize that his “stuff” was this good (couldn’t tell from the stats). Rely on that stuff and throw strikes. I didn’t see tonight’s lineup as a B lineup: the big dogs were still there and the lineup benefitted big from some addition by subtraction.

Is there a way to see the pitching in these in-game boxscores?

What about Larson? Sox pitching drafts since Crochet have been .....something.
  11. Wasn't it rumored to be the Rule 5 guy we returned?
  12. Kelenic always seemed really uptight.
  13. I would dump Acuna, only if Nishada sticks. I think the IF/OF is helpful. Nishada's outfield D was impressive; showed some arm as well. Grichuk and Hayes are a tossup. Lean Grichuk as he's had a better year and is uninjured. Hill's right there, but he plays better D. Frankly, if need be, they could dump Grichuk and Hayes. Benintendi has a .650 OPS; .682 against RHP. As a DH. That's heavy weight on this team.
  14. I don't think I've even noticed this guy since the draft; not on any of the lists. He has Madrigal power (thus no lists) but he steals bases. If his D is good, why not!
  15. Pitching and homers for the V. Good show.
  16. Schedule a day game the day after a west coast game?
  17. That's half of the Sox pitching staff right now (3/4?). That said, they didn't protect him when they had plenty of room, so I guess they don't want him back.
  18. In what way do you see catcher riskier than other positions?
  19. Even though the Cubs have a lot of national following due to lovable Harry Caray and WGN, they are also kind of a cult team. Goats, Ignoring Sosa's issues then discarding him when they started losing, going after Bartman's throat because Moises Alou couldn't make a play; now blaming a chirping fan for PCA's over-the-top vulgarity.
  20. I don't like catchers early because they usually hit well "for a catcher." But Lackey, at least statistically, hits at least as well as Roch. Plus his athleticism. Tempting.
  21. Hudson's had 25 appearances. He's given up earned runs in 3 of them. 2 of those 3 were his first 2 appearance of the year. The other was v Cubs last week. So why use him as opener. Put Leasure there - if he give up a solo shot, no big deal. If he gives up a few runs, at least we'll have a lot of innings to catch up. Leasure has talent, but let him ease in. When Hicks comes back, let him open. You can limit his damage> But Davis and Hudson are 2 of the better relievers in this challenging bullpen.
  22. They know Leasure's prone to that. Call him up and put him in that situation off the bat. Meanwhile, Davis has been pitching his rear off, and they use him in the 9-0 game.
  23. Mune's double was some professional hitting. It was like he decided when the ball was 3/4 to the plate to just punch it into left. And he did.
  24. Drafting high school pitching early is just asking for disappointment (although I think the Astros knew what they were doing). But were these teams wrong in passing on Rodon? He didn't do much with the Sox until his last year; and that was after the Sox didn't pick up his option and signed him when anyone else in the league could have done the same. As someone mentioned above, Roch has been excessively hyped. I had assumed he was a generational prospect. Don't want to overthink this, but his Cod stats, not returning to Cod, and lack of speed (athleticism? ) give me pause. Roch and Vahn's stats are similar, but Vahn has a higher slug and more speed. And if he can play CF, that's even better.
