Merkin mailbag...
QUOTE (VAfan @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) I would agree with this. Delgado could be the power lefty the Sox could really use if he's healthy enough. He'd put down the nonsense of having a rotating DH, which never works. If you sign Delgado, the Sox hitting roster would probably be set, assuming we carry 12 pitchers again. C - AJ 1b -- Konerko 2b -- Beckham SS -- Alexei 3b -- Teahan LF -- Quentin CF -- Rios RF -- DH -- Delgado Bench: Kotsay, Flowers, Vizquel, Nix, Jones With this group, the Sox would be forced to rotate Kotsay/Jones/Nix in RF, or cut Nix and sign a RF. Not the best solution, but probably better than signing a RF and rotating Kotsay/Jones at DH. (BTW -- Ozzie will not DH his back-up catcher.) Jesus... It's bad enough that people are actually mentioning a 38 year old, doesn't like the National Anthem, vetoed two trades to come here Carlos Delgado as a good acquisition (if we are going that route, just give me Jim Thome), but you do realize that is 26 overall on the roster (12+14) you just named (assuming as you said the RF spot gets filled as we don't want a ghost out there)? If there's one player I would love to see the sox buy low on (perhaps a minor league deal), who actually could go back to his numbers a couple years ago and is still in his prime years (I believe is 29 going on 30) is Austin Kearns. He was a superior defensive RF (top 5 in the fielding bible from 05-07 and still is very good looking at his defensive metrics and hell even a pair of eyes you can tell he's good, but was limited to injuries/bad play this past season to really show much.. good LF as well) and could be one change of scenery (maybe one Walker teaching ala Quentin) away from getting back on track as a player. The guy can definitely take a walk (and hit respectively) when he's on. This is assuming KW doesn't make any trades/other signings for the OF (though I will never count him out) during the winter meetings. You get a career .353 obp in Kearns and hope at ST he shows signs (if not I'm sure KW will sign an insurance vet/trade, maybe De Aza shows something with Ozzie?), you can sign Johnson at the DH for more obp (which this team really, really needs to manufacture runs), and try your damnest to see Yo Adrian! on this club (though Konerko is fine) and suddenly your offense becomes much, much better overall.

Uggla expects to be traded during offseason
IMO.. our IF is set. Unless its a considerable upgrade at a position (something KW operates in or for example.. an Adrian Gonzalez at 1B) we are pretty much set and usual rumors about players at IF spots (though it's nice to talk about) should not be getting riled up about. I'm more interested to see what we do in the OF spots (minus Rios in CF) and possibly DH and the bullpen.

Viciedo at bat in Cuba
Right Field.... thats the position I see him taking over/getting moved to down the line. That's probably our weakest position in depth in the minors. Fits well with that cannon of an arm he's got.

Mark Teahen is a quality human being
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) And he goes to Church every Sunday unless there is a game on Pretty much the entire Royals' clubhouse is very religious FYI. In fact, I believe Grienke, Mark Grenzailinefchdjvdk, Gload etc.. all love (or loved) it there because of it.

Jake Fox
Lobbied for this guy for two years now. He's basically a DH, but has a ton of potential with the bat. I'd love to get him, but I'd rather us fill the needs of other areas first and also see if we can find a LH Power and/or OBP hitter.

Kenny Williams interview
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) I think you over-value your own importance... Just a word of mouth.. cool it with post like those bro. Don't like seeing posters (in general) go out on a bad note. **EDIT: Saw you deleted your post, but still an FYI.** God damn I hate my slow ass computer.

Sloppy, but solid win for the Bulls. Brad Miller was just outstanding today. Now I don't really care about the other soon to be free agents leaving us next year, but if he takes a good pay-cut (which I doubt he'll find 13 mil a year on the open market anyways esp. with him aging) I would love to see us bring back Brad Miller as a backup center next year. Sure this is also pending if we leave Noah at the 5 or move him to the 4. (also the Omar Asik scenario as well)

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) Ugh, to me Danks is untouchable. I think his ceiling is much higher than Floyd's. Agreed. Danks upside IMO is much higher than Floyds though I know Jason and some other big Floyd fans will disagree.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) Hair testing is very expensive from what I hear, so unless it's a gov job, it's probably the 'wizz quiz'. It is different in some job requirements. Usually it's for more money jobs (or military in general), but I've personally seen some companies from friends who work downtown (or maybe it was in Indiana) who actually required a hair sample (or sometimes tested for both I believe). Now I honestly can't remember their specific pay, but it wasn't THAT good all in all.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) He doesnt know, they just told him that they would send him a packet of info on nearby places to go for testing and that its a 24 hour policy after receiving the package. If he is peeing in a cup, he should be fine. Now if he was getting a hair sample, normally I would advice to tell anyone to shave their arm-pits and get a military style fade to have little hair on him (or whoever) as possible. But since he's only smoked one time as your saying, I highly, highly doubt it is that extreme to go through all that. Like I said earlier Cranberry juice or green tea and he is good to go. But if he wants to be on the safe... safe side, just buy some cleansing pills (or take both) and drink water for the reminder of the day. Speaking from experience for a long time, I know (or used to in my case now) how to nail down these tests. I used to work at Jewel which required a drug test (theirs was the cup) and that was during my extreme stoner days. Pass that with flying colors.... or perhaps thats what I was looking at after I took the test.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) So this may seem weird but does anybody know any detox methods for weed? A friend of mine just got a job offer a week ago and is worried about a drug test (and yes, it really is a friend). Any safe, proven methods? Kinda funny it was his first time doing it then got the offer (im guessing this helps with only a little bit in his system). Cranberry juice does wonders, or they do have cleansing pills at a local Walgreens/grocery store as well or an enchanted green tea of some kind can help as well. Are they doing hair samples or is he peeing in a cup?

The Tiger Woods Marriage Saga Thread
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) Allegedly. 'Years' is the key word here. Show me a hott chick and somewhere nearby is a guy who is tired of banging her. Just because you drive a Porsche doesn't mean you'd turn down a free ride in a banged up Impala. Should I go on with the tired cliches? That was outstanding.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 02:11 AM) You do realize how old he is, don't you? Why would you want this guy on our team at his age? I just can't understand it. I mean I want Dick Allen back on the team. But the Dick Allen of 30 years ago. I take it you weren't a fan of the Vizquel signing....

Rock and Roll HOF Nominations out
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five got in - in 2008. RunDMC went in this past year. The Hall is trying to bring in hip-hop fans. Run is probably the only influential rap group anyone can make a case for. I don't mind them getting in especially considering they helped change the complexion of hip hop and rock n roll together. I love Flash, LL, etc.. but unless my memory is very hazy about LL, I don't even remember him collaborating with a rock n roll artist much less having any kind of influential mentions in the past. Hell, at this point I hope RHCP gets into the Hip Hop HOF as well. Anthony Kiedis rapping in a song is better than half these jackasses out right now.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) Unless the Cubs completely fall apart, they aren't going to be tied with the Sox for relevance. I can't see that happening under new ownership. Not to mention if the Bulls get a Wade/LeBron/Bosh in FA next year and depending if the Hawks can actually get the role players figured out (or Brian Campbell's contract) and who knows if the Bears will fire Lovie/Turner/Hamilton. I would say the #1 and #2 is up for grabs as you really can't say as of right now. As far as bias, the sox are always #1 in many people's hearts including myself. I just can't see the Bears ever being #5 in this city unless their personel does absolutely nothing this offseason as far as these coaches and perhaps the higher rankings (GM, etc..).
