QUOTE(TLAK @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) So I dug out my RetroSheet database and queried the number of hit by pitch by year. Sorry dude...but I had to friggin laugh at that and bite my lip for not say.....GEEK! I'm just s***tin ya though! Here would be an interesting stat...how many batters has Roger Clemens plunked since he went to the NL and has to bat now...puss!
  2. Thanks man! Gotta say...I've seen alot of cool stuff in terms of sigs and things...there must be some pretty handy Photoshop people here. I'm just impressed because I pretty much do that stuff for a living. Nice job guys!
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) KW then suddenly discovers he has the money to keep Jon Garland and Mark Buehrle and AJ Pierzynski and Scott Podsednik because he has young talent filling the holes created when the more expensive free agents departed...that's when we'll know the benefit of standing pat this year. AJ better be given an extension ASAP! The guy's invaluable to this team!
  4. Well...after next Sunday...the Sox next 15 games are against the Yankees, Red Sox and Twinkies. Any predictions on how many games we take out of those 15? I'm sayin the Sox go 10-5 (9-6 at worst) in that stretch.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Long reliever. We'll hardly see Adkins pitch, I assume. Why were they using him as a starter when he got sent down in the spring? I'm not b****in or anything...just wondering what the Sox brass thinking was...just to get him more innings? I think Adkins could be pretty good...he just has a tendency to give up too many long balls if I recall.
  6. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) No way. I hate byrnes. He plays the game like an idiot and people confuse it as someone playing the game hard. He's lucky he didn't rip his chin off his face yesterday with that headfirst bellyflop.
  7. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) If anybody is Tivoing the game can they put the clip of Hawk going nuts on the site? I'd love to hear it too....
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) I don't mind a little chin music, by why put the tying run in scoring position and the go ahead run on first? I am not watching because I am at work, but if he intentionally threw at him his ejection is warranted. He will most likely be suspended as well. With the lack of off days coming up and quality of opponents, I don't think that it was the smartest move. I can't see how they'd suspend him...purely a subjective opinion that has no basis. The arguement being...why would I hit somebody and put the tying run on second...which is maybe what he was thinking anyway. I'd be shocked if he got suspended for that horses***.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) It goes to show that Mark Buehrle is a great teammate, streak be damned. Mark cared more about standing up for AJ and Tadahito vs his own personal accomplishments. The team obviously comes first to him, and I respect him for that. AMEN...f*** the personal accolades. streaks, etc...you gotta stand up for your teammates. Personally...I'd have drilled Sosa though. I think if it would've been anybody else but Sosa up there...MB woulda drilled 'em.
  10. Everybody might piss and moan about it....but hell...why not. What would it take? You've got guys like: PK: $8.75M Contreras: $8.5M ARow: $2M Frank: $8M (not trading...but a wash because with Manny, Franks not back next year) I'd give up BMac....but no way Anderson or Sweeney go anywhere. It'd almost make sense to include ARow in the deal somehow and move Pods to center. The Sox have some ammunition to pull some deals...but personally...I'd take Manny in a heartbeat. That is unless the Sox are sitting back hoping to resign CLee this offseason (should be in green...but I'm lazy). Bottom line...the Sox desparately need some pop in the lineup. ok...blast away.
  11. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) I agree. Konerko was a good compliment when surrounded by other better hitters. Now that he is counted on to be "the man" he just isn't cutting it. Because of this his trade value is dubious. A team that needs offense would not be wise to get him, and a team that already has some probably would not be interested. He just about had me banging my head against the wall last nite. That's exactly what PK is...a decent man when you have guys in the lineup like Frank, Mags, CLee....but to be counted on as "the man"....nope.
  12. How the f*** was that pitch not a strike?!?
  13. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) 1st pitch breaking ball down the middle to PK. How many times have we seen that this year?? Shocker!!! He should go to the plate with 1 strike. EVERY f***in first pitch is piped for him and he watches it!!! And again...he gets a gift...and does nothing with it.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) Agree, the failure in the 3rd inning was bad. He made some good pitches but both Everett and Konerko weren't ready for those 1st pitch cookies. Attack when a strike is thrown. All year long...PK takes WAAAAAAAAAY too many meatballs right over the plate for first pitch strikes. Goddamn I hate that!
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) What are you talking about? We have no one to blame but ourselves for the base running blounders. It's not like the Red Sox are doing pitch-outs. What I'm talkin about is...didn't you notice Varitek on Gooch and Timo's last K....the dude's standing up for God's sake....that's what I'm talkin about. They knew the Sox were running.
  16. Is it just me...or do the Red Sox seem to be stealing signals and know when the Sox are running?
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) I had the same experience. Generally we know all the people that sit around us in our seasons, but someone knew was in the ones behind us. The guy was trying to educate his girlfriend on baseball and knew nothing about it. Here are his "insights" 1. Oakland will fail to field a baseball team next year 2. Cleveland has been dominating the central for the last 5 years. 3. They build new comiskey on top of old comiskey That is funny as s***!!! You get alot of putzs out at Diamondback games too. The top 2 most idiotic fans have to be Diamondback fans and Suns fans...mostly fair-weather fans who don't know jack s***. I actually heard a guy last year at BOB say that the Sox hadn't had a decent 3rd baseman since Ron Santo! I just turned around and looked at him and shook my head.....
  18. QUOTE(PutItOnTheBoard @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) the guys on the detroit broadcast just implied that we may have been stealing signs....saying that they've never seen him get hit that hard so something must have been up Sounds like something Uecker'd say during "Major League".
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) I'm getting so sick of Uribe and his lack of offensive production. He's trying to pull every single pitch. He's so much better when he drives the ball to RF. "Paging Greg Walker...Greg Walker, please pick up the white courtesy phone...Greg Walker..." Hey...that's all he's done all friggin year.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) You should really look into a new avatar? I wondered when somebody was gonna give me s*** about that! That was from ST last year...thought it was funny as s***....but you are right!
  21. I think there is some truth to what Dusty is sayin though. Ozzie's just expected to make inane statements...people expect it...that's OZ. This past week when AJ won the game with a dinger...in the post game conference OZ was talking about AJ before the AB and said, "AJ was whining like a little baby...." about something, I can't remember exactly what Ozzie was referring to. Now if Dusty woulda said that about one of his players...s*** would probably hit the fan. I think basically Blusty Baker has Ozzie Envy!
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Yes, but the offense looks bad so far. I'm sorry...but my platoon system entails Dye and Everett....NOT Carl and Frank!!! That's bulls*** IMO!
  23. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) That Pods ball was fair. It was clearly even bouncing down the line in fair territory. Rooney and Farmer pointed it out. Geez Us...that's what I thought...and worthless-ass ESPN didn't even show a replay. How the hell can it go down the line past third in fair territory and be foul?
