Maybe so but Zobrist is toast.

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
I suppose if it is measuring fielding skill and luck then I don't have too much use for it . Just like with much else in life you make your own luck. Some hitters just have a knack for hitting them where they aint'. Maybe there isn't too many of those type of hitters any more. Perhaps the Gwynn's, Carew's and Brett's are relics of the past and few today can beat the numbers machines that say where to play to take hits away , It's why walks are almost as important as hits now. It's why the 3 outcome players are the norm now and make baseball boring. It might also be why everyone loves Madrigal so much , such a unique player . People see a throw back to simpler times perhaps. Make contact, put the ball in play ,hustle ,field your position well. An actual living fossil and reminiscent of an era of the Go Go Sox of Fox ,Aparicio, and Rivera.

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
I never do understand why HR's aren't counted in BABIP. Do they just omit HR's from the whole stat ? Seems to me HR's are balls in play since they are fair balls and count as a hit. If a ball is hit above a HR line but a fielder robs the HR it counts against BABIP right ? I guess in play technically means in the field of play where a fielder can make a play on a ball. At least make a separate stat that includes HR's like BAoFB ( batting average on fair balls).

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
Did you notice the 3rd (Abreu, Moncada) Sox player on that exit velocity list? Another guy with a high walk rate. None other than Zack Collins.

Year in Review (2019 Soxtalk)
I agree he flashed through my mind while i was reading the thread. I don't know what made him leave. Maybe the new influx of posters being a little too brash. I'd rather avoid most run ins with posters unless I can have arguments without getting nasty and try to avoid trigger words that upset people. Maybe many don't care about that but I'd rather not use the forum to act like a tough guy just because it's easy. It's much harder to conduct yourself with some dignity. I know he still lurks but maybe not posting is better for his blood pressure.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Oh we must inform @Quin that even Keuchel compares himself to Buerhle or at least likes him.

Year in Review (2019 Soxtalk)
@Look at Ray Ray Run Always nice to see a classy post. There is a cornucopia of wonderful posters here and it's why I've been coming here for over 15 years. And many thanks to Jason (owner) and the Argonauts (moderators} for keeping this place going and for being good sheriffs. Rock on !

Not that too many read the long post. But anyone else get the feeling he is an insider ? Maybe a scout. Knew an awful lot about the families of some players. Saw Robert play when he was 17. Maybe Hawk with someone helping him with the post with the colors and bold type. Some kind of older man judging by his name.

Might be the longest post in the history of Soxtalk except for poppysox who quoted it twice to make it twice as long.

Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming
So 6 years of Collins for 1 year of a clubhouse cancer ?

How good do YOU think we can be next season?
This is basically what I think so split the difference and get 81 to 85 wins as we now stand.

Sox still looking at Puig?
Yes thank you for the statistical help which backed up exactly what I was saying.I stuck up for Colome all year because he was getting results but I knew his FIp showed he was pitching in some luck. I believe that only to a certain extent because results matter more and people use FIP to push the narrative of future gloom and are ready to pounce even during a slight bit of misfortune that all relievers go through. I remember distinctly when Marshall had a bad spell and the reactionaries on here game threading about he is who we thought he was. People now use some of these stats to take all the fun out of watching a game. He's getting lucky. Stats say he isn't as good as he looks. That is not to say I am blind to these things which why I posted what you quoted. We need more K's and less walks that was plain to see without advanced stats and we all know the fickle nature of arms in the pen to begin with. I am not so concerned with Colome because he has been a consistent reliever for a few years but he will probably be worse just because he was very good and that is hard to sustain. Bummer is the only other one we can trust to a high degree. The rest are hit and miss.

Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA
Didn't see that . Oh well don't have Hulu so guess I'll have to wait a few years to see if it's any good.

Sox still looking at Puig?
Or 2 . The Sox got a lot of quality innings from Marshall and Cordero and an excellent year from Colome . Colome is in his walk year in 2020 but even so it's hard to see him as good as he was last year. Expecting the same kind of years from Marshall and Cordero is why we can say it's close to a black hole especially when you toss in the miserable year Herrera had, A few quality reinforcement will help. The second half of the season should see a lot of changes with guys coming back from injury or seeing what you get from some of the more interesting arms in the minors to augment the rotation or the BP.

I just watched it again . Also love me some Catherine Zeta -Jones and she looked fantastic. I kept pausing it when they showed albums seeing which ones I could recognize . There was one scene where a black guy customer was telling Cusack, Black and the other employee that they were snobs and he was holding some albums and the one on top looked like Whipped Cream and other Delights by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I think half the albums they sold were because of that cover. Oh and if you haven't seen the trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 go watch it . It's great especially if you like the New Order song Blue Monday.

I always love me some Jack Black. School of Rock, High Fidelity. Tenacious D.

So What Happens to Zack Collins?
I don't think that's it. Collins has done everything the Sox have asked and he will continue to do so. I think they like him and he could not have done any better than he did when they sent him back down for July and August. He literally was hitting like his hair was on fire . Just wildly good numbers. I was like @michelangelosmonkey. I preferred a Collins/McCann etc DH platoon over buying a DH. I'm good with EE because he is a very consistent power hitter. Age is of course a worry but he's still putting up impressive stats. Everyone in the majors and AAA hit with a juiced ball so no reason to downgrade Collins for that. If he was a sure thing as a catcher this is not even a debate but he's not . That's the reason for buying a DH for just year+ team option. Robert , Madrigal, Kopech Cease they all have to play. There are not other viable options because after all playing the youngsters is what this is all about Some fit in right away others have to wait, I can understand questioning his defensive abilities but he's done everything the Sox wanted him to and passed with flying colors at least in July and August . He can further help himself by being a good solider and proving those 2 months can be a bit longer lasting and when opportunity knocks again kick the damn door down.

Steve Stone Hinting At Another Move: Not Puig / Castellanos
Ha honestly it was the lower case z that threw me off or a feeble old mind. Not really sure.

I know your thing is your own funky nicknames for players but sometimes the thought might not come through to the reader. As in this case I am left wondering if Benzo is Benintendi ? or some super utility guy i can't remember . Oh wait it took me a while Ben Zobrist. BenZo.

Yep with Manfred Mann performing it and making it a hit. Quinn the Eskimo .
