  1. One 37 yr old playing DH is enough .Adding a soon to be 39 yr old expecting him to play 2nd base and OF coming off a terrible season would be really pushing your luck.
  2. Let's take the best case scenario for Collins and Mazara without EE since that's what you preferred. In order for Collins to play and produce, he likely gets the majority AB at DH against RHP pitching, Maybe you'd argue it would be Grandal but if McCann is starting at C it'll be mostly when there's a LH starter on the mound so Grandal gets the DH AB's against lefties When a RH starter is pitching Grandal is the starting C . So to not overexpose McCann against righties you give Collins a lot of AB's against RH starters at DH or at least a lot more than McCann. Again best case scenario is a productive Collins hitting HR's, getting on base, being the strong side DH the whole season because Grandal will be catching an awful lot. Probably around 475-500 AB's for Collins the whole year. Best case scenario for Mazara is he breaks out hit's, 35 HR's .850+ OPS give you adequate D as a strong side platoon and gets 550 AB's. RF last year had a 44 sOPS+ last year, the lowest of any position on the team. A normal replacement level year gives you a 99 sOPS+ from Mazara . A breakout season has the potential for the Mazara trade to be the biggest upgrade the Sox make for 2020 and a normal year still is a big upgrade. So the max difference in AB's is likely around 75 AB's between Collins and Mazara in the best case without EE scenario . So basically one being a "starter" and one being a platoon DH means little. I think the potential downside with EE is much higher because of his age. He also has been very consistent but mother nature will win eventually and it's coming soon just not too soon we hope. That means you pretty much ignore his age which ignores the downside . You also ignore the age of Mazara which ignores the upside so how can one get a B+ while the other one gets a D ? Upside is better than downside isn't it ?
  3. The asking price on McCann can't be way high simply because this is his final year with the Sox and he's had 1 good year in his career and that was last year after being non tendered, He also grades out as pretty poor in pitch framing. Traditional type catcher things like calling a good game and game prep alone don't get you very far. As many will say he's worth more to the Sox.
  4. This is how I see it. I have the same opinion as BDB about the EE signing. I liked the rotating catcher DH thing to get Collins AB's but still like the EE signing because I understand it and though pretty damn old we can hope he doesn't fall off dramatically. I put Mazara in the same boat as Collins, which some would call a rebuilding move. But it's really not . All teams even contending teams work young players into the lineup. The problem is we are coming out of the rebuild and trying to get good so we want as many good players as possible but that doesn't mean we abandon all youth and shouldn't search for upside. Those 2 things should be a constant search no matter your position. Is Robert a rebuild move ? Yes. Madrigal ? Kopech, Cease, Lopez ? Yes they all are. But we are all hoping they are big upgrades to the production last year in CF, 2nd base and rotation.. We already know or are pretty sure that if Mazara and EE have their normal years they are a huge upgrade for RF and DH with the potential for a lot more .For Mazara even if you have to squint to see the upsid to hit 40 HR's at least you still see it. To give the move a D you are wearing blinders and you are still pretty likely to get 20 and .800 OPS as long as they don't over expose him to LHP . Fly ball LHP OK, GB LHP not OK.
  5. Found those on youtube where you can just copy and paste the url and it works. Can't do that on MLB Network site or even NBCSN.
  6. Yea you never know and everyone posts far less reliable twitter sources just for kicks . So there's no harm in posting a guy like Fake Cishek. If you want to think he's legit, great. If you think he isn't, great too. Discussing whether or not you think he is legit doesn't change the fact that you won't ever know for sure. He stays on top of things re: the White Sox so it's all good.
  7. You posted in another thread called "White Sox future outlook" . I think any national news from MLB Network and other sources or evaluation of current and future Sox players should go there.I've been posting videos there .
  8. https://www.mlb.com/video/encarnacion-on-joining-white-sox Encarnacion and Hahn thoughts on joining the team and what he brings.
  9. You are on top of things as usual. Were these higher or lower than expected ? I would imagine it's negligible either way.
  10. Last year with the Yankees he made a little more than half a million and adj. salary of under half a million. He had a good year in a part time roll and will be 33 in April. Engel roughly made the same as Cameron last year. Engel won't get a noticeable increase for 2020. So the question is how much more will Cameron make this year being a year older with a better season under his belt but in a limited roll. I don't think $1M for 2020 is out of the question and you'd have to consider that super cheap.
  11. Oh i like some of those. The Moncada one with the Metallica type font for the M and A is pretty cool cuz you know Moncada and Metallica both start with M and end with A so i like the creativity in the thought process.
  12. You should define what you think is pretty good. Do you remember reading he got better when he went to the pen or do you have something to back that up ? I can't see any stretch in the game logs where he was any good. Also have to take into consideration half his games being in a pitcher friendly park. repeating AA, a heck of a lot of walks, wild pitches and HBP's. Being LH and being a high draft pick only takes you so far.
  13. At least this kind of stat doesn't make my eyes glaze up and my head feel foggy, Hell I even took a stab at using sOPS+ recently.
  14. Yes this what what I was hinting at when I used a bases loaded no outs situation in my example and said it was ideal to get out of that situation with only 1 or no runs scoring and I knew there was a stat about run expectancy but I couldn't recall what it was called.
  15. I get the general feeling that Donaldson is a guy focused on his stats. He is very into launch angle and once said if he never hit another ground ball again he wouldn't care.So it is possible he is that into his own stats and might be looking to be in the best situation possible along with the money of course to pad his stats and make a legit finish to his career and wants to make the HOF. He might have some analytics guy who breaks down pitchers in each division looking for guys he hits particularly well, fly ball pitchers or whatever else he thinks will help him most.
  16. Thanks for posting this . I also took it from here and used it in the other thread about the Future of the Sox which is kind of a catch all to how the national media views or has been viewing the Sox and the off season.
  17. Just saw this in a new thread . Probably belongs here.
  18. I assume that you mean by giving up a run you mean that runs were not charged to him. I say this because another important stat is strand rate for a relief pitcher. Let's say you come in with the bases loaded and no outs. You can give up a couple of singles that score all 3 runners. That's not good but the runs are all charged to the guy who put those runners on base . If the reliever gets out of the inning with no further runs , he is not charged with any runs thus preserving his ERA but doing bad in the runners stranded rate even though in that particular situation giving up 1 run or less is ideal. It's easier said than done.
  19. There's also a ton of recent Sox video's from MLB Network here https://www.mlb.com/video/search?query=Chicago White Sox&tag=teamid-145 Three alone on the Robert signing . A long interview with Bennetti on the Hot Stove Show. Over 7 minute Interview with Keuchel on Hot Stove. Interview with Cooper about Keuchel and Gio Gonzales on SiriusXM A segment on the Encarnacion signing with Joel Sherman and Steve Corcoran of the Athletic showing how the Sox players acquired addressed their worst areas and used sOPS+ to show it. Most here used the WAR stat I used that stat a few days ago with a post on Mazara's ground ball , fly ball and ground out stats for the 1st time ever and couldn't remember seeing anyone else ever use it until i just saw that Encarnacion segment where they brought up how bad RF and DH, CF and 2nd base were in 2019 Kind of cool just using something brand new to me and seeing it used on a show. Just shows you can teach an old dog new tricks as long as the tricks aren't too complicated.
