  1. JR has fired many coaches and executives of the past 35 years. Just seems to have a thing for Williams though.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:38 AM) One month of Matt Albers should net a decent prospect? What's the downside? Decent relative to waiver wire trades.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) I agree with this. They may deal him in the offseason but I think they pick up the option for sure. That would be outrageous. More hero-worshiping. More sentimentality from an overly sentimental organization. Cubs have their goats; Sox have their slightly above average players they turn into heroes. If they want him back, decline the option then sign him. Or trade him now, even better.
  4. Saladino looks like the utility infielder going forward. At least He won't cost 4 million. Micah should be up now.

    Gracious, Kanny has lost 13/14
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) I'd like to see them dump Soto and give the at-bats to Rob Brantly. If they could deal Ramirez I'd consider that too but they'll probably explore that in the offseason. There's nothing to trade in the offseason re Ramirez, unless they pick up his option, which, if they do, would make him untradeable anyway. the time is now (actually, it was 9 months ago). Waiver trade Albers...he would bring a lottery prospect. Don't know what they're waiting on unless Kenny is still waiting on that 10 game winning streak or they're worried about the effect of trading heroes on attendance.
  7. QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) There is also a possibility that the White Sox do not exercise Ramirez's option and the White Sox move Sanchez to SS (or promote Anderson) for next season and use that money to fill out the lineup should there be another offensive upgrade in free agency or trade. I do think Johnson should be in the lineup most days next season if his ability to hit is not in question. There is no way that the Sox should pick up Alexei's option. Sanchez and Saladino should play SS the rest of the way.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) I agree and disagree. I don't think he's a garbage throw-in by any means. I also believe he is going to get traded in the offseason as part of a package for a different position player. How about a trade for a ML 3B, just like he's a ML ready 2B. Shouldn't need much of a "package" I'll pass on a bigger package for any more "proven veterans" and fallen heroes out of Williams and Hahn. That approach has been a debacle. He needs to play over the next 5 weeks. And Alexei needs to sit.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Not really. Sanchez is the 2B for the near future in my opinion. Saladino can play SS until Anderson is ready. I don't really see a spot for Micah either. His bat is insufficient for 2b...probably. But if you go by the last 2 months only, he's okay there. But we do have Micah. And fine, trade him for a 3b, but jettisoning him to the minors in May doesn't max his value. He needs to play regularly over the next 5 weeks.
  10. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) I'm sick of watching the White Sox playing circus clown defense. Micah Johnson's not an elite hitter whose bat would compensate for his defensive incompetence. He's also had a problem staying healthy. Then you better not look at the outfield, if you don't want to see clown defense. It's hard for me to take the Sox seriously if they say that Johnson's defense isn't up to their standards, when they sign Melky Cabrera to a $50 million deal and forego a draft choice.. Regardless, no reason not to play Johnson the last 5 weeks of the season. Alexei and Beckham shouldn't leave the bench. Sox gave up O to put Saladino and Sanchez out there. It didn't help the team. It helped some of Cooper's pitchers, but not the team.
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) The issue with trying to have Johnson, Sanchez and Saladino in the starting lineup potentially for next season is the lack of power. U.S. Cellular Field is a power-park, these guys are not power / RBI type hitters. You can have some of them in the lineup since they bring needed speed, defense and youth but I don't see how you can keep all of them even if Ramirez is let go. Mark Can't have Saladino at 3rd, that's for sure. Move Saladino or Sanchez to short. Johnson at 2B. No reason to believe he can't hit. Get rid of Cooper and Ventura.
  12. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) Seriously, where would he play? There's no place for Micah Johnson on the White Sox. I hope they trade him before he has zero value. Second base. Zero value? He's not declining.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) He still needs to at least be given the chance to hit righties this year. Exactly. And for as many at bats they give Laroche, Dunn and Melky against lefties - guys who have proven they can't hit them - they sure as heck can give Thompson some at bats against righties.
  14. Call him up when he is out of rehab. Release Beckham and Alexei. Or do a waiver deal for Alexei. Matt Albers too....no reason to hang onto him and he should net a decent prospect. Sanchez at short.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) If the Sox need to trade pitching, I would prefer to see what I can get for Rodon and/or Adams rather than trading Q. To me Q is now a proven #1/2 starter. I think it's hard to get fair value in return for him. I think there's a better chance at getting fair value for Rodon and/or Adams. I think Q is closer to a number three. Rodon can be an ace. Don't trade him. It should be quite easy to get fair value for Q. They know exactly what his value is. He's been consistent. They either pay it or they don't. It's about time the Sox trade off some veterans anyway. The org. is too sentimental as it is. Cubs had no problem dispatching Samardzija, e.g. Sox just had to hang onto Alexei over the winter.
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 12:08 AM) Sanchez is now into positive WAR territory. He's absolutely earned the starting role at 2B headed into spring. If the ORG can bring in someone on the cheap that is a 4 WAR player well hell in that case forget Sanchez, but when that doesn't happen, start him. He's earned it. If he was more highly touted we'd be ecstatic about a slick fielding 23 year old 2B that seems to have a little pop in his bat as well. He's never gonna hit more than 270/320/400 but with his glove at 2B that's an above average starter in today's game. I'd like to see Sanchez get time it short for the rest of the season. His bat really is light for second base. I would also consider Thompson in left and let Melky DH. Avi is younger, hits just as well as Melky, and needs the work. Melky is shaping up as dead money himself.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 10:41 PM) Amen brother. I wish they'd bring up Micah too and Davidson!! Play them. Why not?? Ask Robin and Cooper. Thompson is not only young, he's the hottest hitter on the team. And they won't play him regularly. Honestly, they should be trying to move some of these players through waivers to open up more spots for September. Guys like Alexei really need to sit.
  18. Considering we gave up a draft choice, pay him more and signed him for more years, Melky was a far worse signing than Laroche. And yet, people act like Melky has done his job. He's been terrible.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Only noticed this because of the highlighting in the last post, but I'm pretty sure Matt Albers cannot be "protected". He has more than 6 years of big league service time and is on a 1 year deal. He will file for free agency a few days after the world series and that will clear his 40 man roster spot, unless he is resigned to a contract extension before that date. Correct. He's pitching well. Hahn should trade him.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) For me it's Navarro in a runaway. He actually once complained about run support after a game he allowed 9 earned. One guy who is up there at least if you are talking home fans, Claudell Washington. Absolutely. Hated by whom? Other teams? Okay, maybe AJ. But by Sox fans? Not even close. And I'm with Dick - Navarro.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) i really thought some might have posted here. but oh well. i will start with this. Dan Jennings Pitcher - protect Jake Petricka Pitcher - protect Jeff Samardzija Pitcher - free agent / do not protect David Robertson Pitcher - protect Jose Quintana Pitcher - protect Carlos Rodon Pitcher - protect Zach Putnam Pitcher - protect Chris Sale Pitcher - protect Matt Albers Pitcher - protect John Danks Pitcher with his contract / do not protect Zach Duke Pitcher - protect Tyler Saladino - protect Trayce Thompson - protect Adam Eaton - protect Carlos Sanchez - protect J.B. Shuck - protect Jose Abreu - protect Avisail Garcia - protect Adam LaRoche with his contract / do not protect Gordon Beckham - do not protect, unless the fo needs him. Alexei Ramirez - protect Geovany Soto do not protect ////// undecided Melky Cabrera --protect Tyler Flowers - protect Frankie Montas Pitcher - protect Michael Ynoa Pitcher - protect Junior Guerra Pitcher - protect Chris Beck Pitcher - protect Scott Carroll Pitcher do not protect Erik Johnson Pitcher - protect Daniel Webb Pitcher - protect Kevan Smith do not protect Matt Davidson do not protect Leury Garcia - protect Adrian Nieto - protect Rob Brantly - protect Micah Johnson - protect going in, the sox has 38 players protected, with this new tally per my opinion i have added 8 more that i would not protect. the reason being, the young players that need to be added to the 40 man roster. I disagree with the ones in bold. But it kind of depends on who else needs protection. As for Leury, the Sox spent $6million on utility infielders this offseason. Until they wean off of the need for 2 utility infielders on the 25, he's the guy.
  22. Okay, he's a young guy, and he's strong. But is still necessary to throw him the extra inning to get to 116? That must be how Robin/Cooper evaluate their starters - if they feel fine, they stay in, regardless of performance.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Can't believe he let Danks start this inning That's how Ventura manages. Get those starters their 6. A decent manager would have pulled Danks in the 5th.

There was some movement today. Ryan Leonards was sent up to the Dash. Olacio down to the Intimidators
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 11:28 AM) Agree the three needs that need to be addressed are RF, 3B, & C. If I'm Hahn, I'm all-in on adding a RF via free agency. Upton & Heyward would be my primary targets (I prefer Justin), but I'd be perfectly fine with Gordon as well if the years weren't ridiculous. Point is that it's incredibly rare in this day in age to have multiple stars who play the same position hit free agency at the same time, let alone two who are still in their late 20s. If we cut bait on Shark & Alexei, there is simply no reason we can't afford one of these guys. Why RF? LF is a far bigger problem. Avi is young, cheap and could improve and is hitting about the same as Melky. Melky Cabrera and his .706 OPS, high contract, and 2 remaining years, is a much bigger problem.
