QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) Does Lip still think Avi should be released? Lip is one of about 100 on here. More last year before it became apparent the Sox were rebuilding .Long way to go.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) Fair enough, but that's the result of good contact. It's not sustainable obviously, but if he keeps hitting the ball hard his BABIP should be around 330 at the end of the year. It's SSS to be sure, but it's also fun to speculate on message boards. No matter how many times you state it's SSS theater someone will bring up the ol' BABIP . You were so gracious in your answer. I would be like umm he's hitting .457 why not just say that. Of course his BABIP is going to be off the charts as is his BA at the moment.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Are we really questioning putting in Nate Jones in to begin the 8th? That is the epitome of restrospective managing. You can't just use relievers who performed well in their last outing every time. Jones is a good reliever, he needs to get innings, and he has proven he can get hitters out more often than not. Swarzak has not. Yes I was. Swarzak had just completed a great inning looking very strong and sharp And it wasn't his last outing as you say but the inning before. Strong because he didn't pitch much if at all in the 1st 4 games. Jones had pitched the day before. One guy fresh and strong hitting his spots Made the Indians look bad thats how good he was. I know the whole schpiel on Jones is the 8th inning guy with a proven track record as such. During the off season I was in the minority wanting to keep Jones as the setup man instead of moving him to closer after Robertson is traded. I think he is great in that role and didn't want to move him from his comfort zones since he already has established plenty of value. So big Jones fan here. It's not some off the cuff remark. I gave it plenty of thought. The opinion is just based on how damn good Swarzak looked in the 7th and Jones pitching last night. And I didn't second guess the move because Jones came on and almost coughed up the lead. I just thought he deserves to at least come out for the 8th and if the 1st guy gets on take him out. He deserved to be out there again .I think managing is as much intuition and common sense as doing things by the book and sometimes, if you're feeling it, when to throw the book out the window Plus I recall Jones was on the WBC team and had a late spring with the Sox . There's plenty of 8th inning chances for Jones the rest of the year. I have watched many years of baseball and know my baseball. I just would 've done it differently. Play the hot hand . -

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Who is Swarzak and where did he come from? hite Sox I know questions like this are great for a message board but I know you have the internet with a search engine . So I did it instead https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/whit...ague-deals.html Something that link won't tell you is he is throwing harder now then in quite a while. I think he is hitting 95 on his fastball and it seems to have nice action on it. His command and control have been spot on in his 1st 2 appearances. -

I 'm glad Jones didn't completely melt down because I would've seriously second guessed the decision to take Swarzak out after he looked sharp. I already questioned not pinch running for Soto yesterday as soon as he got on late in the game. No sense worrying about being down to your last catcher at that point 2 questionable managerial calls this early in the season wouldn't be good and I am not even counting letting May hit at least one time he shouldn't have. -
Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians 4/12/2017

Swarzak looked very sharp. He's the long man and Jones pitched last night. Why stay in traditional roles when a guy looks sharp ? -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 06:47 AM) Step 1: purchase Amazon fire stick ($40) Step 2: install kodi app (free) Step 3: cancel Netflix and hulu (and any other video streaming service) Step 4: profit Thanks for the advice. Guess I will have to research things like maybe how to make apps work on my ancient android . But I like the idea of paying less but I suppose I need wi fi instead of wired service for my computer first.$60 a month from Charter Spectrum seems expensive for only wired service.

I spend my TV money on getting the DirecTV baseball and hockey packages, not HBO, so yea, no Game of Thrones for me either.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 06:04 AM) It bothers me greatly. I develop a rash whenever I read your posts...not because of the content, but because of the lack of punctuation. lol . If I had a dollar for every time I saw misuse of they're, their and there I'd be rich. It's so easy to understand the usage of each one but I constantly see them misused . Also " your" and "you're" and, this one is the worst ;" would of ", "could of " , and " should of " for would've , could've and should've .

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) MLB Trade Rumors @mlbtraderumors 16h16 hours ago Shohei Otani implies that international spending limits in the new CBA won't stop him from coming to the majors https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/04/latest-on-shohei-otani-3.html …://https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017...-otani-3.html ://https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017....-otani-3.html ://https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017....-otani-3.html Otani might just be available to the Sox and just about every other team next year. Perhaps the AL has the edge in getting him. If his agreement with the Ham Fighters management is that he can leave when he wants to, is posting him even necessary ? Wouldn't he just say sayonara to Japan and come as a free agent ? Sox could use him as a pitcher and / or OF'er . He wants to play both in the States and the teams that agree to that stipulation will have the best chance.

Some of you guys have terrible sarcasm or tongue in cheek detectors. That post was just poking fun at Levine and his non-information.

.318/.376/.555 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs. That's in the Cell so maybe it's just a magical place for him like Disneyland .

Was really pulling for AVi to get the cycle . Fell a double short very nice to see him get somethings besides singles. He is just too big and strong to be a single hitter.

Avi Garcia tendered a $3 million contract
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As one of Avi's biggest supporters I'm surprised I never posted in this thread but Ro Da Don basically said everything I would've said . It's hard for me to really understand how strongly negative the feelings are about him especially during a rebuild. Even his apologists are always somewhat apologetic about him because at time's he looks so bad. Other times he looks amazing like the first 4 games this year. One thing he always does is bust his ass down the first base line. I can't hate a guy who busts his hump like that. He deserves a little more respect for that alone, especially when guys loaf it pisses fans off just about more than anything . I could come up with reasons for his 2 errors so far but suffice it to say we've seen a lot of bad outfield defense so far due to weather conditions and not just on the Sox. Even I look at Avi with a jaundiced eye. I noticed that his 1st 3 or 4 hits were all ground balls .I was like what happened to him elevating balls ? Tools and strength do not always a player make but they help immensely when the on switch finally gets flipped. -

CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Rowand44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good game. There was some bad OF defense on both sides today but with the wind it was forgivable. Had no idea why Leury turned his back to the ball and faced the wall on the ball hit by Avila . Then the ball hits off the wall right next to him. I was like turn the f*** around and catch the ball. -
Mike Pelfrey Close to deal with Sox
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Called it yesterday in the Tank for Beer thread. "Sox might want to sign Peavy or Fister or Edwin Jackson or check into the remaining free agent starters. I think they need another guy to eat innings when Covey , Shields and Gonzalez all bomb. They will wreck their bullpen arms." I amaze me -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 05:12 AM) The line up might actually produce more runs later in the season with the young guys + Abreu if the Sox keep him around for Moncada's sake. Ideally the Sox could move Q, Shields and Gonzalez but then who the hell starts ? The Rodon situation doesn't feel right, like it's a precursor to a larger injury. Sox might want to sign Peavy or Fister or Edwin Jackson or check into the remaining free agent starters. I think they need another guy to eat innings when Covey , Shields and Gonzalez all bomb. They will wreck their bullpen arms. Called it . Pelfrey

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) I'm conflicted. I want to lose a bunch of games, but I also obviously want to see some vets do well to boost their trade value (e.g., Frazier, Robertson, Abreu) and see some young guys continue to get better. Hopefully the vets do well early, we can ship them out, and then really start the sucking.... POSTPONED: Opening Day Game Thread 2017

Might be the longest game thread of the year ...without a game. Isn't it ironic, don't ya think ? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) I think the only reason I'd use Burdi as a starter would be to get him innings, similar to Nate Jones. They can do that otherwise anyways, letting him throw 2 or 3 innings at a time. Anyone have any idea what the Sox might be thinking as far as innings for Burdi this year ? My guess is somewhere in the 50-60 innings range.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) If Hostetler really would have taken Collins 1-1, then he must really think he can catch. Time will tell. I think only circumstances would prevent him from sticking at catcher such as another catcher who develops in the same time frame as Collins . The Sox like him back there so far .He receives the ball softly doesn't stab at it. Throws well enough. Game calling very hard to tell at this juncture . Looked nimble back there. I'm on board with him sticking at catcher from what I have seen and heard/read.
