7/25 Game Thread: Cubs @ White Sox 7:10CT
southsideirish71 replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in 2023 Season in Review
Frank Thomas keeps talking about how this is a bunch of superstars that just are not clicking. Bullshit. I love you Frank, but that is bullshit. -
I was at the game today due to a corporate event. I got there early to help setup the suite. Things I noticed. I watched several cubs players doing the same knee drills that Ron Washington does in Atlanta. I see them using quite a bit of the same drills I have seen in Atlantas pregame. I watched Dansby working out for almost 2 hours before the game ( he didnt play in the game ) but that was quite a bit of work. I watched several players taking a good amount of grounders. Very position focused. It started with basic glove work, then they flipped the ball to the coach at home so he could hit it to get the batted ball reaction. They worked on this for a good amount of time. The cubs are bad, but it looks like they are working on things that successful teams work on. Now my question is, how often do we see our players doing this. How much is Tim Anderson out there taking grounders working on his defense and his craft. How about the rest of them. I have been to pregame before at US Cellular and I have seen a lot of things but I dont see this there outside of spring training.

2024 MLB Draft Order (Reverse Standings)
southsideirish71 replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Probably more like an undersized grinder who has these baseball intangibles. -
Dear White Sox. No more fat pitchers. Especially fat pitchers over the age of 30. It doesn't work out well for the sox.
-
Typical. We need these players to play to a decent level so we can flip them. Yet the minute the clock strikes all star break they go on their annual price killer by regressing to the mean.

I love love love this pick. He is 17 years old. This is the draft version of getting an international signing. He has crazy physical tools.

https://www.mlb.com/video/2023-draft-calvin-harris-c?t=mlb-draft This isnt a warm review of his catching numbers.

Unfortunately I think thats exactly it. They are going to use this to restock the MLB side with low cost bodies to replace non-cost effective vets. This is not going to be a rebuild as it should be. Hahn wants to "retool". So think some farm guys plus MLB guys looking for 1 year prove it deals.
-
I was hoping for a HSer with a high ceiling at 3. But the protypical Sox pick, he projects as a reliever college pitcher.
-
Money savings makes Jerry very very happy.
-
Greg would be happy we won more games than the Red Sox. But this is the worst case scenario when the team one ahead gets players that would look good in black and white.
-
Hahn is thinking quick safe climbers who can provide low cost mlb fill ins. Think college arms. The wheels are off the bus and Hahn is thinking survival not long term goals.
-
This screams a safe mediocre replacement for Anderson . This way they can trade him. It’s a mlb 2024/25 roster move not a long term plan. This is a guy playing checkers not chess.
-
The only way this gets fixed is when the unfirable band of fools who have steered this team into the iceberg year after year are all gone. That’s when the current ownership is no longer the owner. Nothing gets fixed until Reinsdorf is gone.
-
Why is Eloy moving his back foot away from the plate. During his swing, his back leg moves towards 3rd base. How the f*** are you going to hit a slider when you are bailing away with your back foot.
-
Which person is responsible for the 5'6 zero pop slap hitter we picked at #4 that is currently patrolling the minor leagues of the cubs. Because whomever that guy is he sucks at talent evaluation.
-
Do you still embrace the white sox. Let me introduce you to their first base coach Daryl Boston. Still employed by the team.
-
f*** that guy. Makes Bill Wirtz seem like a great owner.

This has been a weird front office thing for a while. Not putting people on the DL, not putting them on the 60 day DL when its obvious that they are not coming back for a while. Its almost like Hahn has no idea on how it works. -

Great, then he should be a DH day one. Playing him in RF sends the wrong message. Especially game one of the preseason. -

I think the RF choice is the more pressing issue. They went out and got a LFer because he couldnt keep healthy playing the field. Now we are going to pretend that him in RF at any reps is any better. How about the fact that he has a noodle for an arm. Lots of dudes going first to 3rd on him this year if he plays the field. He should be a DH day one just to press this home that this is his position. Not letting the inmates run the asylum.
