  1. Went to the game myself. Had a pretty good time, but a little disappointed because was hoping to meet some of the posters. Was in row 12 seat 8. Surrounded by WSI posters. They seemed all right, but was just hoping to be with and meet more of "our" core group. I kind of thought that whoever did the seating arrangement would have kept Sox talk in one solid group and WSI in their group, if anything......just for familiarity and association purposes. Southsider2K4, Big Sqwert, Cubs Suck1.................was nice meeting you!!! Was hoping to meet Chisoxfn, Steff, and other regular posters, but it didn't work out. Maybe another time!!
  2. I got one answered on the air last year and one this year. Last years was, "Hawk and DJ,.....In the history of baseball, do you know of any other LEFT-HANDED knuckleballer besides Wilbur Wood? Hoyt Wilhelm, The Niekro brothers, Charlie Hough Tim Wakefield were all right handers!" Answer, "Hawk said that he knew some guys that threw it once in a wjile, but as a regular lefthanded thrower of a knuckleball......................No!" Couldn't recall one! This years question...."Hawk, you once said that Sam McDowell of The Cleveland Indians was by far the hardest throwing pitcher that you ever faced. Nolan Ryan was in the record books for the longest time for being the hardest thrower at 101 MPH. The radar gun came out after the Sam McDowell era and during the Nolan Ryan era. My Question........You saw them both! How would you compare Sam McDowell to Nolan Ryan??" His answer............ No Comparison!! Sam McDowell definately threw harder!!
  3. Next couple of days in the Suntimes paper should be interesting. Don't know who saw todays game but in the bottom of the second, Hawk ripped the daylights out of Mariotti. He commented on how obsessed he was with trashing Reinsdorf. Twice Hawk called Mariotti an obsessed sick, sick man. He asked DJ "Did you ever see the movie Fatal Attraction? Well I know who Mariotti's idol is in that movie!!" "I'll tell ya Jay!!! You're a lucky lucky guy!! You write for one of the top papers in the nation, and you obviously have some pictures on somebody in The Sun times, and said "Don't lose those pictures Jay!!" You having those pictures (whatever they may be)." "If you lose those pictures........HE GONE!!" "If there is ever a definition of the word hypocrite, you could put Mariotti's picture right beside it!!" All of the above are Hawk's quotes! Man, this sounds like it could get pretty ugly in upcoming days!!
  4. Got a question about the orderr form. I already sent it in, but on the form it states that everyone can meet in the patio area 2 hours before the game. Is there another way in that I am not aware of? The gates open up 1 1/2 hours before the game, not 2 hours as the form states.
  5. My concern. The Yanks always want veteran experience in the playoffs. Shingo has that experience. Not only that, but if we play the yanks in post season, how much will Shingo's addrenalin be flying to get back at us for letting him go after having a 2nd place fininish for rookie of the year last year, and then using him to help us land Gooch, and now when he was starting to work things out, and finally we say "Thanks for everything fella" "We got what we wanted out of you, now go take a hike!!!"
  6. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-doug05.html Scroll down to the bottom of the page on the link. I guess we'll have to see what happens.
  7. Just put my order in today. Don't really know anybody, but since we're all die hard Sox fans, I'm sure we'll have something in common to yak about. Looking forward to the game.
  8. I've mentioned this on another thread once before, but I was born in 1959, "The pennant year"(Great Year-----Thanks Mom & Dad), so to sort of commenorate that, I have collected EVERY Topps brand Sox baseball cards from that year to the present day, which includes rookies. leader cards, oddballs, etc. Any Topps card that has any sort of picture of a White Sox player I have EXCEPT ONE CARD. A 1963 #537 Rookie Al Weis. Why do I not have one. Because he is on the same card as Rookie Pete Rose. Can't afford it to complete my collection. If anyone has, or knows where I can get one of those cards that is beat to death and has little value, please let me know. I don't care about condition of the card. Just want to complete the collection. Thanks! Tom
  9. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) I am worried about the Sox having to face Oak in the playoffs...everyone is well aware of how awful the Sox have played against Oak. My hope would be that if we did play Oakland, that we would be able to beat them. Just as Boston had Yanks on their backs for so long, and finally got past them, it would be nice to get that Oakland monkey off of our backs. If we did, the adrenalin and momentum would highly be in our favor for the next round. Look what it did for Boston last year! I still believe that if we faced and beat Oakland, the pennant race would highly be in our favor.
  10. Disregard the above question. Only meant to post one quote! Not my question which you already answered.
  11. QUOTE(TornLabrum @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) Website = Site you use (or identify more with or whatever) User name = Name you use when posting on that site. For example: I would put White Sox Interactive for my web site simply because I've been posting there almost since the beginning whereas until recently I only came here as a guest. I would use TornLabrum as my user name. QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) Copule of questions. I'll probably be going myself. If I fax an order for one ticket, will I be sitting with the Sox talk group, or wil I just get a "best-available seat anywhere in the park by myself? Not sure how this works, Never did it! Thanks! Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a good time! I'll be on vacation from work that week, so it looks good!
  12. Also, on the order form, on the WEBSITE line.....are they asking for Soxtalk.com and under user name (Rooftop Shots)?
  13. Copule of questions. I'll probably be going myself. If I fax an order for one ticket, will I be sitting with the Sox talk group, or wil I just get a "best-available seat anywhere in the park by myself? Not sure how this works, Never did it! Thanks!
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Nah...its the squirts. I think you've got it right my friend!! There was a game last week where he answered someones e-mail, and as far as eating goes, he says he doesn't eat anything during the game, and that he'll go through 4 diet pepsi's per game.
  15. Some one on Sox talk gave me this sight about a month ago. It has been a great help to me not just for Sox players, but all MLB players. http://www.mlb4u.com/chw.html
  16. Treat her good and take good care of her man!! Anyone that would go out of her way to do something that special for you sounds like a rare gem. She sounds great and obviously seems to really care for you!PLUS........ she's a Sox fan!!! What more could you ask for????? ENJOY!!!!!
  17. QUOTE(wherehaveyougoneharold @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) I've started trying to collect one card of each white sox player/mgr(if they've had a card made while with the sox) since I became white sox-conscious in 1978. I live in Texas now so its hard to find some of the old, spare players. If anyone has some or most of these guys, I'd like to buy them off you. I don't care about condition or year or anything like that, the less expensive the better. All I ask is that they've got "white sox" somewhere on the card. Shawn Abner Terry Bevington Rodney Bolton Pat Borders John Cangelosi Carlos Castillo Tony Catillo Will Cordero Cal Eldred Oscar Gamble Atlee Hammaker Darren Jackson Charles Johnson Mike Lavallier Jerry Manuel J. McKeon Jim Morrison Kelly Paris Tony Phillips Scott Sanderson Dave Stieb Kevin Tapani Danny Tartabull Don Wakamatsu Steve Wapnik Craig Wilson Mike Woodard PM me if you can help. Thank again. Are you looking for Topps brand cards, or "Any" brand name cards with these guys on them. I am a Sox Topps collector, and have quite a few commons in Topps, but in other brands as well. As of now, I'm working a ton of hours , but I'll try and look up what you need ASAP.
  18. Thanks a Ton Guys!!! A Huge help!! That's just one of the many things I have enjoyed since I came to Sox Talk. Not only sharing opinions with others, but it seems that any Sox and/or other related baseball inquirers that are requested or needed,...that there is somebody on this board that knows a way to find the answer at any given time. Thanks again for your respones and replies!!!!
  19. Hi. I have found numerous sights depicting a players salary, bio, stats etc, but I haven't been able to find anything as to where you can do a search on any player in the Majors (Especially The Sox), that gives a reference as to how long his contract is for with the team that he is signed with. I have been asked by some guys at work how long certain Sox players as well as other MLB players are signed for, and I can't seem to find any search info on them that not only depicts when their contract is up, but whether they are also optioned for another year, and/or when they are up for arbitration.. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!
  20. Haven't read all of the posts on this thread, but I have mixed feelings about whether he'll be traded or not. Maybe his bat isn't where we'd like it to be, but who knows how many runs he has prevented from scoring with his glove. He's also got a good team attitude. I'm sure KW takes that all of that into consideration. The other side of it......Crede's contract is up this year. Boras is his agent. KW wil not deal with him. Would he want to get something for Crede now, instead of waiting until the year is out when he'll get nothing in return? Thoughts??????
  21. 9th inning. Lammar Hoyt pitching. Sox up by one run. Reggie Jackson comes to the plate with 2 outs and one man on. Hoyt strikes out Jackson. In the Old Comiskey it was so incredibly loud. The sound from everyone yelling and cheering used to bounce all over the walls in that place. It was deafening. What a thrilling moment that was. That'll be a tough one for me to top!
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) I've got to go with '83. That staff was awesome. '93 was good, but Hoyt, Dot and Banny were just monsters that year. This current staff is capable of surpassing that team. Can't forget that they also had Seaver in there to not only solidify the rotation, but also of how much his experience helped the young staff! With Fisk behind the plate on top of that....... I agree! HANDS DOWN! The best ever!
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Navarro. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Not only did he suck, he blamed everybody else for his failures. I was never so glad to see a player leave the Sox. Hey Yas! Do you remember a pitcher in...I think it was 1976 or so, named Pablo Torealba? The Sox brought him up, and the guy was so bad that after moaning and moaning over and over about him, that Harry Carray made the quote on live broadcast "Pablo Torealba.......Where do they get these guys??" Another pitcher that comes to mind is Juan Agosto (back then.......nicknamed Juan Dis-gusto).
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) I'm 47 years old and never recall not being a Sox fan. I'd have to pin it to 1963 or 64 as to when I really started paying attention. Right there with ya Yas! I was born in the pennant year 1959 (Thanks mom and dad), so even though I really didn't start paying attention until 63' or 64' I couldn't have stonger roots in me than being born on such a great year! To commemorate it, I have been able to collect Every known Sox Topps brand baseball cards from that year to the present day. Brings back a lot of tremendous memories. And to quote the wise guy about cards being on papyrus....."You are wrong my friend!!! That was much later!!! When we were born, they were etched on walls in a cave chiseled in with a rock!
