Ted Williams made the eephus pitch famous in an All-Star in 1939 or so when Rick Sewell threw one to Ted, and he hit it a country mile. That was entertainment. It was hardly the pitch of the day, Rex.

Come on. I am not familiar with Ricky Ledee's stats, and I am not going to take the time to look them up, but compare Robbie's stats with the Sox to anyone. I don't care about Ricky Ledee. Ricky Ledee was not the point of my post. I think it is a joke and an insult for Ozzie to name that clown (Robbie) our DH. He can't hit, he can't run, and he obviously can't hustle, because he doesn't. I lost respect for Ozzie. The manager quit.

No offense to Ichiro or to you young guys who want to see the record broken, but I always hate to see really old, great records broken. Like George Sisler's. 257 hits in one year, when, in 1930? I remember as a kid hearing about that record, and I was impressed. Still am. I wish I had seen him play. A few years ago Manny Ramirez threatened Lou Gehrig's RBI record, and I pulled against him. Same with Maris in 1960. And Ricky. But Sisler's record of 257 hits is truly special. Over 70 years, and no one has touched it until this year. To say in a cavalier fashion that "I hope he breaks the record" without any thought to who set the record, when he set it, and what the hitting conditions were at the time, seems very short sighted and the product of someone who is not old enough to appreciate the history of the game. Nothing against Ichiro.

This great hitter will finish with about 2300 hits, and he didn't make it to the bigs until he was 26, even though he was tearing apart AAA pitching for 2-3 years. Another tribute to the stupidity of generalmismanagers. He also lost at least two years to serious hamstring injuries. When he was really hitting, he took a ton of walks. He had the ablility to have 3000 hits. And he was a fine third baseman for many years. He is HallOfFame in my book.

Jason, Fields has had a very successful year at W/S. So has Sweeney. They performed about the same and Fields had the benefit of three, count 'em three, years of college ball. Got to move them both. They will succeed at AA, I am sort of certain.

Robbie was a DH today for the second time in a week. You ask what it is that I am talking about? I think it is a frigging joke that Ozzie puts that washed up, can't hit a lick Robbie Alomar into the lineup as a DH. So, you might say that I was being a little bit sarcastic. But if there is someone out there who can think of a worse hitter named as DH at least twice in one season, please enlighten us all. The first time, I thought Ozzie was trying to be funny for whatever sick reason. The second time, I think he insulted us all. We are a very weak hitting team, granted. What message is Ozzie sending, and to whom is he sending it by naming Robbie his DH?
-
Why wouldn't they move him up next year?
-
Where does Robbie rank among the all-time DH-s?

BobDylan, who is the picture on your posts?

Anybody know how Bittner did this year?
-
On the White Sox, he could.

Seattle's coming to town. Wonder if Reed will play. Has anyone heard if athe M's brought him up?
-
He was untouchable that year, sort of like Jeremy Reed in 2003.
-
Does anybody know how Jeremy Reed's forearm is holding up?
-
He is not heavy. He's fat.

They have to consider the 40 mman roster. I don't know the current number anymore.
-
To you guys who were talking about possible draft picks for Maggs.................. we have to offer him 80% of whatever he made in 2004, which will amount to $11.2 MM give or take. The risk is that he will take it. If he refuses, then we get one or two picks. So I think Levine is dead wrong. We will make the offer and see what happens after that. I'm sure JR would take a chance on him for one year at $11.2MM.

Coop might be right, but whenever we brought him in during the eighth inning, it was because no one else could get us out of the eighth. Not counting early season appearances.
-
A few games ago Hawk said that the team went downhill after Torrrri Hunter did his cheap shot on Jamie Burke without a hint of retaliation from our beloved White Sox. I think he might be right.
-
Rex, they are advocating a 50 man roster just for the White Sox.
-
Now I know what Pamela and Joe have in common. I love this board.
-
You're right. Our Charlotte roster is loaded with big league prospects.
-
Don't those guys (Honel, Wing, Malone) have to be protected on the 40 man roster? If so, one out of three, maybe.
