QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) I agree with what you are saying. I dont follow the minor leagues much, but when the trade was made, I questioned it because of the same financial obligations. That being said, I don't remember anyone thinking Hudson would be this good, most were more upset about losing his low salary, not because of his pitching dominance and the Sox minor league system was still being questioned when he was here. The thing is, Hudson wouldn't have to be "this" good this year or any other year to be a valuable cog for the Sox. I personally don't feel vindicated because he's dominated since the trade. Let's say ultimately he tops out as a 3-4 starter type. That's still extremely valuable considering his cost. We don't have to have 5 numbers 1 starters. If (big if) Jackson dominates next year, then you'll REALLY have to pay him for 2012 and beyond. And we all know who his agent is. We're already stuck with Peavy, who let's face it, will be a major injury risk from this point on, Buehrle is a FA at the end of next year and we still have to lock Danks up. So yeah, there was just not a lot to like about this trade. And the fact that we stumbled miserably down the stretch and won't even sniff the Twins makes this trade an epic fail.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) They better hope that Cliff Lee remembers how he used to pitch before he came to Texas, or their first playoff trip in 11 years will be worthless. I agree. They definitely can't afford to lose any game that Lee starts.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) Let's discount the 6.32 ERA Hudson put up for the Sox in the AL when they were fighting for a playoff spot. I won't argue about the fact that Hudson will be due like 8-10 million over the next 6 years, while Jackson is due that much in 2011, that makes it a bad move. But plenty of pitchers have showed up to the majors with a hot streak, then been figured out and hit hard, which could happen to Hudson too, hes only 16 starts in. Its funny how everyone around here complains about how bad the Sox system is, but then when someone gets traded, they just get upset about how he good that player is and he should not have been traded. You need to go back to the Jackson/Hudson original trade thread. I hated this trade from day 1. And I'm not saying Hudson is CY yet. But a 7-1, 1.69 ERA in 11 starts is a little more than a simple hot streak. And the fact that the system is so bad is one of the reasons (the main one being the financial aspect) that this trade was so awful. When you're up against the wall financially, you're not in any position to trade one of the few valuable, and more importantly cheap, assets you have for mediocrity.

And the Rangers clinch the West. Nolan Ryan and that front office have done a tremendous job in getting that team back to relevance after being down for a while (you could see this coming last year). They've done it with three outstanding trades and a loaded farm that's really come through for them.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Another absolutely dominating start for Hudson. He's easily one of the best young pitchers in baseball in the NL now. Next time you want to make a trade KW...please don't! That's like telling Kirstie Alley to skip the second helping. But yea, we're talking 11 straight really good to dominant starts. You figure a full-time starter (health being key) will make at least 30 starts in a season. So that's over a third of a typical season starts wise for Hudson. Think it's safe to say he's the real deal and Kenny and Co. made a gross mis-evaluation (much like thinking Brian Anderson was an actual baseball player).

White Sox need Morel at 3B
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) It's probably pretty likely that Morel would hit better than Omar because Morel would make up for being a worse hitter by actually hitting with some power. If Guillen stays...my guess is that Omar Vizquel starts the season at 3b and they try to keep Morel in AAA until at least the Super 2 arbitration deadline in early June...both to save the arbitration year and to give Morel some extra AB's in AAA. You only do that for elite prospects. Not the Brent Morel's of the world. And how pathetic is that Teahen extension looking right now. KW is in a massive slump.

Shame on greg for forcing excellent posters to break down Ozzie's overall ineptitude as a player. Even his annoying as f*** kids knows he sucked.

Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) Since Tony LaRussa (1986), the Sox have had 6 managers. Not exactly a revolving door. Ozzie is the only one to bring a WS title to the team, but it wasn't all him. Not by a long shot. The way that team clicked early in the year and in the playoffs, many managers could have helmed that ship. And as far as your comment about laughing at the rest of us when we second guess the next manager, of course we will second guess some moves. I'm sure you will, too. You can't tell me that you approved of every move and decision Ozzie made...or can you? You obviously don't know greg well. Ozzie could call for an intentional walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game and greg would be like "Well, what if the guy hit a slam? Better to lose by one than by four. That's Ozzie, baby."

Walker May Retire -- according to the Sun Times
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 02:29 AM) Be mad all you want, but don't call that season a fluke. So if we would have lost in the ALCS it would have been a typical Sox magical season (only making the playoffs before meekly dropping out), but just because we made the playoffs and excelled once in the playoffs, you call it a fluke. Sir, that flat out pisses me off. DONT CALL 05 A FLUKE!!! If you do, give me some reasons. The team STEPPED UP in the postseason. It's not that hard to make the postseason. Once the Sox got there this time, the Sox excelled. It was no f***ing fluke. The Sox, who had some f***ing good, PROVEN baseball players, made the playoffs, could have wet the bed (as all other Sox postseason teams in our lifetimes have done) but didn't. The team kicked ass and even swept Houston's ass in the WS. Houston being there also was a "fluke" right? Only they f***ing got swept. Name some other "flukes" for me throughout sports history. My guess is anytime a non-No. 1 seed in any sport wins it all, it's a f***ing fluke?? Not in my world. Making the playoffs when you play in the Central in theory should be easy. We made the playoffs and kicked some f***ing ass. It was no damn fluke! Any Sox fan that thinks we won by a fluke sure confuses me. I could see a Cub fan saying that, not a Sox fan. p.s. If the Twins win it all this year it won't be a fluke. It'll be a division champ making the playoffs and stepping up and competing and winning when it counts. Ban me if you want, but I truly believe that if any alleged Sox fan believes '05 was a f***ing "fluke" he is no true fan. What is a f***ing fluke anyway? Any team that's not favored that COMPETES and wins it all??? Sure it was unexpected. But The Sox are the 05 World Series champions. They WON IT, not by any damn fluke. lol. greg went postal. Ain't nobody banning you. Calm down. And when I sober up I'll explain to you why I think that year was a fluke.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2010 -> 07:22 AM) Cole Hamels since the All-Star Break: 5-3, 90.2 IP, 100K, 1.89 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, .202 BAA If he pitches anything like he did in the 08 playoffs, then I think the Phillies have to be the favorite to win it all with that 1-2-3 punch in the rotation. They're the model organization in baseball right now. I fully expect the Phillies to get to the World Series again. And when Cole Hamels is your #3 man, you're pretty much the favorite.

This is good news if true. I want sweeping changes throuout the organization. 2005 was priceless (and a fluke). But we've been a loser organization for too long now.

Don't tease me Trib...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 03:07 AM) Sliding is a talent, and if it's his craftiness that has increased his stolen base percentage, than that's to his credit and shouldn't be taken away from him. And, while his OBP is higher due to a career high in his HBP, his BABIP is also 25 points lower than his career average. Some of that is correlated to USCF not being a great park to hit for average, but part of it is attributable to bad luck as well. Juan Pierre isn't a great player, but really, he's been everything the Sox could have asked for and he's been a good player. He'd be better suited hitting 9th than 1st, but he's almost positively going to be worth what the Sox are paying him overall, he's almost certainly going to be worth his salary next season ($5 mill), and he fills a spot in the lineup and brings a different offensive dimension to the club, for whatever that is worth. I think it's more likely that he ends up putting up something closer what he did in his first 2 years in LA next season - .290/.330/.345/.675 with great defense - which will probably end up being worth about 1.5 WAR, give or take based on his defensive performance of course (but it should be good), and he'll be a positive contributing member to the White Sox 2011 team. I hate that I agree with everything you said here. Because Juan Pierre makes me want to hurl. Even when he's playing well he sucks. If that makes any sense.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 08:51 PM) He's only 25 too. There is just a ton of amazing young talent in the majors today. That Rockies team is going to be really fun to watch for a while. I called it before the season (specifically the young arms). It's a great time to be a fan of the game. Unfortunately, the Sox, IMO, are in the bottom 10 as far as overall talent goes. And by that I mean major and minor league talent.

White Sox Current Draft standings
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 02:54 AM) I wouldn't say have to finish at or below .500. Going 4-9 is certainly a possibility that puts the Sox are 83-79, and all 3 of Oakland, Florida, and New York can get relatively hot and finish above the Sox in the standings. I figure they'll probably end up with the 16th overall pick, which is a pretty terrible spot to be in. That's what drives me crazy about all these 2nd/3rd place finishes. We've only had one truly bad year during the KW era (2007), but we've missed the playoffs 8 times in 10 years. I'd rather lose 100 games and get that automatic top 3 draft pick than win 88 games, miss the playoffs, and get a high teens/early 20's pick.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) Yeah, we went 7-0 with Manny to start, and then now we are like 2-9 or something. I didn't see people saying we were 7-0 because of him, so why are people saying we are 2-9 because of him? He hasn't been on the team long enough to have that big of an impact. It was a bad acquisition in the end, but not because of anything he has done or hasn't done. I agree completely.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) I give DAllen so much credit for stating how big of a disaster the Manny acquisition would be. Needless to say, Manny will not be back next season unless he goes Tulo over the next two weeks. Thing is we fell out of the race so rapidly that Manny didn't get the chance to help or hurt us.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Sammy Sosa, July 1998 was pretty darn close. I guess the fact he's single-handedly (with a little help from Cargo) pushing the Rockies towards the playoffs makes it a little more amazing.

And that's a White Sox season!
QUOTE (balfanman @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 06:52 AM) I agree 100% as well. I hate losing to the Twins seemingly every year, but let's face it, We are the losers here, we are the team that sucks in comparison, we are the team that needs to step it up and with the odd exception here or there we have not. I don't know what the solution is, but I believe that the first step for us, especially K. W. & Ozzie is to admit that they are better than we are and let's get our act together. The whole bashing the Twins because they consistantly beat us is definitely the wrong approach and makes us look like sore losers. Are you serious? Ozzie's slurping of the Twins over the years has been downright embarrassing.

QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 06:12 AM) well it is for the most part correct.. no one has seen him in that league and hes playing for a crap team with nothing to lose right now.. He wasn't pitching like that for us before we dealt him this year.. Yes, because 3 starts is a legitimate body of work to judge a guy by. And for the 4375274734274844 time, Jackson was pitching under the same conditions and flat sucked. And it looks as if he's reverting back to his hit or miss self with us. Just a putrid trade by a GM that's been absolutely brutal the last 2+ years.

Manny Should Just Retire...
Manny hasn't been here long enough to form an opinion, good or bad. And even if he went 1999 the rest of the season it wouldn't mean a thing, really. It's just turned out to be a waste of an acquisition.
