  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:35 PM) Nah, its 12:33, we probably won't know anything official till the weekend or possibly till Monday or Tuesday, I thought. How was it with Rios last year? First it was a a team claimed him, then it came out it was the White Sox, not sure how long it took. I thought it was confirmed that it was the Sox rather quickly. The acquisition happened about 2 days later.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) If we don't get him is there anyone else out there we could get? This would be a bummer. A couple guys already cleared waivers (LaRoche for one), but I would imagine KW would have made a claim on someone like that if he was interested. I don't know. It could be another huge letdown.
  3. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Heyman saying multiple teams claimed Manny, it was a fun ride, we're not gonna get him. I would think if multiple teams claimed him, one might have been an NL team. Otherwise, who would have higher dibs in the AL?
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) I've said for a while I dont think the Sox need to add a bat. I'll be honest and say that I wasn't terribly upset that KW didn't pay for a bat at the 7/31 deadline. But, if he can get Manny for next to nothing, I'll be more than happy.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Just pulled my pants back up. Well, leave em unbuttoned. I'm thinking positive. Manny should be a White Sox by Monday
  6. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) An unknown team has claimed Manny Ramirez on waivers, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times (on Twitter). http://twitter.com/SPTimesRays/status/22283650927 Hopefully the Sox...
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:00 AM) Burnett is every bit as bad as Freddy this year. I was looking the stats and realized that Burnett is not much better than Freddy. Burnett has less wins and more losses, but his ERA is slightly better. If the Sox offense shows up tonight and Freddy pitches decent, there's a chance.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) that report makes sense, there's been reports all month both sides are flat out done with each other. I wonder if he's even saying that he won't ask for an extension in a trade? That's what I first took from it, but maybe it was just in reference to the Dodgers. On a side note, one baseball figurehead said that Manny might be in the market for $6 or $7 million next year as a DH. Think he'd be worth that in a Sox uniform?
  9. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) When I was watching the wrap-up on MLB Network Wednesday night, they said the Sox had already claimed Hoffman. I scrambled to find anything and I still haven't, and they never corrected themselves. I don't know what the deal is with that. From the rumblings I heard, the Sox never confirmed they claimed him, but apparently the Brewers wouldn't deal him...I wonder if Hoffman nixed it if he has a NTC.
  10. Feel bad for Strasburg, but not necessarily for Rizzo. The Nationals hopes for 2011 have all but vanished...especially if Dunn leaves.
  11. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) hawpe to rays per rosenthal Interesting...
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) I was completely joking about that scenario. I figure as much...but there's always wishful thinking. Maybe Manny would come play for free if JR let him keep his hair...
  13. Rosenthal reporting via Twitter that Manny is NOT asking for an extension.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) Has there ever been a scenario where a guy just got up and left town and went to the team he wanted to play for and just started playing for free? I doubt it, and I wouldn't expect Manny to be the first to ever do that.
  15. Bullpen arm, I assume? I wonder who they could be targeting? Could be an interesting weekend...
  16. Jackson's stuff was nasty. He made a lot of hitters look foolish. The way he started, I expected him to have 15 K's, but 10 is certainly good outing.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) Based on what we've seen so far, what would our ideal rotation be if we were to make the playoffs? Buehrle Jackson Danks Floyd
  18. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) sphincter so tight we could hardly breathe...awesome choice of words hawk I liked Stone's response. "...yes."
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) How do you remember so much of what I write on here? I can't remember anything about specific posters. I take that as a compliment my opinion holds so much water. IMO Jones was part of the problem of not having a good DH. He was part of the Kotsay/Jones experiment which hasn't worked. If Jones is as good as you guys say, why haven't we just played him every day. By now wouldn't he have 40 homers or something ridiculous? I'm not all over Jones BTW. When I respond in a thread about Jones why do you say I'm all over Jones? I didn't start the thread. It's a thread about Jones and I personally wish we didn't have he or Kotsay on the team. Teahen as well. If you look back, just about everyone agrees that he can't play everyday. And no one has said he's that good. What most of us are saying is that for $500K, Jones has been fine for what we needed him. Good defense (including late inning replacement) and power from the right side. His BA stinks, but when he gets a hit, the ball usually becomes a souvenier.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) Is responding to your thread good discussion? OK, KW could kick my ass unless I had a bat or something, then I'd get arrested if I fought him with that, so I wouldn't. I still say it was stupid to acquire Jones. He stunk in Texas and isn't doing much of anything here but making outs. You are an interesting guy, Greg. On subject though, Jones has been worth more than the half a million he was signed for. I would not want him as an everyday player, and I don't think he's even capable of being one anymore. But I'll take the 17 HRs, 40+ RBIs, and good (occasionally great) defense he's given us so far.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) And I can't believe you would question a move by Kenny Williams, Greg. He knows more about baseball than any of us and brought us a World Series. And he could kick your ass! Oh it's on now!
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) Jones was a ridiculous acquisition. We found out the same thing Texas did. He's no good anymore. If you want defense, there are plenty of .200 hitters who can play defense. If they had signed him for $5 million, I might agree. But for $500,000, he's been fine. Good defense with some power when he hits the ball. I'm okay with him being here, playing occasionally, and especially being a late inning defensive replacement.
  23. The Sun Times reported that Manny has been claimed by the Sox. But that was early this morning. Sounds like speculation at best?
  24. Watching Jones at the plate, I hope to hell the rumor that Manny has been claimed is true.
